    I totally see your point. But strictly by the standings math, they’ll probably end up one hot week away in the course of a 6 month season from being in the playoffs or at least still in the hunt in this final week. Even just an extra win a month…that’s not far off imo.

    Can’t help but ruminate on, if we had righted this ship sooner, we would be playing for something truly meaningful this weekend. They weren’t that far off imo. A few breaks here and there, better execution…Oh well. So it goes. I’ve been entertained.

    Do they though? I dunno, seems like the Experience has to be better to justify a huge contract imo. I know All-Star pitchers don't grow on trees...just kinda tired of the Ryan drama. And the second half drop off is a real issue. Plus, pretty sure he wants to be on the West Coast. Instead, I'm hoping they extend Pablo and keep him a Twin until he retires.

    I couldn't believe Denard Span is 6th among all Giants for homers into McCovey Cove. Only played two years there, too.

    I noticed the fist pump he gave after getting to 90 RBI yesterday. We definitely got the full Josh Bell experience this year. I think he had two stretches where he went close to a month without a homer. When he's hot, he's hot though. Put him with a domed team next season (Texas? Houston?) and he'll put up solid numbers again.

    1 homer in the past 30 games is wild. He has looked lost at the plate and probably is still in his head thinking the organization is "waiting for the me to struggle so .. they can get out me out here." Royce has definitely been a better first baseman than expected though, imo. I can't remember when he's missed a scoop.

    Is there a precedent to a team making a move like that in the final week, cutting a guy with 90+ RBI? They would be doing JB a solid to give him a chance to join a playoff team, knowing it's not likely he's coming back to the Twins.

    To Nick's point: If it comes down to Martin or Kreidler next spring, I'm in camp Kreidler. 6 games to go. Would like to see 'em get to at least 75 wins and play spoiler against Texas. Even if that means helping out Houston or the White Sox.

    We had a much lower ERA, higher batting average by 90 points and 9-5 in extra base hits across 4 games. So, yeah, of course we only managed a split 🤦🏻‍♂️ Can’t lose 90 games at least. Fun game with zero expectations after a nice Vikes win. Loved what we saw from Roden!

    Shelty sure carried some water for Joe Ryan, citing lingering "rust" as a factor last night for his lack of sharpness. How many times this season has he been unable to go beyond 5 innings because of a high pitch count? Seems like a lot.

    Honestly, would be so funny to hear a montage of Shelton saying some variation of “we didn’t capitalize on our opportunities.” Probably said it after 50 games (maybe more?) in his postgame presser. Who’s accountable to that? Been an issue literally all season, despite the high RISP average in the first half.

    Dang, a lot of walk off/extra inning losses during this stretch since Aug. 1. Frustrating. This team can not close out games. Sorry, I love Twins baseball and appreciate the (marginal) step forward this year, but I tell ya, I am so ready for this season to be done.

    I mentioned this in last night's game thread but thought this might merit its own thread.. I really enjoy listening to Cory Provus Fridays on InForum on YouTube. He's much more blunt than he would normally be on the broadcast. Today he talked about ERod's show of joy/emotion and contrasted that with the team's lack of energy recently and specifically Royce: "You don't see it much from Royce anymore. ... he's had a bad finish." He doesn't think Royce is a lock at first next year either, and said the defense/run prevention needs to improve. "Teams are running at will against the Twins. Enough is enough. Come on." Also agrees that we have too many utility players. Predicts Keaschall will play left field next year. Stars around the 28-minute mark. Good stuff, thanks, Cory!
