  1. Even with the injuries and college I still think calling May a late bloomer is fair. When you draft a college player, it's reasonable to expect them to develop faster. I can agree with Garver though, catcher is a different animal altogether.
  2. It looks to me like overall age combined with relative lack of prospect status.
  3. Still has some value? Where is this coming from? Polanco is 26, and just put up a 6 WAR season with MVP votes.
  4. I don't agree. I think pro athletes cherish their championship rings more than just about anything else they own. (The ones fortunate enough to have one.) You start taking those back, I think you catch their attention, IMO.
  5. Speaking of depth, as of now our 3rd starter is Homer Bailey...
  6. IMO counting on Hill as anything more than a lottery ticket come October would be foolish.
  7. It would appear so. I'll certainly eat my crow, and apologize for my comments regarding the sincerity of the offer. I was wrong.
  8. The batters didn't need to look away. They were using sounds (specifically banging on trash cans) to indicate the pitch to the hitter from the dugout.
  9. They lost in the postseason for a number of reasons. One of them being their complete lack of offense- 7 runs in 3 games, including 3 runs total in games 2 and 3.
  10. The Vikings brought Treadwell back because they had to pay him either way, and were up against the cap. Treadwell will be out of the league once the Vikings move on from him, IMO. I think it speaks to the state of the Vikings WR corps after Diggs and Thielen, not the league. Plenty of WR talent league wide.
  11. Me too, but that's an incredibly low bar, IMO.
  12. I'm not sure about that. Once you fall into the mid rounds, you could pretty much go anywhere, good or bad.
  13. I could see Johnson falling a bit, it's an incredibly stacked WR class this year, both in quality and depth. A bit of unlucky timing for him.
  14. I understand what he's inferring. But the author isn't giving an opinion on, nor asking whether we SHOULD be looking for a replacement. He's outlining some of the Twins options, IF "the Twins are intent on moving Miguel Sanó to first base to improve the defense." Personally, I'm ok giving Sano one more year to see if he can stabilize his defense. And, I'm a person who typically "overvalues" defense on this site. But of the options available, I think only Donaldson is a clear net upgrade. I definitely have no interest in Longoria. I'm more and more intrigued by trading for a better defensive SS, and moving Polanco to 3B. I think upgrading SS is going to impact the game more than upgrading 3B.
  15. I have no way of knowing if a larger offer could have lured Wheeler away from Philadelphia. But what a do know is that offering him less wasn't going to do it. That's my main beef with the way this FO operates in free agency. (And for the record I still support them.) Offering less money isn't going to lure them away from somewhere they prefer to be, so why even make that offer? That's why i have a hard time considering these "serious" offers. Yes, $100M is a lot of money. Even in the context of pro athletes, it's a lot of money. But it's still less than the amount offered by his preferred destination! And to go on record, I'd have matched the Ryu offer. I think in the context of this FA period, it's a very reasonable contract. All pitchers are injury risks, every single one.
  16. I made zero assumptions about whether it would actually work or not. I was simply pointing out that your question was literally answered explicitly in the opening line.
  17. My bad on the playing time comparison. That's what I deserve for skimming.
  18. fWAR: '17: 2.7 '18: 3.1 '19: 4.4 bWAR: '17: 1.9 '18: 3.9 '19: 3.3 K/BB: '17: 2.9 '18: 3.3 '19: 3.8 ERA-: '17: 88 '18: 89 '19: 79 FIP-: '17: 87 '18: 92 '19: 84 xFIP-: '17: 103 '18: 92 '19: 94 Looks like pretty clear improvement to me.
  19. Sano put up double the bWAR (3.1 vs 1.6), in 50% less games than Thames last year. And, Sano is just 26 years old, so there is certainly the opportunity for improvement.
  20. I've been guilty of skimming some articles in my time. But this is literally the opening line of the article: "If the Twins are intent on moving Miguel Sanó to first base to improve the defense, here are five of the best options to fill in at third base."
  21. Of course. I must have missed that context in your original post.
  22. While Aaron Gleeman is probably more plugged into the league than most of us here, he's not a reporter. He's not beholden to only reporting facts, he also freely gives uninformed opinions just like all of us do. I wouldn't necessarily assume that everything he says is rooted in inside information.
  23. I don't think HR power is on anyone's list of critiques when it comes to Rosario, so I'm not sure how that will make anyone look bad. His flaws are on base percentage, plate discipline, baserunning, and defense. I'm not sure juicing or dejuicing the ball fixes any of those.
  24. I'm positing that perhaps last year's improvement was driven by a specific and sustainable change he made, either mechanical or approach. If that's the case, then the last 5 years aren't very meaningful. Only the numbers from the point he made that change onward are. I don't personally know if he made an adjustment, or just got lucky in a 73 inning sample size. But I trust that the FO has done some homework where that is concerned. This still leaves 2 spots for internal options. Bailey isn't blocking anyone. Every team needs league average guys to fill out their team, even the big spenders.
