  1. Looking at the Twins record - we are hovering around .500. I know our pitching is the big problem, but I cannot imagine that we are so good that we could not use Granite on the MLB roster.
  2. Belisle and Boshers tainted the start for Jorge and left me wondering why we keep using these guys instead of giving Hildenberger some more innings to find out what he has. Maybe Molitor is just enamored with names that start with "B".
  3. I am excited to have Jorge pitch tomorrow rather than a cast off like Gee or one of the other revolving doors we have used. I really hope he turns some heads with a big performance. I also suspect that Busenitz will be back up quickly based on his success so far. I do agree that we could have used two different 26th man choices - one for each game since I believe the rules allow for different players to be designated for each game and right now Jorge contributes nothing to game one.
  4. Four outfielders who are all defensively talented would be nice. Put Grossman at 1B/DH. I am afraid that Vargas just has not done enough to hold his roster position and the pitching staff continues to grow so we cannot just add another bench player.
  5. I really enjoy this kind of update. It is disappointing to realize that all our attention and anticipation over players in the system is not shared by the larger national press, but still you give us some really good news to work with. I would love to see Felix really shine and force the Twins to think about him as more than a 26th man. It would be great to see both he and Gonsalves in the rotation and move on from Gibson and Santiago. Granite is a really interesting player and how the Twins handle him is intriguing. He needs to be rewarded with some MLB time and I hate to have to wait until an injury on the Twins to bring him up. Vargas has not produced so much that he has a protected roster spot and Grossman is the ideal DH and backup 1B with Granite rotating with the starting three outfielders we would lose no speed or defense.
  6. Really good teams have excellent players stuck in the minors, but is that the case with the Twins? It would seem that the problem always is with pitching. If we cannot have decent starters we need to have 13 (maybe more) relievers. And when the relievers are not that good we need even more to throw on the fire. Berrios and Santana and then the roster falls apart.
  7. The only thing we know for sure is that the Twins do not know what to do with their star talent, they bragged about his five tool skills and somehow caused him to be so messed up in the batters box that we are now down to fielding and baserunning. Who is at fault? So hard to tell, but such a shame.
  8. If we need another starter this weekend, I would rather give Gonsalves a start than Gee.
  9. Gibson is the same guy that got sent down. I do not like him up in the #2 slot. After Santana and Berrios it really does not matter. My biggest hope for the other three is that Mejia will get his talent to shine - he has more potential for success so I would put him three. And personally I would put Gonsalves in place of Gibson - what do we have to lose?
  10. I am intrigued by Granite, the way we are always intrigued by the second string QB. I do not know which of the outfielders I would replace with Granite - all are flawed. Buxton is in for Defense, but his bat still stinks and it is getting to be a long stretch of Mendoza line offense, Rosario has some power when he gets stirred up, but no plate discipline and a reduced defensive value, while Kepler comes in waves of good with lots of time in between. It might be our outfield of the future, but I do not thing those three would rank high if there was an outfield ranking for all the teams.
  11. Belisle is terrible and it is more than the eye test - 30.1 innings pitched - 33 hits and 17 walks giving up 26 runs (with relief pitchers I do not care if the runs are earned or unearned) and 18.8% of inherited base runners scored. And a 6.53 era. Move on. Our other slick veteran reliever - Breslow - only has a 5.28 era. 29 innings pitched with 34 hits and 10 walks! And these are the best of the numerous pitchers that the team has added this year. Would we have been worse off if we had just rotated through minor leaguers? We DFA Melatokis and keep these guys?
  12. All I want from our players is - fast enough. If they are stealing then they need to beat the throw, if a player is on base they need to beat the DP and get home. Fast is one measurement, but success is the most important.
  13. One of the stats that just can't be corrected -Berrios had runners on, but was not allowed to get out of the inning (an inning he should not have pitched) and then we bring in Belisle - hit and walk - but no outs. Belisle gets credit for no earned runs, just an appearance and thus Berrios adds to his ERA since these players pushed the probability of the inherited runners scoring. Thus Belisle will continue to look better than a record that looks bad already. Belisle has been a mistake signing. My relief pitchers have more up and down years than most starters and his signing may have looked good in the off season, but it's time for him to move out of the way for better prospects.
