  1. Amen.
  2. I believe Julio Borbon was available on waivers a couple of weeks back. I know he's nothing special, but he could have held down CF for a few weeks in a pinch to give them more flexibility with Hicks. By not going out and getting a CF option, it shows they don't WANT to send him down, even if they could. And BTW, I'm fine with that, but just thought I'd point that out.
  3. Umm, maybe if Gardy didn't want Arcia sent down, he shouldn't have sat him on the bench for nearly a week straight. He left Ryan no choice at that point, he's too young to sit on the bench.
  4. No. What I am arguing is that if you looked at this roster before the season and thought it was a .500 club, you are not very good at evaluating your own talent, and should be fired. What I'm saying is this club doesn't have .500 talent, because if it did, it would be a .500 ballclub. Maybe, I'll be wrong, and we finish .500, but I don't think we will. And if we don't finish .500, it's because we are not .500 talent, not because we got unlucky, or whatever he is trying to argue.
  5. He's not a great prospect. I'd put him somewhere around #30'ish in the system for now. He was a 5th round college reliever. The odds of him ever getting more than a cup of coffee in the big leagues is pretty slim.
  6. Perhaps if people feel so strongly about PJ, it should have been PJ and Gibson, with Deduno not coming up? Either way, Gibson should have been 1 of the 2 called up. He's going to be up in 2 weeks anyways, are they really telling us that he can learn that much over the next 2 weeks at AAA?
  7. Time to see if we can keep this winning streak going. Pelfrey vs. Scherzer. Sounds like a win to me.
  8. As the great Bill Parcells once said, you are what your record says you are. Period. You can make all the excuses you want. At the end of a 162 games, your record is going to be what it should be. So, I guess we will revisit this in 4 months and see how we look then.
  9. Why would he need a couple of years? At his age, he could go on a 6 week hot streak and get a call up. They took him for the same reason we should have kept him. When a guy has legit talent (I get he hasnt turned it into results so far), you don't give up on him until you have to. If he hasnt done anything to get a call up this year, I'm guessing Texas says goodbye, it was worth a shot. It's not like they traded for him, there was no risk, all they did was move a guy to the 60 day DL. BTW: As bad as Benson was, he has a higher MLB OPS+ than Hicks does.
  10. The surgery was almost 9 months ago, good grief. This was bone spurs, not Tommy John.
  11. Just because it can happen, doesn't mean it has happened. If he has an injury he should be on the DL. I'm not sure how pitching in AAA is going to heal his injury.
  12. I agree that he's probably not THIS bad, that would be pretty hard to sustain for anyone. But I don't think he's very good at all. I think he's probably a 5th starter on a poor team, and not on a playoff team's rotation. He's probably right around Nick Blackburn territory, IMO. I've yet to hear any suggestion of an injury, so I don't know why you are speculating on that. But, I guess in all fairness, considering the Twins medical history, I must say I wouldnt' be shocked if he had an injury and the Twins just didn't know it.
  13. I'm sure Morneau is really going to start slugging soon though, because I was guaranteed that he would be back to the pre concussion form and would OPS north of .900 this year.
  14. Yeah, a possible middle reliever helps a little, but not enough to justify the damage that Worley will do over the next few years, IMO.
  15. Seth, baseball is a hard game. Outside of a couple dozen (if that) elite players, who is really legitimately "consistent"? Almost nobody is. If every GM demanded true "consistency" from everyone, it would be tough to field a single 25 man team, let alone 30 of them. I'd say we have at least 20 guys on our roster right now who need to be sent down based on this consistency requirement. Actually, I take that back. We have a few who have been pretty consistently bad all year.
  16. Another surgery for what?? Whiplash from spinning around to watch all the laser beams hit off him? In all seriousness, though, have you considered that maybe Worley just isnt any good? When do teams trade good, cost controlled young pitchers? Pretty much never, let alone for players who are serviceable, but have a pretty low ceiling (Revere). Worley's numbers in the NL were fluky, driven by a unsustainable fluky K looking rate that MLB hitters were guaranteed to adjust to. Philidelphia knew it, and they sold while they still could.
  17. To be clear, I have no problem with the confidence in Ryan. I disagree, I would put it at about 65/35'ish, but I can understand it. I can't understand the confidence in whomever made the decision to sign Nishi, whomever made the decision to get rid of Gomez (which would have been fine had we kept Hardy), then subsequently trade Hardy for nothing. I can't understand the confidence in whomever failed to entertain trading Delmon Young after his near impossible fluke season, when he finally established some trade value that some sucker probably would have taken bait on. I can't understand the confidence in whomever thought it was a good idea to trade a top prospect for a mediocre set up man, then forfeit a 1st round pick to keep said mediocre set up man. I can't understand the confidence in Rick Anderson. Who has he ever made better? I get that the coaches cant take the field, and most of it falls on the players. But, Anderson has a consistent track record of: Pitchers leaving here and improving their K rate, and pitchers coming here and their K rate drops. At what point is that an obvious trend? And again, don't cop out by assigning Bill Smith the blame for all of the above. I'm no Billy Smith fan, was thrilled to see him leave that position. But, he was an administrator. The baseball decisions were made with the input of those around him, all of whom are still here.
  18. A championship caliber team?? I must have missed those. I saw plenty of win a weak division caliber teams, but outside of 1 year (the year we got swept by the vastly inferior A's) I don't think Ryan ever put together a team built to win in the playoffs, and I think the playoff record has bore that out.
  19. Right, nobody could possibly see this coming. If someone has a take and it turns out to be right, it can only be "idiot luck".
  20. 1) Because we would need the '27 Yankees lineup just to finish at .500 with this horrible pitching rotation. Our starting pitchers literally turn every hitter they face into Joe Mauer. (The stat comparison is posted by someone in another thread.) 2) Again, outside of maybe Doumit, name these hitters who should have been expected to hit better than they have? I don't think you can include any of the young guys (Hicks, Parm, Plouffe, Dozier, Florimon, etc.), because the expectation from all of them should have been no more than 'TBD', based on their lack of experience and track record. 3) To call our starting pitching "below average" is a slap in the face to the term "below average". If our starting staff is just "below average", then I'd like to know your definition of what a terrible starting staff would be.
  21. I disagree slightly. Every roster is going to have a 4th OF'er. In that case, you might as well have it be someone who is capable of playing all 3 OF spots. I get your argument that they should be asked to play CF so infrequently that it doesnt matter much, and I agree to an extent, but IMO what is the harm in simply having that 4th OF'er be someone who can play all 3 spots? It's not like Wilkin Ramirez is Thome esque at the plate, so you live with his defense. If you are going to have a 4th OF'er who doesn't hit much, he might as well be able to field a little bit.
  22. If it was a necessary move, I could buy all of the above 100%. But they could have just called up Gibson, and none of this would have been necessary. Whether the results have been there or not, they guy does have talent. With guys who have actual talent, I don't see any reason to bail on them before you absolutely have to. And of course he was going to get claimed. Alex Burnett got claimed off waivers for goodness sake. Guys with legit 5 tool talent don't go unclaimed, even if the results havent been there.
  23. A roster with not a single backup CF'er on it. (Ramirez is by default only, he's brutal). Just another fine example of the brilliant foresight and roster management by Terry Ryan that would lead to 99% confidence in his ability.
  24. Again though, at least he's also had some really good AB's. I would contend that there are guys on this team who have been putting up bad AB's all season long. And, I agree on the playing time issue. Once Gardy started refusing to play Arcia, TR really had no choice but to send him down so he could play, so I guess my beef is with Gardy and not Ryan.
