  1. i learned more about the Twins from the TD plug than from Doogie
  2. the team had the second worst ERA in baseball. Still awful. Agreed with the intent
  3. is utility good enough? Why do you care how much the GM spends?
  4. im less convinced, there's the most potential with this list than the others. The pitching staff looks like org filler just waiting to be replaced by prospects. The problem is there aren't any prospects in the pipeline. If trading vets isn't happening, are you really ok with so much filler taking up half the roster? I agree that it's not a rebuild without prospects on the horizon. it's just bad. And patience with bad becomes apathy and complacency. Gotta sign at least one or two relievers who are a step up from Kintzler and Boshers.
  5. cuz Kintzler, Hughes, Santiago and Perkins are so bankable to build a pitching staff around?
  6. I think Santiago starts the season in the rotation, but there's a chance he goes to the bullpen or gets traded/or cut. I'm pretty sure Duffey goes to the bullpen to start the season. I'm 50/50 on Gibson going to the BP at some point this season and maybe a 25% chance he starts the season there.
  7. theres truth here. Not every (most) decision is made based on merit, however merit or injury is how Berrios gets starts over Santiago or Duffey. I think 2017 should be focused on developing pitchers at the highest level. I dont think it will, necessarily
  8. if May and Berrios can't win a spot in that rotation, they don't deserve it
  9. they already had Hughes for two more seasons, so it wasn't an immediate need to "replace him". Conversely Suzuki was not under contract. True, it's second guessing, but there was tons of second guessing that move when it happened that winter. The gamble would have been to not extend Hughes and be ok if he walks or is more expensive to extend later
  10. i also wonder what the realistic alternatives were. Unlike Hughes, Suzuki's first deal was one year. Sure, he sucked but it's not like there were in house alternatives. Now outside the org, pretty much every MLB contract for FA catchers in 2015 was a one year deal for a better catcher than Zukes.
  11. agreed the contract extension was a bit misguided. Disagree that Phil hughes' success doesn't move the needle. While I think the likelihood of success is slim a 2014 caliber performance definitely moves the needle and a 2015 caliber performance at least wiggles it a bit. This team needs pitching and it seems like free agency and trades isn't getting it done, so let's try science. We can (maybe) rebuild him. We have (sort of) the technology! Nananana
  12. At the touch em all pub crawl you recorded a podcast at the Barrio in lowertown, not sure if it was published Btw every event I have attended (4 or 5) has been great!
  13. Thanks Seth for sharing Tanner's account. Please pass on well wishes. I hope Tanner has a great 2017 season in either (I assume) Chattanooga or Rochester.
  14. I would take JDL plus a couple non-prospect low A/high A talent in exchange for Dozier if that's the best offer. Here's what I know 1) Twins need pitching 2) Free Agent market is terrible 3) 2017 will be the 7th consecutive terrible season in a row, with or without Dozier 4) With or without Dozier this team will hit home runs and score runs at league average or better. It only makes sense to trade him. I'm not mad at the FO for trying to drive up the market, just frustrated with the situation.
  15. having an $80 mil closer over the last 6 years would have resulting 2-3 more wins per season. Dodgers, Yankees, Royals and Indians have all been at least competitive if not favorites for World Series Champs and should take those expensive incremental steps. 2017 Twins on the other hand should be grooming a closer for 2018 and if they aren't convinced they have one in house, begin looking for one after the 2017.
  16. Great subject Jeremy. Puig seems to be on the outs, I wonder if some salary relief could be a part of the trade, possibly w/ a third team
  17. no such thing. This market behaves independently. Every player is unique in value and once a player is drafted, there is no longer an exchange.
  18. kind of. As RB stated it, we're predicting markets. One has to assume rational decision making, we just need to put parameters around the rationale. Money may not be the currency and the payout may not be a tidy nest egg directly. It's still a market, and we're still attempting to predict economy.
  19. the Twins haven't operated like this i the past, but seems like normal hot stove stuff to me.
  20. haha. I work in inventory liquidity (supply and demand management) for a multinational manufacturing company. In this case we're trading contracts like securities instead of cash for goods like some of these market making discussions tend to be centered around.
  21. You are missing credit and time value of currency part of the discussion. Buying Dozier with De Leon is like buying a 2 year bonx with a 6 year AR MBS. The closer to maturity the less valuable the 2 year security becomes because your investment has less chance to grow. Meanwhile the risk decreases on the 6 year high risk AR MBS as time advances you are less likely for the debtors to default. The more Mature De Leon gets the more clear what his value becomes and lower risk = more value. More mature Dozier gets the less value he has, because in two years you don't have to give up any assets to acquire him.
