  1. Umm, I think it's ok for a business to earn as much profit as they want. If you don't like the product, don't buy it. Where does this sense of entitlement come from? Moderators, going to delete this post as well?
  2. Agreed. Gilmartin has plenty of talent. Maybe not high end, #1 ace talent, but what are there like a dozen of those men in all the world at any given time? Gilmartin was a nice get for an extraneous piece (Dumit).
  3. Then why not just give him a MLB contract? Making sure they get more for Dumit? I guess that makes sense.
  4. He can easily hit those numbers, even after a year away from MLB. And yes, that would be a boost to the offense, sorry Flori. However, his 2nd rate defense doesn't compare to Pedro's, so maybe it would be a wash? I don't know.
  5. Arcia, Hicks, Flori, Plouffer, Parm, Pinto. 1 or 2 out of 6 seems like aiming low to me. How about 3-4, that still seems reasonable?
  6. As well he should. The selection process is a complete farce. If I had a vote I would have done the same thing. Why not give the guy something to put up on his den wall?
  7. I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
  8. Correia could be moved within a week for a mid level prospect. Exchanging out Correia and adding Garza makes our rotation above average. With an above average pen we are looking mighty solid on that side of the ball. I doubt it will happen, though.
  9. An international draft is definitely the way to go. In the short term, were does the money from the luxury tax go? If it is distributed to the other teams, then I say let the stupid Yankees overpay and give us more money to be more competitive. I don't think any team owns international markets per se, I have been happy with how the Twins have scouted and signed a number of young guys over the past several years. But again, a draft needs to be in place at some point.
  10. I remember his looking absolutely miserable during those first several weeks when it was bitterly cold last year. Coincidentally, this was when most of defensive struggles came. Not saying those games don't count, but if you take them out of the equation I think it boosts his overall defensive performance quite a bit. And it was already quite high.
  11. Maybe "screwed" is a strong word, but any time a developing player gets a major ban he costs himself and his org. a lot IMO. Not saying he's not allowed a mistake here and there, or that I can't look past it down the road, but it still stings quite a bit right now, no?
  12. Kind of late in the game to be converting from a SH, no? Not saying it hasn't happened before, or can't happen with Hicks, it just seems like it maybe should have happened years ago if the transition was going to be smooth. Regardless, I think Hicksie will bounce back in a big way this year.
  13. The more I looked at this article, the more I'm reminded of a few papers I wrote in college. You know, the ones that I started the day before they were due and stayed up all night long to craft. Rambling, illogical, often contradictory, netting me a C if I was lucky. No thought, no research, or worse, made up research. Pretty font, slightly narrower margins and wider spacing to cloud the eyes and pad length. Basically a waste of time, energy and space for me and the poor prof. who had to grade it.
  14. Win range for 2014: Low - 72 High - 93 Best guess? 81
  15. That's a kind way to put it. I'd be more inclined to use more profanity and wage internet campaigns to stop anyone from ever reading his tripe again, but to each his own. Seriously, this has been a B+/A- offseason for the Twins. The signings they made will make us a much, MUCH better team. And TR did them in a way to keep maximum flexibility going forward (1 FA pitcher coming off the books each year for 4 years). How you could denigrate his efforts is entirely beyond me.
  16. If Dozier can repeat last year (minus May) for the next half decade he is more than just a "solid" 2B. He would be one of the best in baseball.
  17. Agreed. High end talent is one side of the coin. Depth is the other. It takes a whole coin to sustain success in MLB.
  18. I am of the opinion that winning breeds a culture of winning. Therefore, with the impending arrival of several strong players in the next 2-3 years, we should be trying to win now, not in 2-3 years. Sitting on our couches in December and saying "Ok, we look like a 72 win team, so let's jettison Correia and plug in Gibson and play for the future..." line of thinking is off base IMO. I want those kids arriving greeted by a professional team that places a premium on winning, not thinking about the future. Correia has done everything he was asked to and more for this ball club. He probably gives us a better chance to win than Gibson would, particularly during his historically good first several months of the season.
  19. If the TR decides Collabello isn't part of the future do we take advantage of his option and let him play the year mashing in AAA again? Or do we cut him loose and give him the chance to catch on with another MLB roster?
  20. .308 .408 .645 (1.053!) 30 HR, 99 RBI in only 100 games. 2013 Independent League POY. I bet he rakes in our minor league system. CC 2.0
  21. I'm not sure it is "clearly" AA level competition in Japan. Sometimes talent translates well, sometimes it does not. There are a host of other variables in play, not the least of which is the culture shock of playing in a foreign country very different than what you are used to. To suggest that the Japanese league ranks in the middle of our minor league system seems a bit ethnocentric and condescending. And how exactly is the jury still out on Darvish?
  22. I have a nagging feeling that after this year we will all be wishing we'd locked him up for 5 years instead of 2. He will turn in a sub 4 ERA, possibly leading the staff (and that's actually saying something after all the guys we brought in).
  23. Respectively, I disagree. He certainly can't hit any better this spring than last, but there are all sorts of intangibles that he could put on display along with a nice batting average that could persuade the coaching staff that he's ready. Playing stellar defense in CF could also sway some minds.
  24. If you're not used to the weight in that area of your body, it almost has to throw off your balance and mechanics, right? Couple that with some injury concerns and maybe some poor luck and I think he has the opportunity to bounce back. But don't discount his physique.
  25. I would strike out a lot and on occasion make some weak contact. Hammer, who should be our everyday DH, would do considerably better.
