    Catcher prospects had pretty much been a baren wasteland for this team for many years. With many members of this board encouraging them to draft a catcher high for many years now. So I think we all are a bit happier now to have more prospect balance in the system (let's work on hard throwing relievers next). I mean it's not like they didn't try at all. Their strategy seemed to be to take catchers late and or catchers with good offensive skills hoping to help them get there defensively. They chose a ton of catchers in international free agency but none of those turned out. So they didn't completely ignore it, but didn't prioritize it either. I do think part of the reason the Twins hadn't focused on catcher is that most teams don't have a good one at least offensively so not losing that much value at the big league level. They seemed fine paying for catching help in free agency to get what they needed. Also the Twins had so many other needs especially for other up the middle prospects I can see why they waited on the catcher position. It's tough to invest in catching as there are so many things that go wrong in development. As this article shows Morneau never became a catcher he ended up a 1st baseman. That might end up happening to some of the catchers currently in the system. I'm just glad the Twins kind of woke up and started giving it more attention. We've seen how valuable Jeffers is to this team even with just average defense. Good catchers are getting more expensive. Developing them makes sense. Happy to see the twins in good shape now.

    I see his numbers finally dropped in July. down to a .700 something OPS for the month. Likely tiring out at the end here. Oh well he's had a nice season and is someone to keep an eye on.

    Not sure where to post this, but can someone change the bonus amount in on the draft page to the correct amount for pick number 6 Ethan Lay. If you look at mlb.com he only got $75,000 and they didn't go over their bonus amount.

    I wonder when they will promote Fragosa to Cedar Rapids. He still has a .300 BA and .900 OPS at Fort Meyers as a 19 year old. Would be nice to have them get his feet wet at high A. His numbers have been Walker Jenkins like except for K rate\walk rate. He isn't walking much. Still not any different from Tait and he is already at high A.

    Their GM had already stated they weren't going to move any top prospects for this years run. I'd look for them to do slightly more than the Twins or Cleveland, but I think they are more likely to have an active offseason than deadline. Prices are high at the deadline and they are at the beginning of their rebuild. That being said they are in first place and will likely do something to stay there. Maybe a lower end starter and bullpen help like the Twins I'd think.

    Every time I doubt this team they seem to come back. Every time I start to believe they go on a losing streak. Personally I haven't seen enough to buy. Maybe enough to stand pat, but that's about it for me. I wouldn't be opposed to selling if the deals look good. However, with Ryan's arm in doubt they might not get the kind of deal they need to make it worth it. I'm fine with a comp pick for him if we have a couple of chances for the playoffs, but if I were running things I'd be getting what I can in future assets and be playing for 2028.

    I generally trust Law more than most as he seems to be right more often than not. Rodriguez does have a long list of production all the way up. He must feel it is going to translate to have him that high. On the other hand Fangraphs is pretty solid as well. Like Law their writeups are generally more in depth and nuanced and a lot of flaws they see turn out to be real especially on the pitching side. I don't feel like their track record with hitters is as good though. Seen plenty of Whiffs there. Personally I think the reason he is not in their top 100 is the injuries. He never plays a full season. It's hard to truly evaluate that.

    For the reasons Law mentioned I have Lackey as the Twins number one prospect. Still Jenkins is the same age as Lackey and at AAA so has pretty much proven his potential is for real. Lackey hasn't taken a pro at bat yet. Still looking at the upside Law mentioned and since prospect lists are based on potential I'd have Lackey number one. Doesn't matter much though as they are both great prospects.

    Hey if Tom wants to put his money where mouth is here's a great way to do it. The more Salary the Twins take on the less prospect capital there would be. Do a reverse Correa here? He looks pretty cooked to me. I'd stay away since he could have two years left after this one if he pitches enough innings. I'd rather use that money elsewhere. Let someone else do the M;s a favor. The M's have been looking for someone to take on the contract since last year.

    I don't know how much Beauargard has helped the hitters this year, but this offense is the best I have seen in a long time. Still Pop was supposed to be a savant last year and this years Blue Jays team doesn't look as good to me. From third in OPS 2025 to 29th in 2026. You'd think if they have that type of outsized influence it would be more static than that. IMO always comes down to the the players, coach can help some but players have to perform not the coach.

    I've got a little bit of a thing about the Yankee's. I just don't like the idea of them pushing off players they don't like or want on the team to get a really great player in Jeffers. They always beat us so I just don't like the idea of this trade as IMO it makes us look weak taking on their trash. I could be completely irrational on this one, but it strikes me a bit like the Outman trade did.

    I'm not comparing directly. Both are challenged hitters those guys aren't hard to find. The Twins already tried reclamation player Gray and Kreidler do we really need another one? If Volpe is the get I'd rather keep Jeffers. Just my opinion.

    I would just say remember the Outman experience. We were supposed to be able to fix him too. It never happened.

    This is likely our main trade asset and we want to use it on two reclamation projects? Do that stuff in the offseason.

