  1. So, basically 30-40 million per year. That is doable. Especially after losing the contracts of Morneau, Blackburn, Pelfrey, and Jamey Carroll. Not even counting the new TV contract kicking in. The Twins can afford this and I just see TR setting up the whole cliche statement of "We pursued some major FA pitchers but we just couldn't land them. So, we have some great in-house options"....the Twins way....
  2. I want to ask you all a question. Is it realistic to expect the Twins to sign these three: Arroyo Kazmir Nolasco If so, how much per year would it cost them? 30-40 million? Which is NOT that much in combination with their current payroll. They CAN and SHOULD afford that! Right?
  3. I'm fine getting Nolasco. That just better not be the ONLY move. If they get Nolasco AND Arroyo. That's good enough but I still wouldn't be happy. I think they should get at least Arroyo and Nolasco. Then, make a strong push for Kazmir as the ideal candidate. If Kazmir's price tag is too high, then go and get Johan to come back on a 1 year deal.
  4. Actually, I revise my prior list. I say we get at least Johan, Arroyo and Kazmir. If possible, add another flyer guy like Josh Johnson, Hammel, Feldman, or Bruce Chen.
  5. Brad - your writing cracks me up. I'm assuming you are referencing Heideman in your fantasy statement. There seems to be a lot of 'decent/cheap/better than what we currently have' type pitchers available on the market this year. And, really, we only have Correia and maybe Gibson as for sure starters next year. So, personally, I think you go and get at least three, maybe four starters and hope they do well enough to flip them at the trade deadline. Arroyo, Josh Johnson, Johan, and Hammel would be my preference. In all, that would probably cost the team 30 millionish. Then you have backup options in Deduno, Albers, Diamond, Hermson, May, Worley, Meyer, etc.
  6. Well, now we no longer need to worry about finding a FA first baseman AND, we get to see Pinto all the time!
  7. Seth - I'm blown away that you think Buxton will be up with the Twins by July. I totally did not expect that. That makes me super excited. I thought that he wouldn't be with the team until September at the earliest. Wow. So, we may eventually have a second base problem to deal with. We have Dozier, Polanco, and Rosario. Obviously, all three are solid but Dozier is the only KNOWN commodity. Do we try and flip Dozier for a starting pitcher this offseason? I hate to do it but I worry he will only regress from here and we need to strike a trade while we can knowing we have reinforcements on the horizon at second base.
  8. I would be all for us giving a Pelfrey contract to Josh Johnson, Johan Santana and Tim Hudson. All risky but mine as well
  9. Plus we have Kuo Hu Lo and Fernando Romero...not a bad problem to have I guess
  10. I read this blog daily and barely know about Fernando Romero. I realize he is in the GCL but I know Thorpe, Rosario, Jorge, Landa but this Romero kid...I have never heard anything about him really. Is there a prediction on which pitchers will start where next season? It seems like we have a plethora of starting pitchers but not enough spots to start them. I imagine the following: Rochester: Logan Darnell Alex Meyer Trevor May Pat Dean Tom Stuifbergen New Britain: Taylor Rogers DJ Baxendale Matt Summers Alex Wimmers Tyler Duffey Fort Myers: Jose Berrios Ryan Eades Mason Melotakis Tim Atherton Tim Shibuya Hudson Boyd Jason Wheeler Cedar Rapids (This is where it gets tough...): Kohl Stewart Yorman Landa Lewis Thorpe Miguel Sulbaran Randy Rosario Felix Jorge Stephen Gonsalves Aaron Slegers What say you Seth?
