  1. Only if they were doing a better job than last time they signed someone who was a DH type should you be disappointed that they did not replace Grossman, even if he was at his 100 plus OPS+ peak
  2. He played Art Howe, a more fitting role for him. His next film released was Ides of March, which had a 77 million worldwide box office, which was good for a small budget film
  3. Martinez has the same team old school Dusty Baker had, the difference he has made is not a good one Maddon managed a 100 loss team. Additions of talent make you look so much smarter. Just ask Craig Counsel
  4. When Vargas was DFAd it was before having this bad season. Every team passed on him. Even the White Sox who it seems like they take the available Twins minor league batters that comes cheaply and is available.
  5. Cave is hitting better than Gardner, Austin hit better than Bird. The Yankees were kind of stuck with Gardner. Of course if they hadn't traded their back up back up catcher a few years ago for a struggling outfielder they would need Cave. Timing for a team is everything. Just ask an Astos fan about JD Martinez. Bird has more potential probably than Austin, but he has not come through just yet. So they could have had a place on the Yankees. Relievers. Seems like a contender could always use a better one.
  6. He has one option left. If he does not hit in the spring they can get their days that way and call him up next week if they want to. The year of control is worth far less than what a healthy hitting Buxton brings to the team. It might cost the team more money, but so what. If he does not hit and ends up a .720 OPS GG CF he is not going to be expensive to keep and you continue to draft CF
  7. Glen Perkins comes to mind. Eflin might lose enough time with his 10 day demotion. I am sure there are more players with mlb experience sent down As far as Buxton goes, almost 1000 PA, before this season, .701 ops. Can he do a Dozier or a JD Martinez?
  8. The Twins traded a few of their under performing assets and a lefty reliever. That is not quiting
  9. This year the comp might be Mike Maddux. While Greg Maddux preformed well his last half decade of his career, he was at an over 4 ERA.
  10. Dillon Tate is pretty far removed from being considered much of a prospect. 24 years old, AA, unranked in overall prospect ranking. I can't remember the last older AA pitching prospect traded for a reliever that was not in somebodies top 100 list of prospects become someone who was a must have. player
  11. In the end all the Brewers got was a trade chip for another player that required more chips. Prospects outside of the top 20 are no different than a guess. The thing is if you believe in your prospect it would be unusual to trade them
  12. The Twins by excess would have only OF on the 40 man that are not performing near ceiling. If you really wanted to rattle some people you could have said Buxton and Kepler. If Miami had a third player you could throw Sano in the mix, The Twins could have obtain Barraclough easily if they had had signed him. They wasted a lot of money that year. Drafted Brian Anderson of the Marlins that year, too.
  13. A minor league manager with primarily aging AAA player winning means exactly what for the parent team? They either do not have any players hence using the long term minor league player or they are not developing the talent and playing to win a AAA game, not MLB games in the future. Advocating that your teams win over player development shoots an organization in the foot. Of course if you believe analytics don't belong in baseball then root for that kind of manager.
  14. There have been plenty of rp shuttled, Busenitz, Littel, Curtis, Moya and Duffey to name a few. Hale and Kinney were also tried. They all had so much success that they were all sent back
  15. Pressly is making 1.6 million. Less than a half year of that salary is not a lot in terms of baseball salary. As he has an ERA+ of 110 he should net a decent reliever type prospect. Ynoa at the time of his trade was a decent prospect as services viewed his potential as a middle of the rotation starter.
  16. When they could get a reasonably higher ceiling player last year they sold. Management recognized the team's relative position for the playoffs.
  17. If you sell and get Eduardo Escobars, great. If you are getting Enns and Pedro Hernandez type players there is no point in selling. Minimal scouting should be able to tell the difference in ceilings.
  18. In a discussion of who is to be called up Romero is no longer an option if you haven’t noticed
  19. Normal rest is every 5 days, not 6 Other than Slegers, Littell is the only other starter to choose from that has pitched well this year in Rochester. They might as well see what he has got at the major league level.
  20. correlation and causation. There is a Michael McDonald song there somewhere
  21. for 2015 Phil Hughes had a fWAR of 5.95 If you take the costs of the contracts signed that year dived by the total WAR of the players you come up with the they consider the true cost of WAR when multiplied by 5.95. gives you 44 million. Now a bunch of teams spent money on player expecting huge returns. Of course the duds free agents like Bronson Arroyo Ubaldo Jimenez and Sin Soo Choo that are getting 13-14 million to produce very little WAR each it really drives up the cost.
  22. How many bad half seasons has Dozier had? Good thing the front office is not as fickle as some or Dozier might have been traded for some sack of potatoes middle reliever. Weil and Wade may be good players. Unfortunately they might not be so good as to have the talent to jump from AA to MLB. There are over 100 players the smart list makers think are better than either of these two players. The words "nationally ranked prospect" have not been linked with them
  23. Magill is having a career year at AAA. Did the Padres fix something or is it a case of smart enough to get AAA batters out, not good enough for MLB
