  1. Fair enough in theory. Problem is though, none of us on this board are watching every single game, every single team, every single year. Short of that, you can never evaluate a player on the "eye test", more accurately than you can using stats. The few times a year that you've seen Player X, may have been the 5 best or 5 worst games of his season. This isnt football, not much happens that doesn't show up in the boxscore.
  2. Fair enough, although that is still not a 7 WAR swing, but close enough. I doubt you'd find many more though. I don't think its fair to assume that Jamey Carroll will regress at the rate of one guy, vs. the thousands of players that have played over the last 100 years.
  3. Tubby has had a HOF career. He didn't need to accomplish anything here to get offers. He was going to get those no matter what, just based off his name. Hence Jay Bilas saying it was "disgusting" to fire him. Clearly people hadn't even been looking at his results here, and were only seeing that a HOF coach had been fired. This kid has proven nothing, if anyone tries to lure him away, it's going to be because he's done something here to earn it. Huge difference.
  4. It was pretty bad. Here is the pitch F/X on that AB, from the pitchers view: http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/numlocation_io.php?pitchSel=150274&game=gid_2013_04_08_tbamlb_texmlb_1/&batterX=73&innings=yyyyyyyyy&sp_type=1&s_type=3
  5. I guess I'm not buying that a catcher has no control, over very large sample sizes, over the % of baserunners that he throws out. Who knew that all of these years, scouts all over the world have wasted their time judging catching prospects on things (arm strength, accuracy, release speed) that apparently are irrelevant.
  6. I don't think it's cynical to think Correai will probably fail in the AL. It's a pretty realistic expectation when looking at his career numbers, his K rate, and the NL to AL jump.
  7. None of those guys experienced a 7 WAR swing in one season. I don't think he's disputing that guys can decline with age, I think he is disputing the extreme severity that you claim. I have to say I agree with him. I would be shocked to see an example of a guy going from 3.5 WAR to negative 3.5 WAR in one season.
  8. This logic doesnt make much sense. If guys WANT KC to fail, those people should be glad that he was sent out for the 8th, as that is when he failed.
  9. The problem is with people citing UZR/150, not the stat itself. UZR/150 should NOT be used to extrapolate, it should be used to condense. Think of it like one might use the HR stat. You shouldnt say a guy is a 30 HR/year guy, just because he hits 5 HR's in April. But you could say he's a 30 HR/year guy if he hits 90 over 3 seasons. That is the same way UZR/150 should be used.
  10. Ok, this combined with the team shown earlier that lost 0 to negative 1 is too much mind blowing for my brain to handle in one day, if true.
  11. Okay, that makes more sense. 4th prospect is nothing special, given how thin our system was at that time. On that list, Blackburn was #1, and Swarzak was right behind Robertson at #5. There are clubs out there right now that have #4 prospects that wouldnt crack our top 15.
  12. Ok, lets stay on topic though. What exactly is in Gardy's pipe, for him to see this pitch as "almost over his head"? I mean, maybe he just has a VERY liberal definition of the word 'almost'?
  13. credit to thatstwinsbaseball.com This was my favorite, and most lasting image of the BH era.
  14. LOL, the FSN evening replay of the game just happens to be in the 8th inning now, so I took a snapshot. If this really is the AB Gardy is referring to (and he didn't just misspeak), then I'm seriously left scratching my head at what he is talking about!!
  15. Came across this on the Strib site: "Your starter goes into the eighth without giving up a run," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "He had a five-hit shutout. He got one pitch up and it got to the gap. They got a big hit there. The hit-and-run (by Escobar) was incredible. That ball was almost over his head. That's a hell of job by Escobar to get the bat on the ball. Correia collapses in 8th, Twins lose to Kansas City 3-1 | StarTribune.com Which AB was Gardy referring to? If he was referring to the Escobar double in the 8th that scored Gordon, then I'm not sure where he is going with this, as the ball was right down the middle: http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/numlocation_io.php?pitchSel=429781&game=gid_2013_04_08_minmlb_kcamlb_1/&batterX=61&innings=yyyyyyyyy&sp_type=1&s_type=3
  16. I think you don't understand what second guessing means. If my stance was formed BEFORE the results were known, that is not second guessing.
  17. He's not? How bad would it have to get to be considered bad for the 8 spot? As you can see from my previous posts, I think Dozier should improve, and even if he doesn't he deserves more time to see if he can, but RIGHT NOW, he's hitting terrible for any spot in the lineup other than maybe #9 in the NL. (The pitcher's spot). He's 3/24 (.125), with 1 BB, 7 K's, and 1 XBH.
  18. And the bolded part where you attempt to get in my head and declare, for me, what my motives are was?
  19. I've gone out of my way to tell you that this is not always possible, but that in this specific case, it was possible. I really don't understand how I can make that any clearer?
  20. I don't second guess anything. I defended Gardy in today's game for sticking with Correia. I took this Perkins/Robertson stance before the results.
  21. Either you missed the post where I specifically said you don't have to use Perkins in EVERY high leverage situation, or you chose to ignore it. I said you have to use him in this one because Burton is unavailable and Duensing has already been used.
  22. Dozier has 364 mlb PA's. Plouffe after 1st 364 mlb PA's: .226/.272/.343/.615, 10 HR, 3.4 KK/BB Dozier after 1st 364 mlb PA's: .228/.261/.326/.587, 6 HR, 3.9 KK/BB Giving up on Dozier after 364 PA's would be as silly as giving up on Plouffe after his first 364 PA's. But, I can't say this surprises me, considering a TON of people wanted to bail on Plouffe as well.
  23. Yeah I hear you. I just hate to see the argument dismissed by saying that you don't want to wear out his arm by making him throw multiple innings. To me what happens in the 9th is a completely different discussion, and shouldnt have much bearing on this one.
  24. Considering that Dozier has nearly twice as many GIDP's in his career than he does HR's, I am not exaggerating when I say that Gardy should literally be fired on the spot if that was his logic. (I highly doubt that could have been his logic, ergo i'm not calling for him to be fired.)
