  1. So far in this game, the Twins have come to life a bit and gone from dead to somnolent. I expect over over the next few games the Twins may achieve Zombie status. After that, the sky is the limit.
  2. Twins - Rangers: Two Teams. Two styles of ineptitude. Who will prevail in this titanic battle between two teams bound and determined to make baseball history..and not in a good way....
  3. I can hardly wait for the game tonight. Really. Truly, Seriously. Well, okay, maybe in a "rip the bandage off quickly" sort of way.
  4. As I have posted elsewhere, I think the Oakland Face-Plant factored in the trade deadline non-moves. Had the Twins taken care of business in Oakland, which they should have, there might have been more done at the deadline. Right now, the Twins are still in the process of figuring out what they have and if what they have is enough for a playoff drive. There is a youth movement that looks promising and also needs to know what it's like to be under pressure to win. The team needed to step up against a bad team and, instead, fell apart. I didn't expect the Twins to be in it in August this year, but here we are. Next year, though, there should be enough experience and pitching for the Twins to make some noise. I don't think this year is the year for the Twins to really go for broke. Next year, though, I expect more. Contention next year is sort of expected. Contention this year is a bonus.
  5. So, I'm in LV tomorrow. I'm going to put $20 on the Twins and KC. I'm looking forward to sitting in the Sports Book and looking at a wall of baseball games.
  6. To me, it doesn't matter how cheaply Tulowitzki was acquired. The injury and salary were probably too much for the Twins to stomach and I do not blame them. With the Twins recent history of injury problems, why would they bring someone in with a history of injury along with an impossibly high salary? Imagine what would be said the first time Tulowitzki went down with an injury. The press would be ugly. The Twins have enough salary and injury problems with Joe Mauer. Earlier up thread, I believe Brock mentioned giving player the chance to play meaningful games in August and September. I agree completely, because the Twins will not know what kind of roster they have until there is some real pressure. Being in the hunt for the playoffs should help the Twins figure out exactly what they have and what needs to be changed. The Twins need to find out if there are solutions in Rochester this year. Then evaluate what needs to be added and address those needs across the winter. The Twins have, over the last few years, built up a fine farm system. I would hate to see the system stripped of players because the Twins went into "win now" mode before they really should. I see next year as being the "win now" year. This year I see as somewhat of a punt.
  7. Shouldn't that be "totallyhotsupermodel362636?"
  8. My favorite thing, though, is sites that I don't care about that constantly demand I change my password. Those are my "increment by 1" sites. Unfortunately, though, too many people think "increment by 1" is an effective password strategy. For instance, let's say your password is: YankeesSuck0 and the next time you have to change your password you use YankeesSuck..umm, nevermind, I think everyone get's the idea.
  9. If you wash everything in the same load, eventually, you don't have to worry about white, black, green, etc.
  10. Has no one here ever heard of Willie Shoemaker? Sheesh.
  11. Gibson is making the glove pop tonight. I get to watch on regular tv rather than MLB. Yay commercials.
  12. The Twins should feel right at home during this game. 90 degrees and 110% humidity. If you guys in the Midwest wonder where your summer is, it's taking a vacation in CA. Okay, I'm exaggerating a bit.
  13. Calvin Coolidge on the cooking of his wife, Grace: GRACE'S COOKING Grace Coolidge did all the cooking and housework in their home. Coolidge used to drop one of her biscuits on the floor and stamp his foot to emphasize the thud. He said they were awful hard. The first time Grace made an apple pie, it came out tough. After she offered it to a couple of her friends, he asked them: "Don't you think the road commissioner would be willing to pay my wife something for her recipe for pie crust?"
  14. Well, there are the old standby questions: Janine Melnitz: "Do you believe in UFOs, astral projections, mental telepathy, ESP, clairvoyance, spirit photography, telekinetic movement, full trance mediums, the Loch Ness monster and the theory of Atlantis?" Winston Zeddemore: "Ah, if there's a steady paycheck in it, I'll believe anything you say."* *Note the key answer: Steady paycheck.
  15. I don't care for them either and I live in CA. I much prefer getting home and turning on the game right away.
  16. Ah, the Twins are back. My withdrawal symptoms were getting out of hand.
  17. So, her candidate resume must include somewhat arcane baseball knowledge. I'm cool with that.
  18. More importantly, DH or pitcher flails? (Flails - Fails..one letter difference. Coincidence? I think not)
  19. Unless it's Coastal CA, then it's nuts, toffu, kale and kiwi.
  20. I remember a story from years ago when Frankie V. was supposedly screamed at by an opposing hitter because he threw 3 changeups in a row (or something like that) and struck the batter out.
  21. "Vulture" May? Seriously, though, seeing May come in made me realize the Twins had a chance. That was a cool win.
  22. Uh huh, and I won the lottery last night.
  23. And the abuse thread is the next door over.
  24. I see Hicks is going the opposite way this game. Rather than a spectacular play in the outfield and then a home run, Hicks decided to get take care of the home run first. I can hardly wait to see the catch.
