  1. You almost never see prospect for prospect trades. I know the Rangers and Cards discussed a Profar for Taveras trade this spring, but of course in the end it went no where. I'm sure there must have been a few, but off the top of my head I just can't recall any blockbuster prospect for prospect trades in recent history.
  2. What is your criteria for Andrus being worse than Florimon this year? Andrus has the higher OPS and the higher WAR (based on fangraphs, havent looked at BBR). Andrus is having a down year, but long term he's a much better player than Florimon.
  3. Johan Santana will not be pitching in 2014. He had this same surgery, and last time it took him 18 months to recover. Another 18 month recovery would put him out until October or November of 2014.
  4. I would guess he is speaking of Alex Meyer.
  5. Drew Butera brought back a decent prospect. If Drew Butera can bring back a decent prospect, just about anyone CAN.
  6. Which highly rated prospects are you referring to? It sounds like Sano is going to stick at 3B, at least in the short term. Our top 1B/corner OF/DH prospect is probably Max Kepler, who is a long way away, very raw, and not even a top 100 prospect.
  7. Morneau wouldn't cost anywhere near that amount to sign. He's a below average first baseman at this point. He'll likely sign a 1 year contract for around $3 to $4 million, with a team option for a 2nd year.
  8. Some guys are generational players who ARE good enough to be in the majors when they are 20 or 21 years old. Trout, Harper and Manny Machado seem to be doing just fine.
  9. A lot of Lincecum's downfall has been bad luck. His FIP was 4.18 last year, and is 3.48 this year. He's not quite the pitcher he was pre 2012, but IMO he's still a top of the rotation pitcher. His HR/FB rate has jumped, and his strand rate have dropped. Typically (not always) those are more SSS luck than causation due to diminished skills.
  10. Global warming must be worse than I thought, because the Cubs and Reds have both made splashes in the Cuban market and last time I checked neither Chicago or Cincinnati were warm weather cities.
  11. I know you are being sarcastic, but this trade would never happen. Not only would the O's never consider it, but it would be rejected by MLB. This type of scenario is exactly why any trade involving cash has to be approved by MLB, to keep teams from simply going out any buying all the best prospects with straight cash homey. Teams like the Yankees , Dodgers and Red Sox are already at a huge advantage being able to afford any FA they want, think of how bad it would be if they could theoretically go out and "buy" any prospect they wanted as well?
  12. If you get 6 years of Sano for $20 million then he will have been a pretty big disappointment.
  13. The same publication that had him 14 in the Dodgers organization (mayo) slotted him in at 13 in our system.
  14. With a career k/9 of 5.5, which has trended downward at every single level, it's pretty unlikely he ever contributes to the MLB club, would that be safe to assume?
  15. I'm not going to call anyone a bust after 800 PA's, even if its for a college position player at A ball, but he definitely needs to start figuring things out pretty soon.
  16. I get ripped everytime I say this, yet I'll say it again. I don't see May ever staying in the biggs as anything more than a 7th or 8th inning reliever, and even that I view as less than 50/50. I like the aggressiveness, so I'll never rip the trade very much, but I think Ryan should have held on to Revere for another season if the best offer he could find was Worley and May. And, yes, I took my lumps all spring long with my opinion of Worley, so NO, this is not hindsight.
  17. Johan Santana became the best pitcher in baseball for half a decade with that combo.
  18. There are plenty of players all over MLB who are 30 years old and still producing. One quick example would be Joe Mauer. You don't win with a roster made up exclusively of kids. It has to be a mix of kids, players right in their prime, and crafty veterans. Every team you mention has that mix, ESPECIALLY those Yankee clubs of the 90's, they were full of players 30 y.o.+.
  19. Wacha/Martinez don't even get a mention? That's the duo I'd take over all of them. (except Bundy/ Gausman, injury or no injury) I'd also take Wheeler/Syndergaard and Appel/McCullers over Meyer/Stewart. Surprised none of those duos get a mention.
  20. Is Gardy trolling us with his lineups? I can't figure out why Doumit is a clean up hitter, and Arcia is hitting way down with the likes of Colabello, Clete Thomas and Pedro Florimon? If the goal is to score runs, wouldnt it make sense to put your best hitters directly behind the guy who gets on base nearly half the time?
  21. 4 Dozier 2 Mauer DH Morneau 9 Doumit 5 Plouffe 7 Arcia 3 Colabello 8 Thomas 6 Florimon
  22. Ryan says the plan is to promote him to Fort Myers to finish out the season, pitch some winter ball, then decide where to assign him next spring from there. Twins like what they see in Pinto behind the plate | Star Tribune
  23. I'm going off Jonathan Mayo's rankings, in which case Meyer and Stewart are in the top 70. I wasn't aware that someone had them ranked both in the top 40. In that case you are probably correct.
  24. We can't hit the "Cuban lottery" if we don't play it. In order to have a chance to get ourselves a Chapman, Cespedes, or Puig, we are going to have to be willing to spend big money on a completely unproven commodity. If you are fine completely ignoring an avenue that has proven capable of providing legit superstar talent, that is fine, but I'm not. I'm with Ruesse, I want a Cuban!!
  25. Rosario is a nice prospect, but he is hardly a can't miss prospect. You can never have too many good prospects to throw at a position. Proclaiming 2B solved for the next decade would be a mistake, IMO.
