  1. Yeah looking at the replay I couldn't see the line clearly either. Almost impossible to call it when it is that close and the line that hard to see. At any rate it appears to me looking at the video that umps made the right call. Honestly I don't know how they can keep track of everything they have to do behind the plate.
  2. Yeah he really made himself out to be an idiot there. At least he acknowledged he made a mistake and apologized. I agree he should not have come after the umps like that but he paid the price of looking like a crazy man for all to see. Long game lots of ups and downs emotions get out of control. Both teams really wanted that game and only one team could win. I get it but there were lots of bad calls that could have determined that game so to get that upset over just one of them seems odd or maybe it was the straw that broke the camels back. Whatever the case he made himself look the fool for nothing.
  3. I totally agree with that assessment. I just wanted to him hit the ball. Didn't even care if was an out just show me you can hit the darn ball. He could not do it. That is one of the poorer batting performances I have ever seen. Probably a good time to sit him. I don't know what it is but he does seem to get his fair share of tough calls each at bat. I thought he was maybe getting better a few weeks back as he was taking more pitches and having longer at bats. Recently though it feels like he is back to swinging at everything which is fine if he could actually hit the ball. Part of working the count is getting a good pitch to hit. Use a little reverse psychology on the pitcher and don't swing at anything one or two at bats and then just when they think you won't swing start swinging. I don't know but doing something different has to be better than getting the same result every time.
  4. Kepler with Eddie Rosario numbers except with much better plate discipline. 18 HR, OPS .900, BA around .280. Those are very nice numbers. Have to say I was still worried about Max early this year but he is making a believer out of me.
  5. Always felt Littell had good movement on his pitches. With all that movement I was a bit surprised how hittable he was as a starter. Here's hoping that he finds the mix he needs to be a very good reliever. We need someone to step up and soon.
  6. So is the hold up on Spencer Steer and Matt Walner because Julien is in the college world series so they don't know what number they would need to sign him as it would obviously take an above slot number to do so? Otherwise I don't understand the hold up in signing Wallner. I presume it will be a below slot deal as he was picked earlier than most draft experts had him going by at least 10 spots. Steer also should be below slot as no one had him in their top 200 if I remember correctly. So I guess they look at what it might take to sign guys further down the line and then figure out how much they can squeeze out of other picks? Not sure how this works but it is the only thing I can think of.
  7. I agree with the OP some of those guys have to go because we can't keep them all. Position players rarely get taken but Diaz and Blanky and Raley might be tempting for teams that have nothing to lose. Raley is pretty much MLB ready with a decent eye, good power, and position flexibility. Pretty much all the pitchers will be in jeopardy if not added as they all could probably be used in the bullpen. Hopefully we can find someone who likes a few of these guys so that we don't have to worry about protecting so many players come rule V.
  8. It was refreshing to see another teams bulllpen implode. Seattle used three guys in the 6th and none of them were very successful. Their relievers really had trouble finding the strike zone. We still have our own issues though. We don't really seem to have a shut down reliever at all. Maybe Rogers but he struggles at times as well. At any rate it was nice to see us put a bunch of runs on the board.
  9. The one thing I like about this lineup is any player in the lineup can step up and get an extra base hit or a home run 1-9. You don't look at the 7th, or 8th inning and hope for the top of the lineup to come up in the 9th to have a chance to win. That is a real nice feeling to have.
  10. Nice piece of writing. Really enjoyed the article. Thank you!!
  11. The way Perez pitches I was shocked that with two strikes he grooved a pitch down the middle to Edwin. I guess they were hoping Edwin would be shocked as well and not swing? Perez tip toed around the zone all night why with their best power hitter up does he decide to go down the middle? Baffling at least to me. I mean if he gets the homer on a tough low outside or inside pitch so be it but to put it on platter for him seems odd especially from a pitcher reluctant to throw strikes. At times it felt like the offense was little too aggressive but a tip of the hat to Leeke as he was willing to pump in first pitch strikes and keep attacking. I was impressed at how he held the Twins offense down fro the most part. Sano still looks pretty ugly at the plate. I know his OPS is still very good but if he can clean up some things he can be much better. I know you shouldn't mess with a good thing but it feels like Buxton is ready for the top of the order especially since Kepler hasn't been outstanding in that role so far this year. Also their OBP and OPS are not that different this year. Hate to see a called third strike on such a borderline pitch but it felt like we took a lot of bad calls in that game as well. I still think robo umps would be better.