  11. So, the Royals play the Twins April 18th-20th (Friday-Saturday) next year. It is the only weekend game they play in KC. I would be happy to help coordinate a road Twins fan gathering in KC at one of the local breweries or bars. Obviously, that's a ways out but with the 2014 schedule just coming out today, I just thought I'd put the potential dates on here
  12. Gleeman, Bonnes and other Twins bloggers: I was listening to Gleeman and the Geek today and I noticed you guys were trying to get local breweries to host your shows. I was hoping to plant a seed for next year's Twins season. I live in Kansas City and would see if you guys would be open to start road shows during KC road trips. Basically, I could help coordinate with local breweries (Boulevard, Bier Station, Beer Kitchen) to host a Gleeman and the Geek show and also a Twins fan gathering before the Saturday game. Thoughts? If interested, maybe it could be replicated for other road games like Milwaukee, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit etc. Anyways, you guys can talk it over and just let me know
  13. I think this is a good list. nice job. However, there are some I'm a little higher on than most probably. I like Aderlin Meijia a lot. Also, I think Darnell shouldn't be on this list but that's just me. I like him but he's more of a Duensing clone to me rather than a realistic long-term starter option. Now, I do think Taylor Rogers should be on this list. The way he pitched this year, that's a notable omission. Some of this year's draft picks may move into the top 20 by next year (Slegers, Stuart Turner, Navaretto, Lewin Diaz, Garver, Verkerk). I don't think Minier is deserving yet of a top 20 status...maybe a couple more years.
  14. I would love to have us SOMEHOW get the number 2 pick and just take the next best guy after Rodon. Then, it's a lot easier/more fun to discuss this
  15. So, based on today, it looks like realistically the best position the Twins can end with is 3rd pick in the draft behind Marlins and Astros. So, what would you think they'll do? Let's assume Rodon is the #1 overall pick, that leaves the Twins with options of either the 2nd best college arm, best high school arm, or best SS prospect in college or HS. What do they do? I would lean pitching because of our depleted cupboard but if there is another Buxton, you gotta go for him. If there is another Buxton, who is it?
  16. It seems like Madison Boer is consistently getting rocked every time I look at these reports. Is this guy just over his head? Also, I have been impressed with the turnaround of Tyler Grimes. He seems to be 'getting it' finally. Every game seems to be two more hits. I'll miss these reports when the season is over...
  17. Holy crap! He is no. 14 on their top 20 prospects! 2013 Prospect Watch | MLB.com: News
  18. Based on his stats, that looks like a decent get for the Twins. A lefty pitcher, me like!
  19. They should bid a ton for him. Could you imagine an offense of Mauer, Rosario and Buxton (table setting) and then Sano, Abreu and Arcia to drive them in? Good lord! Then just throw in a VERY capable Dozier along with a hopeful Hicks, and any of Pinto/Walker/Kepler/Plouffe. That is a scary offense.
  20. I would trade Sano for Fernandez (maybe). More likely I would be willing trade Rosario, Pinto, and Adam Walker for Fernandez. I think that could get him.
  21. Also, with the Free Agents pitchers available, the cost for them will be ridiculous (even Josh Johnson). So, I say just roll with the youngsters and Correia (reluctantly). Just do Deduno, Gibson, Correia, Hendricks, and Albers. The FA Market is just as good as what we have (of what we can realistically get). Hope that we can have Meyer, May, Rogers, Dean, Darnell, and others sub in if the others fail. We are at a point where there is NO point to bring in these scrub pitchers anymore. Just a joke.
  22. I'm not baffled. I'm pissed. Not only do they not use their international money, but, they also didn't eat any of Morneau's salary to get a decent prospect in return. Now, they will lose him for nothing. Next year, they lose the contracts of Pelfrey, Morneau, Blackburn, and Carrol. That's a significant amount of money that they SHOULD be spending somehow. Do I think they can land a top FA? No. But, they should try and add more international money somehow and actually SPEND IT next year. Ugh. I'm sick of Terry Ryan and the love he gets. In my opinion, he is overrated.
  23. The more I've read about Pat Dean and Logan Darnell, I see them both as Duensing clones. They will be crafty left handers out of the bullpen but by no means "long-term" options in the starting rotation.
  24. I don't know why this kid is always so highly ranked. It reminds me of Joe Benson. He's so inconsistent!
  25. Well, I think this is obviously positive. In my opinion, just another reason that they should have traded guys to keep the rebuild going. But, that's me. Our pitching appears to be great in the next 4-5 years. With guys like Lewis Thorpe, Landa, Rosario, Felix Jorge, Eades, Gonscalves, Taylor Rogers, Duffey, Summers, Meyer, May, Darnell, Albers, Tomshaw, Tonkin, Berrios, Kohl Stewart etc. It's exciting!
