Can't keep kicking the can down the road. Or can we? But anything worse than a 3-3 road trip and we are truly, really, pretty much cooked this time. Realistically need to go 4-2 to start the long climb back to .500. And need to win this series at the very very least. I'll take these pitching matchups we have this weekend. Curious to see how they respond after Wednesday + a day off.

OK, I'm officially turning the page from last night's trauma. After all, Dan Hayes just reminded me on the Twin Cities Territory podcast that the Rockies won 14 of their final 15 games to win the Wild Card in 2007 and then won 7 straight to go to the World Series. Nothing to it, we got this! 🤞

OK. Chicago and Cleveland both lost this afternoon. So I feel approximately 14% better;) Doesn't seem possible that we could be as little as 3 down in the division by Sunday night, but here we are. Find a way somehow to win 4 of the next 6 games. A sweep in Chicago seems like a tall task but they still have a chance. The Wild Card is just a mess right now. I mean, Seattle is still in it, too.

Almost 10 games might be on the generous side. The Reds, Pirates, first KC home series, etc. all come to mind. Credit to the pen, they did a much better job from mid-June into August. But the damage was done.

For sure. Fair to wonder what the front office would've done come the deadline had we not won (stolen) those two walk offs against KC.

Need a Houston win this afternoon over Chicago to feel like 7% recovered from last night.

Yeah, didn't you hear Plouffe recently on the broadcast? The players don't have time to focus on bunting🤣

Which reminds me - I showed my father-in-law the other day the Jomboy breakdown of the Ohtani/Rushing snafu at Target Field and became mad all over again that we lost that game 4-3 after scoring 3 runs off Ohtani. Also got 3 runs off the Miz in the second half and didn't win that one either (another 4-3 loss).

And in between those home games is a final West Coast road trip against two bad teams that is just destined for doom. I'm hoping to catch a game during the Rangers series though.

Also thought his oppo shot to RF in the 10th was going off the wall. The end of each Twins inning from the 8th through the 11th was just brutal. Ah...baseball!

Losses like last night are a good reminder that some baseball fans have to cope with legitimate postseason heartbreak. I can not imagine how a Blue Jays fan dealt with last year's Game 7 loss. Seattle blowing a lead to get to the World Series for the first time must've been devastating. We had a few fun runs to the postseason in the 2000s though! And I assume many here are also Vikings fans. So we get it.

There was a strikeout on the Tigers at some point last night where, on the TV, there was literally no audible reaction from the fans. Crowd just totally checked out.

Tigers' shortstop was pissed - he sure thought he should've had it. Speaking of hits/errors, I thought the official scorer was going to give Kody a hit for his grounder that the first baseman bobbled earlier in the game.

On the flip side, teams in a pennant race (which the math says we are/were) playing in a gorgeous ballpark on a summer's night tend to draw solid crowds across MLB.

It's a damn shame Gardenhire's 2002-2010 teams never broke through to a World Series. They were certainly good enough.

I also wonder if an injured Joe Ryan was forthright with the team about his health? Just a weird season for him all around. Guy leaves after one batter with elbow soreness; everyone fears the worst and meanwhile he doesn't miss a start (and was fantastic in that start, by the way). I think mentally something's just been a bit off on the "Experience" this season.