  12. Max single handedly won that game for us. Where is the rest of the offense?. Big win now let's get the bats going against Detroit and keep things rolling.
  13. That is a good question. One we all would like to know the answer to.
  14. Yeah I agree I don't think they will get those guys to sign much under slot and some may need to go higher. We'll see how that all shakes out.
  15. I believe all the 4year jr's can go back. I think 4 year just stands for college not how many years attended. If you look at the board you notice there are no 3 year juniors and there should be some if that is how they are marking it. There are some 4 yr sophomore's and some 5 yr seniors but that is just letting us know that they are younger or older.
  16. Correct me if I am wrong but I only see that they have grabbed one college senior so far. The juniors drafted early could go back to school and try luck next year.
  17. Seems like he has a decent chance to be a reliever. Nice article on him here.
  18. I liked that pick where they got him as well. It sounded like he was going to need hit tool work even if he had his expected season and was taken in the lower 1st round. It also looked like he was more power over hit so if he can improve his hit tool he would be a major steal but I still think the odds are long that he hits well enough to make it. I am guessing that is why he lasted that long in the first place.
  19. Sure it can if you want to view it that way. I was simply responding to the poster who said who cares if a player has a good swing? It can simply be taught. Yet it is not that simple. Having that skill going in typically translates well to MLB success that is why those players are chosen first in the draft. it doesn't mean they will be successful just that they have a better chance. To the posters point some players do learn and develop that skill but I feel the odds are much steeper for that happening than he does. For the most part I am very happy with what the FO has done. I have been wrong about several picks they have made and I am pleased with the quality of hitters they found deep in the draft. Now if they could do the same with pitchers I will be even more happy. Don't get me wrong as I believe in development but you take on risk when you pick players that can just run fast or throw hard or have good power. They can have those abilities but if they can't hit they are a wasted pick because they will never make it. The upside is huge though because if you can develop their hit tool then you might have an All Star caliber player. IMO you need to balance yourself between the two. At least at the beginning of this draft I felt they were ignoring hit tools which is something they hadn't done in previous drafts. Granted it is hard for me to know much as I am not a scout and only have second hand information to guide me. MLB.com had Jeffers with 40 or 45 hit tool and they are way off. He easily has a 50 hit tool and with development could maybe even get to a 55. I think the FO has I plan I just don't always get it.
  20. A good swing is basically all that matters. You can have all the athleticism in the world and if you can't hit the ball you are a black hole on offense. You don't need a ton of athleticism to play 1st, 3rd, Left field, DH and maybe even 2nd Base. You can hide that if you find guys that hit. Arraez is a good example. He has no above average tools except his bat and yet he is more valuable than say a Pedro Floriman type player who has good speed, good arm, good defense but a horrible bat. Arraez can still play decent defense and can help the offense. While I agree you can't teach speed and arm strength teaching someone how to hit is no easy task either. Ask Bechtold, Pearson and Celestino. Lot's of players never learn to do it well enough to make it. Even guys with excellent approaches have trouble I'm thinking Lamonte Wade. I just think that guys with better hit tools have a greater chance to make it because offense is so important. Defense can only take you so far. If you can't hit you can't move up. If you can't move up you can't make it. Hit tool is the most important thing then defense\athleticism.
  21. Not much in the way of senior signs so assume not much money for high school players then? Glad they grabbed a couple light hitters but good hit\onbase guys. That makes me feel a little better.
  22. OMG they took a pitcher. This shaping up to be a developmental draft. They must trust that they can coach these guys up and make them better. I could give them high marks for drafting athleticism but that is about it.
  23. Grabbing too many guys with potential hit tool problems. To me that doesn't bode well as those guys typically can't do well enough to make it to MLB. I liked the past two drafts better when they went for players with good hit tools and more average to slightly above average measurables. If you can't hit the best you can be is a utlity player. Not getting a good vibe from this draft so far. Too much risk for me.
  24. Sure would be nice to know what the Twins see in some of these picks. So far it looks more like they are looking for good defenders and not as worried about hit tools. Sure hope they are getting things right in their evals.
  25. I give up, man. The guy is not even in the top 200. Not sure why he had to be picked there. Well I am usually wrong about these picks so will just hope it is a good pick.
