  1. The roast is the one I just ate. I'll show myself out.
  2. Anyone know the last time we swept a 4 gamer?
  3. And "stomach candy" just seems redundant.
  4. I laughed out loud when I read this.
  5. The last time I thought I smelled a sweep we got crushed, so all I officially smell right now is my wife's venison roast.
  6. Can't believe everyone isn't calling for Gardy's head for letting Pelfrey pitch the 6th in a close game. I mean that's crazy right? He's already given up 2 hits! Bench his azz and just have Perkins pitch the last 4 innings already!
  7. Pretty sure it was Ryan on the grassy knoll too, right? Regardless of what you believe, give Ryan a break, he saw some messed up stuff at Roswell in '47. That kind of thing sticks with you and forces you to make the worst baseball decisions in the history of the game time, after time, after time. So says the brain trust that is the TD message board anyway.
  8. I liked the idea of adding Borbon for depth and possible fill in duty, but I don't think the Twins ever had the option of claiming him? Or am I remembering that wrong?
  9. He's having a great year at the plate, but I don't know if I'd call him a viable CF option, regardless of where he's played at AAA this year. I'd put him on par with Coloballo, a nice bench bat that can be used to spot start when needed.
  10. 1) Disagree. First, I already spoke about options in AAA that were upgrades over what we threw out there in the first quarter of the season. Second, I don't care what the stat lines say, raw numbers don't make a Joe Mauer, so let's forget the fallacy that our starters turn everyone into an All-Star hitter. It's much more likely upon breakdown that we are just letting the good hitters do that much better against us and still keeping the scrubs in check. 2) Yes, Parm, Plouffe, Dozier and of course Hicks are all on the list. Just because they're green doesn't mean they don't have reasonable expectations. Add in Hammer's struggles and Morneau's power issues and there is a significant case here. 3) Fine, call them junk, call them garbage, call them whatever makes you feel better. The point is that with the pitchers we have on the major league roster and in AAA, expected hitting which we didn't get, and a great bullpen we should have played .500 ball this year (and we still can). How can you even argue against this? .500 ball isn't success, it's mediocrity. No one is claiming a rousing franchise success, only what has been/could have been a nice step towards the future and a much better product to watch on the field than the last two years.
  11. In what way does '27 Yankees equate to .500 in an average division? No one is claiming we are an offensive powerhouse, simply that it was reasonable to expect better offensive numbers from a variety of guys in our lineup. Not All-Star numbers, just a little better than we have gotten so far. Slightly better than middle of the pack offense + below average starters + above average bullpen = .500 baseball.
  12. Well, the bullpen is just good. Correia was always going to regress to the mean, but we have replacement options (Deduno, Walters, Gibson) that would have kept our starting staff ducktaped together. IF the hitters had progressed and performed as anticipated we could have run at .500 for the year.
  13. None of this is unrealistic, and we would still be .500 if it had all happened. Very few Twins fans (even the die-hard pessimests on this message board) would be complaining if we were .500 right now.
  14. Maybe their just handling him with kid gloves because he is certifiably injury prone? Again, I've said already that I'm salivating to see Gibson called up, but is it really a live or die decision that needs to be dissected if the team calls up Walters first?
  15. I'm all about putting guys in positions to succeed, but if we send Arcia down does he get the same level of scrutiny as he did in the majors? Would he even have to adjust to AAA pitchers trying to pitch to his weaknesses? Again, let's put these guys in the best place to learn, but might that not be the majors at this point in their careers?
  16. Come on guys, except for his 1st round pedigree, what has Gibson done that Walters hasn't at this point? I want to see Gibson up to stay with the Twins so bad I can taste it, but let's not disrespect Walters in the process. Money and service time likely have nothing to do with it. Walters was just their choice right now, due to performance or rotation schedule I have no idea, but don't jump on the conspiracy bandwagon.
  17. I'm curious why I don't see more people screaming for Colabello to be called up? The guy has raked consistently all year, is approaching .350 and an OPS north of 1.000. Does the organization think he's one of those AAAA guys who will mash in AAA but struggle in the majors, or what is the holdup? I've appreciated what Ramirez has contributed in limited playing time, and I don't want Arcia moving anywhere, but we have to do something.
  18. Is it just me or could we solve several problems at once by moving Hernandez to the pen and sending down Fein? Hernandez as another lefty specialist would only help our bullpen, and Fein has an ERA north of 4 now I believe?
  19. Series WIN! Series WIN! Series WIN!
  20. No way he's embarrassed, he's jacked up! I hate to say I told you all so...ok, so I love to say it, but that is why you let these guys work things out instead of panicking and running them back down to AAA.
  21. A 6 man rotation doesn't make sense. If you pitching staff needs help, you have to bite the bullet, drop a bench bat, and add a middle reliever to the pen. I am intrigued by the "starter by committee" idea, in fact I've thought about it several times myself. Imagine the nightmare the opposing catcher would have in their game prep.
  22. I just naturally assumed he was trying to drive the ball more this year and that resulted in more doubles and strikeouts? His doubles this year seem much more powerful than in the past. How much actual average does the 70 points of BABIP equate to? Can't be much more than 30 right? Which would still put him at .314. At any rate, I think pitchers will adjust and we'll go back to seeing a 5-5 day with 5 singles
  23. I think this article makes an excellent point. When you have had success in the past you expect to win in the present and future. When you expect, or visualize, a result, you are much closer to actualizing it. This is basic human nature 101. I believe our minor league success will continue up to the majors just like it did in the late 90s. When those assets start having major league success, the FO will assess any glaring holes and, then we will fill those holes in free agency. That is the correct, ficsally responsibile way to build a championship caliber baseball team. Not throwing money at a dartboard on the wall every offseason and seeing what sticks.
  24. Enjoy it man. Maybe you'll get to see Arcia with a game winning late inning pinch hit walkoff homerun?
