Outman is a very unfortunate name for a baseball player. But maybe he's the new face of the franchise.- 301 replies

The Twins Finally Picked a Lane
Nshore replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Another reason why they need to turn the page on Falvey and Baldelli is the approach of the hitters. Probably due to the "Statistics God", driving up the starting pitchers' pitch counts seems to be as important as getting a hit. Seeing lots of pitches and striking out is a "good at bat". No, a good at bat is putting a dent in the outfield wall with a line drive. Wallner is as strong a player as they've had, and he should be a knuckle dragging Wallbanger striking fear into the hearts of pitchers. Instead, he's letting strikes go by and trying to coax a walk like a slap hitting lightweight.- 301 replies

The Twins Finally Picked a Lane
Nshore replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The new owner's first step should be to finish the rebuild and fire Falvey and Baldelli. Falvey's record on first round draft choices alone is abysmal. And Baldelli 's teams are marked by periods of low energy and indifference. Contrast the Twins with the Boston Red Sox who were just here. The Red Sox are athletic and high energy- stealing bases and running all over the place. Maybe the new era stat driven game approach doesn't favor the aggressive speed game. But the energy and focus required for bunting, stealing, hit and run carries over to every aspect of the game.- 301 replies

Fans who purchased season tickets did so with the assumption that the Twins would field a full Major League roster for the whole season. That's not what they're going to get for the next 2 solid months. In a way it's fraud.

The Pohlads are purring like contented kittens.

Good tickets are still available for the stretch run.

I thought Major League baseball prohibited this kind of wholesale gutting of a team.

Red Sox 13, Twins 1: Is This Selling?
Nshore replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I haven't been a Pohlad basher BUT it does feel like they're trashing the place before slamming the exit door shut - which is particularly galling since taxpayers have financed the stadium and enhanced the value of their investment - probably by hundreds of millions of dollars.- 60 replies

It seems like just yesterday I was yelling "Let's Go Twins" with a packed Target Field crowd while they beat the Blue Jays in the playoffs. It's shocking how fast it has all fallen apart to the point of back filling positions with anybody they can find.

That was my question. Unless they're going to move Ryan too, and feel they won't even need a closer for a couple years.

Twins Choose Savings Over Substance in Paddack Trade
Nshore replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like the trade. The Twins thought so little of Paddock's future that they were willing to trade him within the division, which says something. And they made an attempt to fill a glaring need in the organization. All kinds of nefarious motivations can be projected onto the owners, but we really don't know what goes on behind the scenes. On paper the trade makes perfect sense. Extra credit for shedding Dobnak.- 126 replies

Houston May Want to Trade For Correa - Should We Do It?
Nshore commented on LA Vikes Fan's blog entry in LA Vikes Fan
If they have an opportunity to move Correa they should take it. Put Lee at SS and move on. Having two brittle players like Buxton and Correa as the core of the team is never going to work. Buxton has been better this year, but that's an exception. They're not getting any younger and Correa's production is already declining. -
Louis Varland Has Got That Closer In Him
Nshore replied to Peter Labuza's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Baseball's a tough business. They work so hard to put together a quality pen, and the second they achieve it, they have to get to work dismantling it. -
I know this is a little off the subject, but they wouldn't have to buy or sell if they could get more out of their current hitters. Their hitters seem unbelievably passive. They must lead the league in taking strike one down the middle. In the Bomba years, they were much more aggressive early in the count. I don't know if the current approach is by incompetent design, or just lack of talent. That's my rant for the day.

Whether it's Ryan or other players, there probably will be major changes. They just lost 2 of 3 to the lowly Rockies, and now they look equally disinterested against the lowly Nationals. When they had Gray, Lopez, and Ryan at the top of the rotation they could compete. But owners/management are unwilling or unable to sustain that level of talent.
-
Pitching is the name of the game, and Ryan, Jax, and Duran are cornerstone pieces of a winner. No way should they be traded away for suspects, I mean prospects. It may sound crazy, but I think they still have a chance to squeak into the playoffs. Keaschall is the type of player, once they get him back, that may give the whole line up a spark. Falvey should do nothing at the trade deadline.

Tough Decision Time for the Twins
Nshore replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
More important than the AAA numbers for Wallner is whether he has shown enough that indicates he would have at least some sort of chance against Major League off speed stuff. He was totally helpless when sent down.- 77 replies
