  1. I read Cameron's article and, to me, he basically made the case you need to use the entire bullpen and not just a select few arms because, surprise, over used relievers lose their effectiveness. Anyway, I seem to recall a manager that won a couple of World Series rings and one of the relievers later said they had clearly defined roles and basically a rotation within the rotation so on any given day, they knew who was going to be called. Any guesses as to who the manager was?
  2. Not much to argue there. I work with a bunch of Dodger fans. I may start answering my phone with the phrase: "Dodger fan depression hotline, how may I help you?"
  3. Wow, just wow.
  4. I was surprised when Puig's ball went out. Good grief that guy is strong. Not impressed with Deverinski, though. Guy struts around on the mound while giving up multiple hits and allowing the game to be tied.
  5. I don't think Morrow is the problem. I think the fact he's pitched, what, 5 pressure packed games in a row is. If anything, a change of scenery might just be the ticket.
  6. Both managers have completely thrashed their bullpens by the time game 5 rolls around and what, exactly, are the managers going to do if the game goes extra innings?
  7. Move Dozier to DH and keep him as the leadoff hitter then move Adrianza to second.
  8. Tonight, game 5, I'm watching what happens when managers have been overly reliant on their bullpens. Not pretty, at all and I think it points out how dangerous short starts are in a short series.
  9. I was talking to a rabid Dodgers fan last night and he wasn't all that impressed with Puig. Which I found to be somewhat of a surprise. (There were some rabid Dodger fans in Laughlin last night. I found the evening to be rather enjoyable later on. Funny how that works. Yeah, I'm pulling for Houston.)
  10. I always thought Gold Glove was glove first, bat second. If the award was truly weighted that way, then Mauer should have won it easily. As for Brian Dozier, I'm shocked Brian is even in the discussion for a Gold Glove. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a steady defender with an excellent bat. But I just don't see how the bat overcomes a mediocre glove.
  11. Good, I like this. Maybe it won't work, but it does signal a willingness to work outside the "good old boy" coaching network.
  12. I think the Twins need some bullpen flexibility. Kintzler appears to be able to work middle relief and step in to take over the ninth inning in case of extended ineffectiveness by whomever is tagged as the ninth inning guy. So, I think Kintzler should receive serious consideration. And, Kintzler now has a valuable commodity: post-season experience.
  13. I work with several Dodger fans and I told them up front I'd root for Houston if they made it to the Series and root for the Dodgers if New York made the series. Funny thing is, I also told several of the same people a few months ago that I'd like to see a Houston/LA series.
  14. In other words, familiar territory for Mr. Gardenhire.
  15. I vaguely remember reading that President Trump played baseball as a youth and "pretty good" was as far as I was willing to go, because I wasn't sure if he was good, very good or most excellent. And I was too lazy to look it up.
  16. The president follows baseball? Been a while since we've had one of those. Kind of cool. Although, in retrospect, since President Trump was a pretty good player as a youngster, I guess it shouldn't come as a surprise.
  17. Yeah, I like ground rules and the DH/Pitcher swings the bat is the ultimate ground rule.
  18. Hey, at least you're not saying: "Want some fries with that coke?"
  19. I don' think it was a bad decision to hire Allen. Sometimes things just don't work out. This is why people lose jobs all the time.
  20. Add another foot back the mound and see if that solves some problems with pitching. If memory serves, during the "year of the pitcher" the mound was a foot higher than it currently is. I have to believe that scouting and analytics have given a huge edge to hitters and going back to the taller pitching mound my be the only answer. My .02.
  21. I have the Tribe to win it all at 7 to 1.
  22. The one who has OWNED New York over the last few years. And yes, that would be the first data point I looked at.
