    I say we really lean into it and start parsing it out by AB. AB #1 - SO - trade the bum! AB #2 - GIDP - trade the bum! AB #3 - Single - keep the solid performer! AB #4 - HR! - extend the stud! AB #5 - SO - trade the bum! This would require a lot of work, but the clear benefit is that we wouldn't have to wait until after the game is over to make unreasonable demands. Real time process people!

    I Well then that would work out perfectly. When he's an All-Star for another team our other type of TD malcontent can start a thread complaining we didn't keep him. Bitter fan circle of life.

    I love it. In one frustrating thread we have fans crushing the Twins for giving up on players too early. In this frustrating thread we have fans actively calling for us to give up on a talented young player. We TD Twins fans certainly run the gamut of emotions and expectations! Polanco isn't going anywhere and will be just fine. He will look even better at 2nd when we move on from Dozier. This kid can play.

    This isn't a video game with programmable skill attributes. We're talking about living, breathing, dynamic human individuals, not numbers and variables in an equation. Any prediction is fraught with uncertainty. Even with precedent, it's important to remember that not every relationship is a correlation. I see no reason why strikeouts/9 are more indicative of success than many other stats, other than they happen to be en vogue right now with the saber community.

    None of Blackburne, Silva, and even Gibson had/have as good of stuff as Stewart. At the very least he has the pitches to be an impact closer. But I'm not giving up on him as a starter.

    Sounds like semantics to me. Anything assuming he has less than a 50% chance to be an impact big leaguer is premature. Strikeouts are sexy but not the only way to success.

    Your point is a very good one, no need to get defensive on the Twins behalf (although that can be difficult with thread topics dissecting every player to ever leave the Twins and find success...). However, I do not believe that strikeout rates are 100% predictive of MLB success. I'm sure there's a correlation but there must be exceptions. Furthermore, i bet most of those exceptions have multiple strong\high velo pitches like Stewart does.

    Great discussion here. I see validity in both sides. I agree that the value in high draft picks is high end impact, not average WAR. But I also feel there is more than one way to achieve high end impact. History might be against Stewart becoming an impact starter (still debatable) but if he converts to an all-star closer that's still high end impact. I would never call Perkins a bust, closers of his caliber don't grow on trees and aren't cheap. The track record for "failed" high pick starters that become dominant relievers has been fairly well established across baseball. Give Kohl a couple more years (or three, or four) to see where his career arc takes him before passing sentence on him. Sometimes those assessments become self-fulfilling prophecies, so why jump to them?

    As he gets on base more teams will figure this out and throw home to stop the run scoring and hold him at 3rd...and let the lag runner skip merrily into second. Pick your poison, rest of the world!

    In all seriousness, I'd pick him up cheap and stick him in the pen. Perhaps groom him for high leverage sits.
