  1. Shouldn't you be comparing players with a similar OBP through A+, rather than a similar OBP in a down season at MLB level? Seems like apples to race cars to me.
  2. Thanks for the update Jeremy. I avoid Twitter like the plague, so I guess I missed out on the updates. Glad to hear there was no setback or that it wasn't something more severe that they were hiding.
  3. Actually, yes, May and Meyer are "old" prospects. "Old" is a relative term, and relative to when other top prospects tend to debut, they absolutely are getting on the "old" side. Debating whether it is good or bad to allow your top prospects to become "old" (again, relative to their peers) is a great debate, but it doesn't change the fact that they are getting quite old for such high prospects, particularly Meyer, as he is a much more highly regarded spec.
  4. A .220 BA, with very few walks and 25 HR's would be a pretty awful hitter. That would be like Adam Dunn without the OBP and half the power. Yikes.
  5. Pretty sure I neither griped nor got upset, but simply asked if there were any updates or setbacks as I couldn't find anything reported anywhere.
  6. Meant at the time he was placed on the DL.
  7. The post I quoted came AFTER he was put on the DL.
  8. A poster who is supposed to be pretty plugged in had this to say at the time of the injury: Calm down everyone. I talked to a PWDK of the injury, it's very minor (if it's even anything at all). I think the Twins just want to manage his innings and get him lined up to be ready to pitch in the Futures Game (on the 13th). He's eligible to come off (and pitch) on 7/3 and pitch again on 7/8. That puts him on full-rest at Target Field. There is no concern that Trevor May won't be able to pitch on 7/13. Not even a little bit. Curious if there was some kind of set back or something, as "not even a little bit of concern" quickly turned into not pitching 7/3 or 7/8 or in the futures game?
  9. I'd say it's probably a "surprise" to everyone who earlier in the year told me to, "settle down, he WILL be up soon after the Super 2 cutoff....". Oops.
  10. The package he just suggested is basically the equivalent of Meyer, Berrios, Thorpe and Turner. You'd be happy if the Twins traded all those guys for 1 good, but not elite player? I think you are overvaluing Dozier.
  11. Maybe i'm missing something, but if its not visible from the home plate angle, wouldn't it be pretty much useless to the hitter, since that is the angle the hitter is seeing from when he's batting?
  12. I'm scanning my posts to see where I said anything was certain, and yep, it's not there. I'm quite sure i used the word "probably", and also "I have a feeling". Both, by definition, far from "certain".
  13. Yes, most people on TD. If you disagree, then I love your optimism and I get on my hands and knees praying that you are right. Sadly though, I have a feeling that when next March rolls around Pelfrey will be all but penciled in as a lock for the rotation. We'll hear about how his arm feels as good as it ever has, he's looked amazing in bullpen sessions, etc., etc.
  14. I agree that the Twins are trying to rebuild, but that they are doing it a completely different way than the Cubs. The Twins following the Cubs blueprint would be to trade Suzuki, Mauer, Perkins, Hughes, Willingham, Correia, and possibly even Dozier. Obviously, we all know that isn't going to happen here. I'm not going to try to predict which way is "better", time will tell us that one in a few years. Though, personally, I like the Cubs version better. Like us, they had one of the better farm systems. But, while we have been content to add to it with our high draft picks and a few international signings, they are going to throw as many noodles at the wall as they can, knowing that not all of them will stick. On paper (again, we'll see in a few years how it works out), the Cubs now have by and far the best farm in baseball, and with the addition of Russell, it may be the most loaded farm I have seen in all of my years.
  15. Considering they just got the A's to give them the #11 prospect in baseball for a less valuable player than Castro, that would probably eliminate every spec except Buxton and Sano for the centerpiece of a trade. And, considering that they already have an absurd amount of elite IF prospects, that would lead me to believe that Buxton would be their asking price. No thanks. As much as I'd love to rebuild around Castro at a premium position like SS, Buxton to me is pretty much untouchable.
  16. That is a nice theory, but most people have acknowledged that Pelfrey will probably get every possible opportunity at rotation spot next Spring, despite doing absolutely nothing to deserve it. So in practice, bad signings do in fact block potentially better players from being added to the roster.
  17. How did the timeline for Meyer get pushed back from, don't worry he'll be up sometime in June, to now he might have a chance to win a job next Spring? Because he's only pitching really well at AAA, instead of dominating? The guy will be 25 years old by then, and is a top 25 prospect. It's time to cut the cord and see if he can pitch or not. I'm sorry but if Meyer is healthy next Spring, and isn't all but guaranteed a rotation spot, on a supposed rebuilding team, which will likely be coming off 4 consecutive 90+ (or in this years case, at least 85+) loss seasons, then it will be starting to border on bizarre.
  18. It's Twins Minor League Talk, not Twins Prospect Talk. I think that is an important distinction. I like reading about how the guys on the farm did, even when it's guys that will never contribute to the big club.
  19. Which part is on his teammates? Mauer has had 87 PA's with RISP, and 155 PA's with men on base. Miguel Cabrera has had 95 PA's with RISP, and 142 PA's with men on base. Jose Abreu has had 82 PA's with RISP, and 144 PA's with men on base. Mauer is having comparable opportunities as many of the AL RBI leaders, he just isn't driving them in. There have been years where the "he's not getting RBI opportunities" argument has held water, this year it doesn't.
  20. While I can agree with the "you have to wait until they are ready" premise on promoting prospects, I think some times you have to be aggressive, and can't always wait until you are 100% sure they are ready. I doubt Baltimore was 100% sure that Machado was ready to be called up at such a young age. I doubt that Miami was 100% sure that Fernandez was ready to be called up. The same could be said for a bunch of other prospects. I disagree with the crowd that says, "don't call them up until they are ready to stick". These guys have 3 options for a reason. Now, with Hicks I think it might have hurt him, but in that case I think the Twins waited far too long to send him back down. But to me there is nothing wrong with promoting a guy for a month, then send him back if he's not ready. Remember, Mike Trout came up for a few weeks the year before his breakout rookie season, and struggled pretty badly. Clearly it didn't hurt his long term development.
  21. I hate to be Debbie Downer, but while he is getting a lot of hits over the last 10 games, they are nearly all singles. Just 1 XBH and 0 walks. I guess to me, if you get stretches like that from a guy like Danny Santana or Pedro Florimon you take any hits you can get, but for a corner OF/1B type who won't steal any bases, I think I'd like to see some more XBH's, especially during one of his hot streaks. EDIT: OK, disregard this entire post, apparently I have a blind spot on my bbref lookup skills. Parm has 4 doubles, that is what I like to see.
  22. No way on Ethier, unless the Dodgers are willing to eat at least 75% of that contract.
  23. Excellent post, all around.
  24. Pretty sure I heard this when Buxton got hurt.......in March.
  25. Carew wasnt promoted from A ball (though it was the highest level he reached)' date=' he was promoted [b']FROM[/b] instructional league.
