  1. I don't think Swarzak or Duensing with be used as starters unless the world ends. I would put Pressly in the same group, unless he doesn't make the 25 man roster. DeVries and Hernandez may or may not still be Twins. I would guess the rotation is: Free Agent A, Free Agent B, Correia, Gibson, and Pelfrey. There's a 50-50 chance Pelfrey is Free Agent B. If so, let the others fight out for the 5th spot and next man up.
  2. He was the one I was thinking about also. I would like to get a veteran lefty. Let Diamond and Albers fight it out in Rochester.
  3. Alex, I apologize again to you, I did misread your post. I also included Arcia, Thielbar, Presley, and Pressly. My exact words were, possible core types.
  4. I've lived in 4 communities with MLB, and my experience is all teams make excuses at some point in time. Many of us have been following the Twins since early youth, I think we're as qualified as anyone to decide if we want to support the current management group.
  5. Way too early to write off the future. I think Ryan said 15-18 will be off the 40 man roster. I counted 7 possible core types who made it to Target Field this season and I have 5 more who will make it sometime next season. I fully understand they will not all be stars, nor do they have to be. An OP once said you can compete and/or contend will a flawed roster and this has been proven time and time again. I wouldn't think many would agree with you, that 3 or more 90 loss seasons are inevitable or unavoidable.
  6. If I'm not mistaken we are down to 1 Cuban defector and of course Tanaka is a crapshoot. If we sign a Hughes type plus one, I believe we can get reasonably close to .500. Last season was open auditions, I'm hoping this season ends as a dress rehearsal. I understand I'm one of the few, but I think the rebuild has made good progress and the 2014 draft will help answer a lot of questions also. I never really appreciated the benefits of drafting high year after year, that is no longer the case.
  7. I agree because I have followed the Corporate Star also. Maybe the board could make a gentlemen's agreement that the Twins aren't run by Larry, Moe, and Curly.
  8. I agree the 5th pick this year looks outstanding. I would not mind taking two college starting pitchers with our 2 top picks. I've been looking at others, but I'll take a look at Beede also. Thanks!
  9. IMO showing support for your local team has nothing to do with shunning new and different ideas, or wanting the best education possible for your children or the finest medical care.
  10. I don't recall Ryan being called arrogant before, nor have I ever heard or read anything that even resembles him telling us what a awesome captain he is, even once.
  11. Sounds like a sound strategy to me. I think the loveable losers and lastros are copying us.
  12. If Detroit offers Cabrera and Scherzer for Sano, I'm convinced he would consider it. We may have to include Duensing.
  13. I think you're confusing accountability with making a public confession. Ryan is cool, calm, and calculated. He understands the Twins are not currently viewed in a favorable light, but he hasn't lost any confidence that the organization has what it takes to right the ship. Anyone who expects any signs of panic from One Twins Way is in for a long wait. He was just quoted as saying Sano and Buxton were not untouchable and the Pohlads have assured us money is no problem. Ryan has been back all of 23 months, IMO anyone who thinks this franchise is going to fall into the black abyss is overreacting, as is their privilege. The Twins are not the first sports franchise that needed to step back and rebuild.
  14. The Hot Stove League is a time for optimism. Ryan was recently quoted as saying even our best assets, Sano and Buxton, are not off the table in the right deal. We have money to spent, we have assets to trade, let's see how this plays out.
  15. I don't view Presley and/or Hicks as inadequate or awful. IMO the FO has adequately addressed the short term need in CF. There are other more pressing issues. I agree with Seth, we will see Buxton sooner rather than later, and I don't believe it will be influenced by screaming people.
  16. For 30 days of Morneau, Ryan got Presley and a PTNL. I believe he spent 4 days in Indianapolis looking for starting pitching, but settled for 2 useful pieces. King Theo was recently quoted that not all trades yield a core player. The Butera trade was, IMO universally applauded. Accepting cash for Carroll was not popular on the board, but I personally don't see where that was a big deal.
  17. Parmelee has been in the Twins Organization since 2006 and has 562 AB's. You can never answer all the questions, develop each and every player to their maximum potential etc., on a 25 man roster because the team comes first. I don't understand the agonizing over Parmelee, and I know others share your concern. I see him as a short term piece of the puzzle, no more, no less. Let me know if you see something I'm missing.
  18. I wouldn't take too much hope. I assume they extended a courtesy to a veteran so he had the max time to latch on with another team. Believe he has a father or brother in the business also.
  19. They are going to unmuddy the waters, and I expect to see a lot of this. During open auditions very few played their way into the future, but a great many played themselves out of it, if they ever even had a future. I'm curious about ST. One year some time ago, they had relatively few starting pitchers in camp. I'm wondering if the pecking order is close enough where this may be the case. I believe this was one of those unfortunate years that was necessary in the rebuilding process.
  20. It's like when the coach was asked about his team's execution. He replied, it's not a bad idea.
  21. Obviously a book could be written on this subject, possibly even a movie such as Moneyball. I don't believe it was the author's intent to provide a definitive work at this time.
  22. I agree players should not be called out, but I certainly understand Gardy's frustration. This is an organization that is not used to losing and quite frankly not used to being questioned the way they are. But that's life in the big city.
  23. What he means is just becomes some fans panic doesn't mean you have to. Nothing some fans like more than firing people or signing free agents to 6 year, 147M contracts. The Twins have millions of loyal and knowledgeable fans, you don't cave in to a vocal minority. If millions decide to vote with their feet, then that's a different deal.
  24. John made a very good point and not unlike an article I read in BA sometime ago. A mid-market team needs to reload at some point in time by getting high draft choices. They can not afford to buy their way out of it long term like the Yankees, Red Sox etc. Once there, the key is to stick to the 5 year plan and not succumb to more immediate pressures.
  25. Sticks and stones. Winning takes care of everything and winning is not that far off. The Pirate and Royal Faithful waited forever, our wait will be much shorter and the ensuing success just as well deserved.
