  1. 2013 Roster (not in any particular order): Bullpen: Burton Perkins Duensing Swarzak Guerra Slama Burnett Starting Pitching: Scott Diamond Hendriks Blackburn P.J. Walters (?)/ FA Pitcher FA Pitcher Starting Lineup: Span Revere Mauer Morneau Willingham Doumit Plouffe Dozier Carroll Bench: Wilkin Ramirez Butera Mastroianni Parmelee Valencia could be in this lineup if he figures things out on offense and defense. I am assuming that the Twins trade Liriano and Pavano if they can get their trade values up enough. However, it is unlikely that the Twins will be able to get Pavano's value up enough to get anything for him when he returns from his injury, and they might just keep him through the season and then let him go. I am assuming that the Twins finally realize that they have gold in the minors in the form of Slama and Guerra, which means they could also trade a few relievers for a couple of prospects. The Twins could also give Carroll a permanent position if they trade Span, move Revere from RF to CF, put Plouffe in RF, and put Carroll in 3B.
  2. I have to disagree that Carroll is on the bench. Unless Valencia seriously improves, they are going to leave him in AAA until he figures things out. I also think that the closer's job will Perkins' to lose. I also think that the Twins #5 pitcher next year might be Walters, but I wouldn't count on it. Also, you seem to be forgetting that the Twins have Blackburn under contract through next year.
  3. I have to agree with what you said in your 3rd to last paragraph, where the Twins bats won't always be able to overcome their lack of solid pitching. However, the improvement (emergence, even) of players like Plouffe and Revere into their element are starting to make me hopeful for next year if the Twins can make some good moves over the offseason. This would include adding a solid FA pitcher to complement Diamond and Hendriks, if his success in AAA translates to the Majors. They should also resign Doumit to a multi-year deal because he has provided needed flexibility for the field and gives Gardy another catcher as well as an outfielder and pinch-hitter. If they can get something good for Span, then they should, but ONLY if Valencia figures things out in AAA or they find another solid 3B guy, perhaps in the Span deal. If they do, the Twins would have a good (or at least solid) 3B and they could give Plouffe a solid, and hopefully permanent starting position out in RF and shift Revere over to CF, where he truly belongs. With the bullpen depth that the Twins have recently come into, if they could find a good deal for one of them, then they should. Capps should be easy to deal if he keeps pitching well. However, they should hang onto Burton, Perkins, and Burnett, because they can be the anchors for out bullpen for years to come.
  4. heheheheheheheheh, one of the few moves Smith made that is paying %$^%^& dividends!
  5. slama is indeed on the DL, but once he comes off, it will be him and Guerra fighting for a spot up with the big club.
  6. I agree with what was said on the airwaves after the postgame show today was over; the Twins have until the All-Star Break to show whether we should be buyers or sellers. After seeing the game today, I am thinking sellers, but the Twins could prove me wrong if they keep winning series.
  7. I think the reason that Walters will be able to stay in the majors is because he has such great variations in mph between his pitches. Against the first Cubs hitter, he had his fastball at 89 and his offspeed stuff at 73.
  8. With the hype being given to Bruno's ability to see problems in swings, it wouldn't hurt to send him down to get a little more seasoning, after all, his success at the plate is only recently developed.
  9. If only he could get through to Valencia and Hicks (and tell Hicks to stop trying to be a switch-hitter), the Twins could have two impact players up in the bigs right now so we wouldn't have to watch Trever Plouffe out in the field (only said that because I was at a game last year where he made 2 horrible throwing errors 2 innings in a row.)
  10. I think Campanella could have replaced any of the last three on this list except for Johnny Bench.
  11. I agree with Jim Souhan who is saying that they shouldn't trade Carroll, Willingham, Burton, Perkins, and Mauer, because they are all guys that the Twins can build around, especially Burton, Perkins, and Mauer. He does suggest trading Capps, Liriano, Span (but not because the Twins have outfield depth, like he says), Pavano, and Doumit (if they can't get a long-term deal done). These five guys could get some legit prospects if they do well enough to build their value before the deadline (especially Liriano, who the Twins could want back next year if they could make a deal with him in the offseason if they feel he is worth it.)
  12. Why have the Twins not done any signings? On MLB Trade Rumors, there are plenty of announcements of other teams coming to agreements with their picks, but I have heard nothing about the Twins working on signing their picks.
  13. We all thought Slama would be the next RP brought up for his injury
  14. Back when the events in Moneyball took place, the Twins won a lot of games with one of the smallest payrolls in the game. That was also the year of the Twins becoming relevant to the AL Central again.
  15. Unless the players the Twins are drafting are college seniors, you are probably right.
  16. Just like the best pitcher the Twins currently have. Who is that again? Oh yeah, its Glen Perkins, WHO WAS A STARTER coughcoughcoughcoughcough and is now a reliever who is making a killing
  17. I think this is where the Twins truly show why they were considered for the team to be featured in Moneyball, because they have done so well drafting in the later rounds, and have proven that there is a point to having these late rounds.
  18. I agree with everyone who has said that he 1) Shouldn't be converted to being a pitcher and 2) He and the Twins should give up on him switch-hitting, because from what I have read is that he rakes on the right side and is not very good on the left side.
  19. Does anyone want to give any rankings for the guys that were drafted today?
  20. That is the problem, and if the Twins go too far over trying to sign this guy, I believe that it eats into the amount we have to spend on the Top 10 Round Picks. So it might be smarter for the Twins, if they see signability issues with the kid, to let him go back to college for his senior year and then take him with a higher pick next year, where they can spend more than $100,000 on him.
  21. Fair enough. For people who have been complaining about Pavano, this is pretty much how he has survived as well.
  22. Observations from today: The Twins start and end the day selecting a LHP out of Georgia, taking a total of 11 pitchers, a RF, a C, a 2B, and a CF. The Twins haven't taken a pick out of either the Northwest or the Midwest. Also, with their first 18 selections, the Twins took 13 pitchers, including 9 RHP. The Twins took a crapload of pitching today
  23. in the 15th and last round of the day, the Twins take Jarret Leverett, a LHP out of Georgia Southern, GA.
  24. They already grabbed a C, and I guess that they haven't seen anyone that was on their boards as a 3b that they want to draft yet. That's too bad about Oakes, although middle of the 10th round was about where the scouts were putting where he would be drafted. Twins seem to be staying away from drafting people from Minnesota this year.
