    I'm just going to say it: Glad they got rid of Maki. Remember Wes Johnson? Little guy with a big mouth, but believed in velocity? Maki filled in for him. And I thought to myself: look at that guy, he seems like something off of Leave it to Beaver. What the hell does he know about pitching? Never heard of him, did he even ever pitch in organized baseball? You know, after the manager, the pitching coach is really the next biggest face of management on the field. And, trite as it may sound, you want that guy to look smart or tough or aggressive, or maybe even just look like he was once a great pitcher. Took the Twins 3 years to figure that out. Get on with it already.

    Shelton has been on Prielipp to smile more. Or at least, once in awhile. Looking at the photo with Shelton removing him from the game is hilarious.

    Yeah, Walker's swing is smooth, but tell you what: never saw Mauer ripping balls down the right field line. Did Mauer ever hit the RF foul pole? Ever?

    Yeah, Keaschall is a gamer. He just is. His arm ain't great but his strength is going to be running down fly balls, making diving catches and generally taking solid routes. Don't look for a lot of outfield assists, unless you include getting pitchers out of innings by making tough catches. He's a sparkplug. And, I'm trying to remember the last one of those in recent Twins' outfield history....

    Keaschall is a gamer. That means he loves to play, he wants to win and he will sacrifice in multiple ways to get there. That's what a team wants in a player: team-oriented, gutsy, tough, resilient, a full-on fighter for the cause of winning. His arm is not strong, and that's hard to change. He is fast and he can definitely get to balls on the run. Everything points to left field. I would start there and see how far Luke can go with it. It ain't rocket science.

    Keep on losing boys, it'll help at Draft time. How about Brett Headrick? Yankee pen man extraordinaire. He's killing it after being a Twins cast-off. How does that happen? It's not like the Twins were full of LH relief pitchers in '24. It's not about blaming the Twins, although that may be appropriate because they let him go for nothing. But how does a guy go from below average to elite with very little change in make-up, physical tools or raw stuff? I will never understand that one.

    Lee is the type of solid overall player and stable emotional performer that will one day end up playing for the Yankees. The short porch in right at Yankee Stadium will result in an additional 5-10 HRs. He will be much esteemed and loved by their fans. I guarantee it.

    Great article, well-informed and pregnant with prescience for Twins fans experiencing the roller coaster of September. Kudos. I now feel conflicted about how I should root on game outcomes.

    Not sure the opener was about politics as much as American history. Cops and corporate stiffs with baseball bats have a long history in resolving disputes, not so much political ones as social, particularly between strikers and management, but occasionally with street protests as well. Cops with baseball bats is something I have never seen at a baseball stadium in any context, and I thought it was an interesting way to open the day's festivities. Wish you could have seen it.

    Second row Twins dugout notes: Weird pre-game. Probably 40 cops up each line from home plate in full-dress holding, wait for it, baseball bats. Some of them like truncheons. After the ICE fiasco, it was not a great look, even if they were only DUI all-stars being recognized for public service. Of course, given the number of excessive drinkers at Twins' games... maybe an on-point reminder. Jenkins, when he comes in at the half-inning waits on the field for every Twins' player to get to the dugout, high-fives them, then goes into the dugout last. Class kid, good teammate, and for a 21 year-old, he a man. If ever he hits the wall at pace, look out. Keaschall's home run, from where I sat, he turned on it and you could tell there was a catapult effect when the bat came through the ball, it stayed on the bat a half-beat then was launched into the bullpen with ease. Expect more power going forward. Chicago had a lot of hard hit balls converted to outs, line drives, long flies, two-hoppers. We got lucky; they didn't. The extended netting to protect fans, I don't like it and it makes it hard to track the hit balls. Up on the concourse after the eighth inning, EMTs were escorting a woman on a gurney to medical services, she was prone and holding her face with one hand where it looked like a ball had impacted high on her cheekbone. Always be alert at the stadium, even when far from home plate.

    Nah, the Twins just aren't good enough this year. Again. Hoping they got a good start on their core for next year. May Culpepper, Jenkins and Lee be all-stars in the next window of contention.

    Keaschall is a gamer, gets on base and can run. He will grow into more power over time. But, why they throw him into CF is beyond me. An off-season focus on lengthening the way he throws the ball, and tracks flyballs -- he can make himself into a decent LF'er. The Twins just need to commit to that and stop moving him around. You know, between Buxton and his injuries, Royce and his slumps, all the lefty OF prospects and a bullpen that doesn't miss bats -- plus Keaschall's defensive positioning -- there are perplexing and not easily solvable questions for 2027 and beyond, despite having solid players across the organization. It's almost like -- they can't get anywhere from where they are now because the inherent limitations posed by their collective weaknesses make it impossible.

    Classic Twins front office on Jenkins: sacrifice the present season in hopes next year will be better. That is the ultimate self-fulfilling prophecy. They are always just one year away, but no way to get there from where they are.

    The Twins have made it a fun season with timely hitting, good starting pitching, and overall grit. But, let's face it: it took them four months to build a bullpen. They don't have good team speed or athleticism. Their team defense is below average due to players being asked to defend at different positions than they have played at the MLB level. And now, maintaining the clutch hitting, HRs, and OBP -- in the middle of a playoff chase-- while the team speed and defense continues to expose them.... It's a reach. They are what they are. You can't expect Keaschall to man center or Martin to throw out guys at the plate. Now with a rookie SS, three catchers, Buxton on the IL, Ryan hurt.... add it up and it's remarkable to be even in a playoff chase.

    I guess the formula for Twins' management is to not allow young MLB players to accrue service time during a work stoppage. That or they've been so focused on pitching they haven't really thought about how to get more offense from AAA. Either way, it's a glaringly poor show: three catchers, Tristan Gray, a lot of lefty outfielders with potential, and of course, Buxton on the IL. The window is closing.

    Not sure why this article claims it to be a "fake rally". Last I checked, Keaschall tied the game in the 9th after they were down 6-0. I turned the game off in the 7th, so to me, I missed a great rally, with three home-runs. Baseball is hard, but writing about coming back from 6-0 shouldn't be.

    Yeah, Kremer becomes Paredes. That way they keep the bullpen intact. It's a maintenance move not a game changer.

    I tr;y not to get too excited when walking off the worst team in the American League to take two out of three at home, after nearly being shut-out two games in a row. But "ra-ra". They sure aren't there yet, wherever they are going. But belief is a powerful thing, and the Twins' players believe in something. We will see what management believes in over the next four days. I, for one, am going to put on a helmet.