    If Keith Beauargard is that good then why can't he get Kreidler or Lee to be just as good or better than Volpe?

    Yet his OPS is higher than Volpe's and he plays multiple positions. The Yankee's are ready to install their number one prospect at short and we are getting ready to install our third best prospect there. Even as a throw in he takes up a 40 man spot. Get arms. We need arms.

    I don't want the Yankee's junk for Jeffers. Yankee's fan laugh at the Twins enough as it is. Expecting us to take on the players they no longer want or need is insulting IMO. Shortstop is not a need. A marginal bullpen arm doesn't excite me. If Zoll does something like this I will be on every board asking for him to be fired. We need pitching I'd say get Elmer and call it a day. He's a top 100 prospect with years of control as a starter. That's what the Twins need.

    Have to get the right value back to make it worth it, but yeah I'm for trading Larnach and Jeffers. I might be the only one but am a little stuck on Wallner. If they were to trade Larnach they could have some room for Wallner to build his trade value back. He was a near .900 OPS bat in 23 and 24 even 2025 as bad as that year was he has a .776 OPS. You generally don't throw away .800 OPS bats. He gets to those numbers in a tough way via K and Home runs so can be a rally killing bat at times. Still there is value there. I get moving on with Jenkins and Rodriguez in the wings along with Roden. Still Wallner does have that Rooker potential to make you regret giving up on him. If someone gave the right return I could see it otherwise I'd just hang onto him. He could DH next year and play the outfield if needed. it's nice to have a guy that can win the game with one swing at the end of a game.

    The whole team has been in a bit of a hitting funk since the break. Kreidler's numbers are just more impacted because of the small sample size. I can't say I haven't been concerned about his hitting recently, but he does hit the ball hard just generally right at people. Buxton has been O-fer whatever since he came back. Lee has had long streaks of O-fers as well as other players. I think there has been some improvement at the plate and he plays outstanding defense at short. I haven't seen a Twins shortstop make the plays he has in a long time. I'll be waiting to see what his numbers look like at the end of the season before being too judgey.

    That is one way to get back down to two catchers. Not sure Caratini would have the same steam Jeffers does so not sure they'd do that deal. Also not sure if the Twins wouldn't trade both catchers if the prices were right. If they could get close to ready starting pitching from each of them that would go a long way toward building the pitching depth they need for next year and beyond. They'd still have Jackson left and would have to find a more straight up defensive catcher, but with Lackey on the way they could make that work for the right price. Still I think the solid play is to just move Jeffers. I don't know how Tampa feels about Bodine but he is hitting nearly .900 OPS at AA. If they think he will be ready by next year then one year of Jeffers bridges that gap for them and his big righty bat would really help them in the playoffs. I'd think its Jeffers or bust for them.

    Yeah per usual this team hangs onto mediocrity harder than a wood tick embedded in your arm. If they are around .500 he'll have to do something. Pretty hard to completely back down from those statements. I don't know what Gausman would cost but I like that move the most. This team has exceeded my expectations and the pen has held their own in July. Maybe I shouldn't be a doubting Darren, but that August schedule has me feeling that things are about to crash. We'll see how things play out but the closer they are to .500 the less likely this team is just a buyer or seller, but likely both.

    Hopkins would be the better get than Forret, but I'm assuming Tampa might want to use him this year or next in their rotation. Seems a little too much to give in a Jeffers or Larnach trade, but perhaps the Twins could add something to get there. Hard to say. Hopkins has some great stuff just sounds like control is an issue.

    He's also a right handed bat which the market is low on. I'd say he is doubly valuable. Tough to pay a ton for a rental but he fills a lot of needs. I'd think if you are ever gonna overpay big time for a rental he would be it.

    I've been looking for teams with pitching to trade with and I don't think there is a better system than Tampa's if you are looking for arms. I don't know if there is way to pry Michael Forret from them but that would be my target. He's at AAA could maybe be used in the Majors this year. Plenty of other power relievery arms in their system as well. I really hope the Rays like our guys as I feel like they have what we need most. Only other system would maybe be Atlanta. Not sure if they match up as well for Larnach and Jeffers though. Only arm I really like from the Yankee's is Elmer Rodriguez but he is a top 100 guy so pretty steep to get for just Jeffers or Larnach. Maybe the Twins could add something to get there? At any rate I agree with the OP. Tampa makes the most sense as a trade partner as they need what we have. It will come down to cost for them as they don't like to spend on rentals and like the Twins I don't think they can sign Jeffers in the offseason. Here's my pitch to Tampa. If you don't want the Yankee's to grab the best hitting catcher on the market with an elite .900 OPS even if you over pay for him you are keeping him out of the Yankee's hands and adding him to your team. That could be a pretty large difference as those teams battle for first place. Keeping the Yankee's devoid of good bats should be part of their strategy IMO. If I were them I'd over pay, but they are looking to add a big arm and that might deplete things too much for what the Twins would want back. We'll see what happens but that would be my pitch. And for the record I'd rather Tampa get him than the Yankee's.
