  1. Rosario ranked #65 for KLAW, #112 for Seedlings to the Stars. Berrios was at #121 for Seedlings. Haven't seen May or Kepler ranked, but Law said he anticipates he'll make next year's top 100 barring a setback. It's entirely possible the Twins graduate two (Hicks and Gibson) and add four (Kepler, Rosario, Berrios, and Austin Meadows). I'm smiling as I type this. Saying the minors are improved is a begrudging understatement, is it not, mike? Just ribbing you.
  2. In 2012, it looks like almost every ranker had Goodrum in their top 20, but no one ranked him higher than #16.
  3. In 2011, Baseball Prospectus ranked Goodrum #16; MILB had him at #20. Aaron, Seth, and Twinkietown ranked him at #23, #26, and #30.
  4. Those Pelfrey quotes reported by Berardino and Bollinger? Nothing but Twins PR. Right, mike wants wins? We're a handful of days into camp, for God's sake. There's no bad news to report! Hell, today is the first day of live batting practice, so yes, mike, I call you cynical, my brother.
  5. One of Vavra's options may have been to choose to have a good heart and a good attitude. I choose to believe what he says and accord him some respect. Check your mirror, Kobs.
  6. Exactly how do YOU know what's in this man's mind and heart, Kobs?
  7. The frosting on the cake for me is that we have a slew of FORMER top 10 prospects who have not yet established themselves, and that represent better promise than most commenters here seem to accept: Hendriks, Parmelee, Dozier, Benson, Robertson, Herrmann. The other thing that excites me is the quality of the next 15 best prospects, players like Polanco, Harrison, Santana, Wimmers, Goodrum, Salcedo, Bard, Jorge, Minier, Boyd, Melotakis, Chargois, Walker,Hermsen, Pressly, Oliveros, Michael, Boer, Vargas, Baxendale, Jones, Williams....
  8. I see the merit in both Nick's and Chief's arguments, although I really wonder about how many games the Butera "injury" costs us. This is at best a .500 team right now, and I can't get worked up about Drew Butera. Besides, I find him to be a likeable chap, especially in his golf duds. What works me up a bit is why our beat writers don't ask the hard questions. The Twins must disagree with you guys. Why don't we have a solid explanation about why they think Butera offers enough to offset his obvious offensive deficiencies?
  9. It'll come down to injuries. Practically every team loses at least one starter to a season-ending (often career-ending) injury. Most teams lose another guy to injury for weeks, and a third guy underperforms. Detroit lacks pitching depth throughout their system, and especially in the high minors. Same with Chicago and even Cleveland. Frankly, I think the best odds would favor the Royals.
  10. Aren't the legions of empty-glassers bettors?
  11. Afraid Slowey would insist on working out of the bullpen.
  12. I partially agree with this. Although for every pie in the sky outlook about a prospect, you'll find the opposite "Twins track record" stuff, with Adam Johnson as the poster boy of Twins ineptitude. The probability is pretty high that four of five of our top ten prospects have outstanding careers while only a couple are complete dissappointments. Another few are meh.
  13. I don't know what you guys are talking about. The Twins are completely clueless. Hell, they don't even own laptops.
  14. Souhan never seems to miss an opportunity to act like a snarky little brat. I doubt he has much conviction about what he wrote. It was probably much more about taking a pot shot at bloggers and us commenters, the noveau fans. Just another exercise in triteness by Souhan for the most part. The thread sort of digressed into a discussion (again) about rebuilding, and whether they're going about it in the "right way". My thought is that there is more than one way to skin a cat. I don't think any of us noveau fans believe they're NOT rebuilding. Baseball can't happen soon enough, my friends. We're rehashing three themes constantly: 1. Are they rebuilding the right way? 2. Did they lie to us? 3. Are we entitled to more? In his snarky way, I think Souhan was taking his biggest pot shot at those who constantly bitch about the second two points, not the first. As much as I dislike Souhan, I can fully understand this. Let's play ball.
  15. The play of Zoilo in 1965 gave me more thrills as a young boy who loved baseball than the play of any other Twin has since. He was that exciting to watch that year, for me.
  16. Um, you said something about proof, jokin. In your usual inflammatory, hateful style. Sincere advice: take this thread to a shrink and work through it with this professional. Do this with an honest mind and a softened heart. For your own sake and for the sake of those you affect.
  17. Hey, Twerp! I resemble that!
  18. They lied to you, mike. And tomorrow they're going to come over and kill your dog.
  19. Do the scouts regard Manaea, Stanek, and Appel as future aces?
  20. Isn't Span a pretty good example of a player fans gave up on? He fell completely off a lot of top 40 Twins prospect lists when his stats looked pedestrian. Hopefully, Dozier is another one of those guys who has the potential to be more than what meets the eye of the fans.
  21. Thanks for posting. But I have to tell you, I disagree with so many of your conclusions, and can very very easily give examples that completely contradict them. First of all Gardy and Andy don't have a thing to do with the draft, so the notion of them having a massive influence on "types" of players, from a talent, skill, personality, cultural, or racial perspective is preposterous. And please look in the mirror. Your generalization thet midwesterners are reticent to talk about race or culture is a bit insulting. And the notion that there is this overt attempt to jettison non-conforming players for reasons other than how they affect team performance (usually by failing to perform as individuals) and to pin it on racial and cultural dynamics fails all tests. you know, most of the most popular players among fans in the Twin's long history refute your argument. And frankly, when we talk about Carew, Oliva, Versalles, Killebrew, Tovar, Puckett, Pascual, Mauer, Tiant, Chance, Santana, Viola---we don't talk about culture, and race, and religion. We don't even talk about whether they were good or bad actors. It's about how much we loved their ability to play the game of baseball.
  22. When were Stelmazek and White "blamed for anything, and by whom, thrylos? They weren't, that's when. And isn't it ironic, coming from you, that you're bitter about those two, but have been calling for the Twins to rid themselves of the old (literally meant by you) guys like Rantz and Gardy? Who's been any better at the blame game than you?
  23. Absolutely. I said I thought Ryan should, and probably would, add three SP that equalled or even exceeded the Diamond standard. I predicted one would come by trade (and Worley did) and two via FA (in my uninformed opinion, none of the FA acquisitions are better than Diamond). So, I've expressed my dissappointment, shared by most of us. So, because it was Pelfry and Correia instead of, say, McCarthy and Marcum, I've tempered my optimism. Are you OK with that, jokin, or do you want to continue to single me (and others) out when you comment in your customary derogatory tone? No need at all for you to feel sad for me, jokin.
