  1. So far in this game, the Twins have come to life a bit and gone from dead to somnolent. I expect over over the next few games the Twins may achieve Zombie status. After that, the sky is the limit.
  2. Twins - Rangers: Two Teams. Two styles of ineptitude. Who will prevail in this titanic battle between two teams bound and determined to make baseball history..and not in a good way....
  3. I can hardly wait for the game tonight. Really. Truly, Seriously. Well, okay, maybe in a "rip the bandage off quickly" sort of way.
  4. Actually, it was a random thought masquerading as a punchline contest entry.
  5. I'm going to start a "bring back Cole DeVries" movement.
  6. So, "epic fail" means we learned more?
  7. Well, with the complete waste of baseball time the Twins have turned into it's going to make my upcoming game threads rather interesting.
  8. There were a couple of Twins from the wharf, Who played out of their heads at the beginning of the season But when things did not go as designed, they tanked for no reason And the fans were all ready to barf (reaching, really reaching)
  9. Anyone else think Mr. Morris or Mr. Blyleven would have allowed Toronto to remain comfortable at the plate? Seriously, what is going on? Early on, the Twins were going hard inside. Now? Might as well bring back Rick Anderson.
  10. As I have posted elsewhere, I think the Oakland Face-Plant factored in the trade deadline non-moves. Had the Twins taken care of business in Oakland, which they should have, there might have been more done at the deadline. Right now, the Twins are still in the process of figuring out what they have and if what they have is enough for a playoff drive. There is a youth movement that looks promising and also needs to know what it's like to be under pressure to win. The team needed to step up against a bad team and, instead, fell apart. I didn't expect the Twins to be in it in August this year, but here we are. Next year, though, there should be enough experience and pitching for the Twins to make some noise. I don't think this year is the year for the Twins to really go for broke. Next year, though, I expect more. Contention next year is sort of expected. Contention this year is a bonus.
  11. The Twins would show guts if they cut Joe Mauer and ate the contract. Joe is no longer an asset providing diminishing returns. Rather, Mauer is a straight-up liability with a big contract and no upside. Perhaps there is a lingering fondness for Mr. Mauer (I was one of them) but there comes a point where it is past time to let go.
  12. I sort of figured Sano would do his thing. Mauer still is not off the hook with me.
  13. I've been away. I'm making up for lost grumping time.
  14. I think the Oakland Face Plant is why Ryan didn't do more to try and upgrade the team. This series is merely confirmation.
  15. By the way, Joe Mauer needs to either have some sort of "injury" and take a few months off or retire. Then bring up Vargas and let him find his way.
  16. Batista deserves one in the ribs for standing at the plate like he did. Twins pitchers need to start going hard inside again.
  17. So, I'm in LV tomorrow. I'm going to put $20 on the Twins and KC. I'm looking forward to sitting in the Sports Book and looking at a wall of baseball games.
  18. To me, it doesn't matter how cheaply Tulowitzki was acquired. The injury and salary were probably too much for the Twins to stomach and I do not blame them. With the Twins recent history of injury problems, why would they bring someone in with a history of injury along with an impossibly high salary? Imagine what would be said the first time Tulowitzki went down with an injury. The press would be ugly. The Twins have enough salary and injury problems with Joe Mauer. Earlier up thread, I believe Brock mentioned giving player the chance to play meaningful games in August and September. I agree completely, because the Twins will not know what kind of roster they have until there is some real pressure. Being in the hunt for the playoffs should help the Twins figure out exactly what they have and what needs to be changed. The Twins need to find out if there are solutions in Rochester this year. Then evaluate what needs to be added and address those needs across the winter. The Twins have, over the last few years, built up a fine farm system. I would hate to see the system stripped of players because the Twins went into "win now" mode before they really should. I see next year as being the "win now" year. This year I see as somewhat of a punt.
  19. And the combined fan base of every other AL Team is far larger than the fan base of the Yankees. All of those fans would probably like to know their favorite team to hate got pounded. But heaven forbid a media organization report to the largest fan base in the country.
  20. Now I remember why I despise the Yankees. Well, other than the huge cloud of smug that permeates their dugout. Does MLB.com mention the Twins pounding the Yankees yesterday? No. But MLB.com darn sure mentions the Yankees comeback today.
  21. I was a young curmudgeon myself. I was a late bloomer in most things but not curmudgeonliness.
  22. How scrappy are the Twins? Even the pitcher's uniforms get dirty!
