  1. "as for dismissing Hicks 35 good games (compared to how many awful games) and Plouffe's hot vs cold streaks, I don't know, one of them has actually been good over a whole season, and one has only been good for 35 games out of his career (give or take). I'd think it is reasonable to say one of these is not like the other yet." - I was thinking the same thing Mike. Plouffe is streaky but for three seasons his body of work has been pretty similar, season to season. With Plouffe, you can pretty much bank on a .750 OPS for a decent to good fielding and durable 3b. Can't bank on Hicks yet, but I hope the Twins give him another shot out of ST.
  2. Median is the central number in a sequence, mode is the most recurring, and mean is the sum of the values divided by number of values. I would agree that velocity for a starter isn't the only measure, nor is it the best, but if is important. Tough to be a top line starter without that minimum 94+
  3. " WARNE: ALLEN vs ANDERSON It’s only the perception of the writer, but it appears that Twins fans have been far more supportive of current pitching coach Neil Allen than his deposed predecessor, Rick Anderson. Whether it’s on Facebook, Twitter or even in sports bars, it seems as though fans have really bought into Allen, despite the fact that stats show a pretty interesting story. Here are the numbers for the 2014 rotation: 5.06 ERA/4.03 FIP 6.4 K/9 2.4 BB/9 1.0 HR/9 And now, 2015: 4.23 ERA/4.19 FIP 6.2 K/9 2.4 BB/9 1.1 HR/9 Even if you don’t want to buy FIP’s argument that this rotation is actually worse, it’s not as though you could pick out one or the other out of a crowd of numbers. And I’m not saying you have to believe this year is as bad as last year, but it’s pretty close. It’s just a simple exercise to see if perception mirrors reality. In this case, not really." Quality of Pitching coach? or Quality of Pitching talent?
  4. I live in 'Merica where not wearing pants is typically frowned upon for everyone outside of their homes.
  5. you should try Zubaz, soft, comfy, and airy, almost like not wearing pants, but way more socially acceptable than tighty whiteys
  6. Who's Brad Boyer? I have no problem stashing JR Graham in the bullpen if the bullpen is much, much better. But it's not...
  7. If the team was in third place in the division all season, made a big late push in August and September fueled by the youngsters, but came up a bit short. Yes it would be a successful season. On the other hand, being firmly in second place and the third best team in the AL for half the season, then fading quicklb while missing the post season, would not be. There's still time to make a big push in August and September, but looks unlikely given the state of pitching.
  8. What? You can't pinch hit for a catcher in the 9th! What if the backup gets injured?
  9. Doc Holiday was from Georgia, Wyatt Earp from Illinois. Clyde Barrow was a heck of a criminal and gunslinger, but he fired a lot more than 6 bullets in a magazine
  10. I would've liked a little more swagger from Sano, but getting your booty handed to you in such convincing fashion will do that. after all, it is a game
  11. If you want to pimp your homer, go ahead and do so... I applaud you for it. but do so at your own risk. I'd love to see a pitcher plunk a bluejay in the back and then run around the infield with his "wings stretched"
  12. To continue: Shields would be the second best starter on this team, but for how long? Lots of Hughes Santana, Nolasco could all be dead weight in 2017 or 2018, adding a similar situation with Shields
  13. You sign a guy like James Shields to get the performance at the front of the contract and hope the performance at the back of the contract isn't too painful. Trading for James Shields means you give up assets for a smaller window until you hope he isn't a disaster. He might still be an asset this year and next, but I think the Twins would be better served looking for a Catcher or SS that has a longer horizon and a pile of relievers. C and SA are probably more expensive, but definitely worth it.
  14. please let it not be occuponymous... as i like their beer
  15. occuponymous people... like Mr Taylor made pants, or Mr Smith made horseshoes, so Mr Shoemaker throws baseballs?
  16. does someone who gets married, divorced, and married again in the same year only count once?
  17. Aria might have more value to another team who might actually play him in the big leagues. He'd be good in a RF/DH rotation or Rf platoon situation.
  18. the Twins traded away a 4th outfielder they signed earlier in the year away from the A's to get Milone. Why would the Twins get more than a Sam Fuld type back in return for Milone? The Twins already have three Sam Fuld type catchers in Suzuki, Fryer, and Hermann.
  19. Susac for Arcia and Meyer would be awesome. I would think it would take more. Every team knows catchers are valuable commodities to hold on to, even as backups.