  14. Go young. We are building a team and all the dumpster grabs we have made this year have not been the reason we are having a good year. It must be something in the Minnesota air that has us continually looking out to find old Twins to bring back.
  15. Bring them up. Imagine what we might have today if we could have had starts that did not belong to Wilks, Tepesch, and Turley, but one one of these three. We might have lost all those games, but we might also have a starter in the rotation who we could see as a long term addition to Berrios and Santana.
  16. Nice essay. Sometimes we have to go back to the old scout format and look away from the metrics. The question is - is he doing his job - answer - yes. The second question is - do we have anyone better for the role? Answer - No. Go Kintzler. You are doing the job and we are winning. Your time will come, but for now, lets enjoy the ride.
  17. I must add my name to the shocked list. I kept hoping he would be called up, but instead he was sent away. Wow we must have an amazing bullpen (I missed it) to cut this prospect.
  18. I just came back from Marquette, MI and this game entertained me for most of the ride from Ashland home. What fun. This is baseball at its most enjoyable. I did expect an implosion many times, but Santana squirmed out of harm each inning
  19. I'm not in much to take away from this four game series. I'm not worried about the hitting but the pitching gives me no hope Gibson can claim a moral victory but we need pictures who Step Up in the big games
  20. Slow down. It is not about jumping to conclusions, it is about waiting to see what they are going to do. The draft was interesting and some think it was great, but wait three years. They are pitching Turley, Gibson, Wilks, and Mejia in a series with our number one competitor and the bullpen is a revolving door. We have had a long list of dumpster dives for the pitching staff. I do not say they are failing, but I am not reading to praise them either.
  21. Busenitz - good call up. He deserved it. So does Curtiss and a few more, but Wimmers? What is the affection they have with Wimmers?
  22. When I look at our team entering a four game series with Cleveland - the team we are fighting for first place and the rotation is Turley, Wilks, Mejia, and Gibson I am frustrated. When you only have two good starters - Berrios and Santana - they cannot go in every series, but this is no way to tackle the potentially best team in the division. I am hoping for standout performances far above their norms because we need a split from this series.
  23. Wimmers was a poor call up, we have Curtiss, Busenitz, and others who deserve to be called up. I am looking at our dumpster diving for the year and came up with these WHIP figures: Wilk 1.86, Wimmers 2.12, Tepesch 4.20, and Belisle 1.65. What about ERA?: Starting with Breslow at number 10 we have 15 of this years pitchers with ERAs over 5. Batting average against - we have 8 with more than a .300 average. In all MLB - there are 26 players with a 300 or better qualified batting average. We have 13 pitchers allowing an OBP of over 350. and there are 59 qualified batters in both leagues that have attained that level. There are 163 qualified batters on the list http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/stats/sortable.jsp?c_id=min#playerType=QUALIFIER&elem=%5Bobject+Object%5D&tab_level=child&click_text=Sortable+Player+hitting&game_type='R'&season=2017&season_type=ANY&league_code='MLB'&sectionType=sp&statType=hitting&page=4&ts=1497642298798&team_id=&sortColumn=obp&sortOrder='desc'&extended=0 So how are we in first place? We have 6 pitchers who have carried the load for us with Berrios and Santana starting and Rogers, Duffey, Kinzler and Boshers leading the Bullpen. Time to quit with the marginal pickups and develop the next pitchers in the system. Whatever it costs in coaching it is the best investment.
  24. The minor leagues are where we need to look and I will be happy when the FO turns off the waiver (dumpster) wire and starts finding out who we have in our own system. At 26 we should get players up or out. Reading the minor league summaries I cannot figure out why Rosario is the only one given a chance.
  25. As I read these posts I can only think about the Twins choices for starting this weekend against Cleveland - Wilks and Turley against the team that we are trying to hold off for first place. Something seems wrong here. Okay Turley deserves a second chance, but couldn't they have arranged starts so that one of our other young pitchers could have taken Wilks place?
