  1. On a cheerier note, Bucholtz just hit 60 pitches already.
  2. Ditto that. I can just picture her standing over my unconscience body with a broken beer bottle in her hand and a snarl on her face.
  3. Yep, next year we put up a 5 spot in that inning. Arcia still should have had a better at bat though
  4. Bring on the Bucholtz conspiracy theorists. I hope we hit him hard all night and Morris calls a press conference and says "See??? Look!!!"
  5. I don't think we are really disagreeing on much here. I also think that any real ear-chewin or whatever should absolutely for private. But I also think there is nothing wrong with giving a frank assessment of what he feels happened on a given play. "Plouffe was back too far." It's not even really a criticism necessarily. I would expect Gardy to do the same if he or someone on his staff made a mistake as well; "I left Correia in a batter too long..." "Vavra shouldn't have sent the runner there." Et cetera. I hate when managers engage in double speak or make cliched remarks that tell us little. You can't pick on a guy, don't embaress him, but if I were in Plouffe's position right now I wouldn't feel that Gardy did anything out of line. In fact I'd stand up and say, "No, Gardy is sugar-coating it, I screwed up bad and it ended up costing us."
  6. This group and the early 80s group are the best in my opinion. But really, it is not hard to replenish a talent pool when you have a bad team for several years. The true mark of success is when you have a consistently talented major league team AND still manage to field a nice crop of prospects across the minor league board. Let's see if the Twins can keep their minor leagues stocked as we become better and better over the next few years.
  7. Mike I wasn't calling you or anyone in particular out, although I can see why you might think so since you started this thead. I was referring to a generally negative attitude I often see on his site re: the coaching and FO staff. As far as "insignificant" I didn't mean the particular bunt play was insignificant, I meant what Gardy said in his interview was (a topic that became a focal point for the thread).
  8. Flipping a burger? Do you not know what retail is? Of course you don't, you can't even spell or write complete sentences.
  9. Funny, I was just wondering why so many people on this site feel the need to trash the coaching staff, front office, etc for relatively insignificant reasons. I guess some people just need to tear down others to make themselves feel better.
  10. Wrong. Refusing to acknowledge a mistake passively accepts it, even if it's just in the public's mind. And if he ignores the question that reporter asked, then there would be many on this site who would bash him for not dealing with Plouff's mistake.
  11. You are absolutely correct. Gardy isn't spouting garbage like..."That idiot Plouffe, cost us the game with his bonehead move.." He simply said "Yeah, Plouffe was back too far on that one." Pure, simple statement of fact. As a manager myself (retail, not baseball) I can professionally attest to the importance of honest, respectful candor. You don't ignore things, you don't sugar coat things, you politely but firmly tell it like it is. And for those of you complaining about Gardy saying this in a press conference, remember that we're talking about entertainer-athletes. By their very nature they are in the public eye. I gaurentee Gardy or someone on his staff said something much more pointed and direct to Plouffe in private.
  12. I was thinking something along these lines as well, but you put the image in my head and it made me laugh out loud
  13. Well said. However, I take small issue with a few of your comments. The goal is indeed to win the World Series every year. That is a given. But the EXPECTATION should never be more than a playoff birth. Anything more is what I used to call "Yankee arrogance." I expect my Twins to field a team that can consistently make the playoffs and give themselves the opportunity to achieve their goal of winning the World Series. Second, no on would dispute Gardy's relative lack of success in the playoff. However, let's remember how flawed many of those playoff teams were. I also don't think it's entirely fair to view Gardy as a static entity over the course of his managing career. Trouble managing a team to a win in 2006 doesn't necessarily translate to continued lack of success 7 years later. For the record I think Gardy has done a very good job this year. All that said, I find myself grudgingly coming around to the "fresh eyes" argument. I still don't want Gardy fired, but I would no longer be upset if the team went in a new (intelligent) direction.
  14. I agree, I'd like to see Deduno up with the club as well. Worley can be a contributer for years, but he has to get it together first.
  15. I like Pelfrey very much, but he just isn't performing at the major league level right now. It's time to give Gibson an extended look up north.
  16. Sorry, I can't agree with any of the posts on this thread. Pelfrey finished with 90 pitches, which means he went into the 6th inning with less than 80. I know he hasn't pitched well all year, but HE IS YOUR STARTING PITCHER. If you're going to punt on him before 80 pitches then why even let him start at all? Why not just let the bullpen handle this whole game? Hell, why not let the bullpen handle EVERY game? Fielder is a tough out, but it's absolutely not unrealistic to expect Pelfrey to get a flyball out or even a double play ball. Good managers make the best decisions they can with the information they have available. Now the Twins have more information that tells them that Pelfrey might not be able to pitch in the majors right now. Don't blame Gardy for the actual result, BLAME PELFREY. It is amazing how many people trot out their hindsight goggles and crush Gardy every time the opposing team hits a clutch homerun. Newsflash, every team in the majors will hit clutch homeruns at some point this year, including the Twins. Do we expect all those managers to have the clarvoyance to predict the outcome and go to the pen, especially if their starter has less than 80 pitches? Get real.
  17. Those 'good' stretches by bad pitchers almost invariably come against a run of weak hitting competition. Correia has faced some good hitting teams this year and has maintained his consistently strong start throughout. LOB% is a terrible stat in my opinion. HR% can have as much to do with a ballpark as with the pitcher.
  18. Great W! Pitching has been wonderful in this series, Texas is no slouch of a lineup. If Mauer wasn't slumping we could be in position to win this series, but as it is I would love to see us split tomorrow.
  19. Seriously, were all 4 of those pitches to Pierzynski strikes?
