  1. Oh please god no lottery. Congrats NBA on being a circus act. I don't think that I have ever once watched an MLB game where I got the feeling that a team was intentionally trying to lose. Having a crappy team because you are rebuilding is not tanking, telling Mark Madsen to jack up 15 3 pointers is.
  2. Yeah, that's funny that anyone would dismiss an argument for either Sano or Buxton. I don't see how you can call an argument for either one wrong. My vote would be for Buxton, but I trust that the guys who see them on a daily basis will make the right call.
  3. Very true, which is what I used to try to caution against getting too excited over Parmelee during his scorching Sept. a couple of years ago. It should be more about getting them some MLB experience, IMO, not necessarily drawing any conclusions from the results.
  4. Why? It's meant to try to break up the DP, not to try to hurt anyone. If the MI isn't a moron, he won't ever get hurt. It's meant to cause you to rush your throw, drop the ball, etc., no baserunner expects the MI to just stand there and take it, hence Swisher's shock that Nishii didn't move out of the way. It's Nishii's fault for not knowing, and the Twins fault for not teaching him. The takeout slide is not dangerous if the MI reacts properly. Should you just stop running and concede the double play?
  5. Gardy never liked Hardy, from day 1. Perhaps they asked Gardy to watch film of Nishii, and Gardy said something like, "He can't be worse than Hardy, just pull the trigger." We don't know. Terry and him have always had a pretty good relationship so I can't imagine they intentionally kept him out of the loop.
  6. The slide was clean. Swisher was in the base path, hell he even touched 2nd base at the same time he was taking out Nishii. This is the way double plays have been broken up in America for 100 years. 7. This has been an issue for several years now, and I have yet to see any replacements among the medical staff. Perhaps changes have been made, but those type of moves don't get any press? I'm not sure. I thought for sure heads would have rolled after the whole "Bi Lateral Leg Weakness" season (Mauer was not the only odd injury situation that year, remember Kubel being 'day to day' with his foot, then missing 2 months), and yet as far as I can tell we are here 3+ years later, still dealing with constantly injuries and injury mismanagement (Scott Baker anyone?) and yet nobody has lost their job because of it.
  8. I could tell you why, but I've noticed that praising another team in the league is frowned upon here, so I won't. But, I don't think Gibson is/will be a bust. It's a lot to expect a guy coming off TJ to come right up and be great in his first go against MLB hitters. And, as some have pointed out in the other thread, a deeper look shows that he was doing some things well, which should lead to better results once he gets his control down.
  9. I don't hate Punto, but I could never get over him trying to score from 2nd base on an infield single in the playoffs vs. the Yankees, and being thrown out by about 65 feet. Possibly the most boneheaded baserunning mistake I've seen since this: [video=youtube;spx9ZeSYVTU]
  10. Does he have blue eyes? I know people laughed at this when Josh Hamilton discussed it, but it really is a legit medical thing. A small % (I think something like 8%) of blue eyed people have a condition that makes it very difficult to pick up the baseball during the daytime.
  11. Managers at every level have had their players backs for decades. The vast majority of them manage to do it without physically attacking someone on the field.
  12. Or he slots into the bullpen and Swarzak takes Gibson's start.
  13. Good stuff, thanks.
  14. LOL, 11 years later that video still hasn't gotten old. "How the hell can I make my teammates better by practicing?" HAHA.
  15. Because Gibson is not only possibly gassed coming off TJ, but he's also facing MLB hitters for the first time in his life. One or the other is difficult enough, let alone both at the same time. Also, I'm not really giving Gibson "a pass" and not Pelfrey. It's very likely that much of Pelfrey's struggles are due to fatigue as well. However, he's not a part of our future, like Gibson is, so I don't really care as much.
  16. I've yet to hear anyone confirm or deny that it was a dirty play at the plate. If he was blocking the plate, what is wrong with knocking him over? I thought that was the standard play.
  17. The thing I took away from tonights broadcast was, wow this is where TK really shines. To me, he's good but not great on the Twins broadcasts, but I found myself on the edge of my seat at times listening to him discuss player development. The Twins are lucky to have him in the organization, which, obviously is not breaking news.
  18. Actually he said that we were going to compete for the division, but who's counting?
  19. I disagree on #6. I think Plouffe needs a huge final 40 games of the season to save his job. He's regressed in a big way, IMO. His OPS is now below .700, and if it finishes the season there, that is going to be tough to digest, given his really bad defense. I hate to say it, because for some reason I've really always liked Plouffe, but the clock is ticking on his time here.
  20. Oh yeah, I won't debate that. I know guys DO win jobs based on ST numbers. I'm saying that they SHOULDN'T. Hopefully the Twins have learned their lesson in putting too much stock in a small sample size of AB's that take place in completely different conditions, and against completely different competition than actual MLB games. Perhaps the Twins were planning to give Hicks the job regardless of his performance, and the ST numbers just made that an easy sell so they wen't with it. But, that is beside the point, my point is that ST numbers don't necessarily translate to MLB performance. I believe last ST it was Nick Blackburn that was putting up numbers that had everyone talking.
  21. By "ace", I didn't mean simply the best pitcher on your respective team. His upside is Brad Radke, in that he might be your #1 pitcher, but ideally he shouldn't be. Ideally he should be #2 or even #3 if you have a good staff.
  22. I think that would be a gross overreaction. I'm putting little, if any stock into the numbers of this relatively SSS, considering ALL the factors. P.S. For what it's worth, up until today his xFIP wasn't terrible, so I'm holding out hope that he did in fact come up here throwing well, and maybe had a little bit of bad luck which then progressed into fatigue.
  23. Ah (bleep), I (bleep)ed it all up. Let's try this (bleep) again. -Bert
  24. So it's like listening to KS95? P.S. I don't listen to that garbage, but my wife keeps it on in the kitchen.
