  1. Sure, like I said, case by case basis. Assigning one guy to only pitch in the 9th inning is nonsensical and arbitrary. You need to get 27 outs to win a game. I think the new staff is smart enough not to assign those outs before they know the context of them. The only surprising part to me is that it took this long for coaching staffs to realize it. Again, quite often the best use of Kimbrel will be the 9th inning, that's fine. But if Kimbrel insists on being locked in to a rigid "closer" role, then I say thanks but no thanks.
  2. I want guys used where they can be most valuable on a case by case basis. I'm sure that will often be the 9th inning for Kimbrel, but often times he'd be more valuable coming in earlier. If Kimbrel cares more about his personal counting stats more than the team, then I have zero interest in him.
  3. My wife wanted to watch this, and I'm so glad we did. Just finished seasons 1 and 2, it's masterful. It's delightful, and funny and I love the masterful job they did making it feel like the late 50's. Although I wasn't alive then, so I guess I wouldn't know how authentic it is in that regard. Brosnahan is incredible. I think I'm legitimately in love with her character, if that's possible. Tony Shaloub is perfectly cast, and steals many scenes. Alex Borstein is awesome in this. I highly recommend this to everyone. At first glance it may not look like your type of show. That was my mistake the many times I scrolled past it. The first few episodes, while good, everyone seems to be getting a feel for their characters. But, as Mrs. Maisel gains confidence in the show, so too do the actors and writers, and by the end of season 2 it's television at it's finest. I honestly can't believe how much I love this show, I find myself daydreaming about the characters throughout the day, which is the hallmark of truly great art. Go see it.
  4. MLB decided they want a popularity contest, not a true all star game. Therefore, by definition there are no snubs. I would prefer a true all star game, but that is probably never coming back.
  5. I shudder at the thought of speculation and generalization on an internet fan forum.
  6. Verbal contracts are not binding until there is an exchange of value. For example, if I say I'll pay you to mow my lawn, then- before you start mowing my lawn, and before I've paid you- I say, "nevermind, I decided to do it myself", then there is no breach of contract. If I've already paid you though, or you've already mowed my lawn, then the verbal contract is binding. This is why Anthony Barr is not a Jet. They reached a verbal agreement, but there was never an exchange of value, so Barr was able to back out. Until the Twins give the draftee money, or until the draftee shows up and starts engaging baseball activities for the Twins, then the verbal agreement is not legally binding whatsoever.
  7. There is a reason the language, "the Twins and 3rd round pick X have reached an agreement" is typically what you see reported. I think teams typically agree to terms with many of their picks, but don't actually ink the contracts until they are sure they have all their ducks in a row.
  8. The Pohlad's aren't authorizing a $189 million payroll, which is what adding Scherzer AND Strasburg would bring us to.
  9. I'm confused. Wells is having Tommy John surgery next week... but he should be back this year? Is it his non throwing elbow?
  10. Hopefully it's just the 'Chicken Little' side of me, but when I see "shoulder injury" and "pitcher" in the same sentence, I can't help but think, best of luck in whatever you replace baseball with young man.
  11. I agree with the sentiment that it's probably easier to get a kid to completely buy in to a swing overhaul after you let theirs fail on it's own.
  12. See above, it was worded poorly on my part. Just meant you shouldn't need to include another of Kirrillof or Graterol in addition to Lewis.
  13. I didn't mean strictly 1 for 1, though I can see how it was written that way. I meant we shouldn't have to give up another of our big 3 in addition to Lewis.
  14. I don't agree with that asking price for Scherzer. I'd think Royce Lewis alone would get it done 100 times out of 100.
  15. Right, but then the outcome is that he stays put, not that someone pays Sale price for him. The Kia dealership isn't obligated to sell me anything, but the result of them demanding Lamborghini money for a Sorrento is that they don't sell the Sorrento.
  16. According to bbref, the following are his recorded appearances in national top 100 lists: Baseball America: 2017: #99 2018: #97 MLB Pipeline: 2017: #92 2018: #78 Edit: Saw your link. Bbref must only show preseason rankings.
  17. Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you were arguing the opposite of what you actually are. My mistake.
  18. Verlander had a full no trade clause. He didn't seem interested in going anywhere else but Houston. Tough to squeeze max value from a single bidder.
  19. Oops, embarrassing user error. Bbref was only showing me through June for some reason. I'd quibble with a complete game, 11k,0bb,3 er game being mediocre though.
  20. Scherzer gave up 3+ earned runs exactly once, and went less than 6 innings exactly once. Might be time to recheck your math.
  21. I think you are using far too many pitchers as "aces" if that's what your data shows. The first ace I thought to pull up was Max Scherzer, and his results last year were 16 good starts to 1 clunker, or 94%.
