  1. Right, so they are hit and miss (like most talent evaluators in any line of business.), which is kind of my point. Arguing that the talent evaluators think he is something, so that automatically makes it so is not a great argument, IMO.
  2. And I didn't even mention trading JJ Hardy for a bag of beans.
  3. Yeah, IMO it is highly unlikely Morneau finishes over 20 HR's. He'd have to finish the year at a 30 HR/yr. pace to get to 21, which means he would have to return to his pre concussion self for 4 consecutive months, I just don't see that happening. He probably hits 12 to 15 max.
  4. I won't claim to know if Butera is or is not an elite defensive catcher, but aren't those the same talent evaluators who thought Nishi was a starting MLB shortstop, and who thought Matt Capps was an elite enough relief pitcher to trade a top prospect for AND forfeit a 1st round draft pick to keep?
  5. And he committed 41 errors in those 115 games. Of course Gardy doesn't mind putting Doumit out in RF, so it won't shock me if Collabello does see a start or 2 at 3B, but he shouldn't.
  6. Low Rider should be a distant 3rd behind Cisco Kid and Spill the Wine.
  7. I think we all knew it would only be a matter of time.
  8. The next 2 words I hear Morneau say will be the first 2 I have ever heard him say. Who knows, maybe he's different in the clubhouse, I guess none of us know.
  9. I like Bert, but I can certainly see why some people wouldn't. He has a few terms and or/ stories that he seems to feel the need to get in every game, if not multiple times per game. Perhaps he doesn't realize that some people watch 150 games every year, and have now heard story/term "x" about 1000 times now.
  10. Everything in this post is spot on. I'm pretty sure if you looked up the term "meathead" in the dictionary, you'd see Laudner's mug next to it.
  11. And this is the main problem with having Gardy in the last year of his contract. Gardy is coaching for his job, so he does what he thinks is best to win a ballgame, while Ryan cares more about development. It's a bad idea to have this situation on a rebuilding team, IMO. The manager either needs to be extended, or fired, so that he and GM can both be on the same page.
  12. I think Parm has shown that he doesn't really have anything more to learn in AAA. Sometimes you just find out that a guy is not an MLB caliber player. I'm not saying that is the case with Parmelee, but I don't think any time at AAA is going to do him any good. It's time to sink or swim at this level.
  13. I don't think anyone is suggesting that it's the only reason. I think its a fair question to ask if it played a part though.
  14. He started to put it together last year, as a 26 year old. To put that into perspective, Kyle Gibson is 25 years old, and he still hasn't thrown a pitch in the MLB because the Twins want to be patient with him. Where was the patience with Gomez? The Twins gave him 1 full season, as a 22 year old when most people thought he should be in AAA, then Gardy yanked him all over the place in limited action his second season. Combine that with his comments (he's not the first ex player to make those comments), and I think it becomes a valid question.
  15. Ryan was on Judd and Dubay today, and said Worley needs to work on 3 things to get back up. 1) Work ahead in count. 2) Throw breaking balls in fastball count 3) Keep the ball down. He also said that he wasn't that impressed with his shutout in AAA, that he got away with mistakes that he wouldn't in MLB, and had many of the same issues that caused him to get rocked up here. I thought that was a pretty candid and honest thing to hear from a GM, so I appreciate that.
  16. Ugh, and another Twins starter can't complete 5 innings. This is really starting to remind me of the days when we had the likes of Pat Maholmes, Willie Banks, LaTroy Hawkins and Eddie Guardado in our rotation. Those were some ugly times.
  17. And my whole point is, so what? Gibson would hardly be the first (or 1,000th) good prospect to come up and struggle. At that point you send him down, and tell him what he needs to work on (i.e. Arcia), or you keep him up and let him work through it here (i.e. Hicks). I don't quite understand the nonsense behind this, "nope, we can't call him up until we are absolutely sure that he'll stay up for good." Guys have 3 option years for a reason. There is no shame in going down to AAA if it doesn't work out. Even Trout went back down before he stuck for good.
  18. Is it possible that Benson's struggles were caused by the Twins trying to fit a square peg into a round hole and change his approach at the plate to fit the "Twins way"? Probably not, I know, but I couldn't help but think of this when I read the Gomez comments, and was reminded of the Hardy and Ortiz comments. Perhaps he goes to Texas and is told, "kid, stop trying to hit the ball the other way and just let 'er rip". Who knows if this will change his performance, but at this point it honestly would not shock me if it did.
  19. That now makes at least 3 former Twins who have publicly pointed out the Twins hitting "approach" as holding back their talents. Ortiz, Hardy, and Gomez. I have 2 questions. 1) If Gomez sustains his success, will the Twins realize that trying to force square pegs into round holes doesn't work out, and start to change their philosophy? Or are they too stubborn, and we are stuck with it barring major regime overhaul? 2) Could this same problem be contributing to the struggles of most of our young hitters on this roster? EDIT: Make that 3 questions. 3) Anyone think there is a possibility that Benson suffered from the same problem? Maybe the Twins tried to change who he was at the plate (go the other way, slap the ball on the ground, etc.), and it screwed up his swing? I will be interested to see what happens in Texas if they tell him to just go up there and pull the ball.
  20. Then don't trade him. Even with his liabilities, which people seem to love to point out, he is still a WAR positive player, making the league minimum.
  21. If you wait until July 1 to call up Gibson, then they might as well not even bother, as he'll only have about 30 to 40 innings left until his limit by then, if that.
  22. Have to look a little deeper than just ERA though. Keep in mind that guys like Slowey and Blackburn had brief success in the MLB too. I didn't think he would be THIS bad (and he's probably not), but those ERA's from Philly were not sustainable. Especially not in the AL.
  23. 1) He has exactly 0 swing and misses on 50 curveballs this year, so if he throws it more he's going to do even worse, not better. 2) He had an absurdly unsustainable K looking rate, which the league was bound to adjust to. That accounted for his decent K rate. And 3rd, everyone knows how I personally feel about Worley, but no, the experiment is not over, nor should it be as long as we have a historically bad pitching staff.
  24. That wasnt my point. My point was that people were saying he was blocked here. IMO we have to see a whole hell of a lot more from the likes of Hicks and Parm before we start claiming our OF is set.
