  1. We exchanged talent that we drafted for some of these guys. Scouted and signed some others. A lot of the best of them were drafted and developed by the Twins.
  2. Must've been your 4th game?
  3. Yes. We're seeing true shutdown guys in the best bullpens, not solid relievers. Betances and Miller were two of the most highly-prized prospects out there. Why would a team not pay attention to what KC and the Yanks are accomplishing and be more willing to insert high-ceiling guys into the BP? I agree that Ryan won't overhaul the pen via FA and trades acceptably. He won't pony up. But I have a bit of optimism that there is an organizational recognition of the need to build a deep and more overpowering bullpen. It's just that stubborn insistence on doing it from within, and we just have to hope that a handful of these prospects with dominant pitches can get their act together quickly. Lots of candidates in addition to May.
  4. Wow. The Twins roster construction. Is the worst in the history of baseball! This is good information, thanks. Out of curiosity, who came in second in the history of baseball?
  5. This is a fun exercise. However, I can imagine several false conclusions being reached. To get things started, here are my own false conclusions: 1. The most troubling weakness of the Twins and Ryan over the years has been management, and especially the "disposal" of player assets. Not so much bad trades, but more the timing. My own view has been that they have lacked a "sell discipline", and the result has been sub-optimal returns on those assets on a regular basis. 2. Perhaps the organization's greatest strength gets evidenced by this thread. I wonder how many other organizations can boast of producing players prolifically enough to have three dozen of them still good enough to play for other teams. A roster and a half of players! Scouting, drafting, and developing talent is a strength for this organization in my mind.
  6. Molitor was a big fan of Santana and wanted him as his opening day shortstop. He said as much and there's no reason to think he was mouthing Ryan's words. Not that it was hugely damaging IMO, but Paulie could've benched him more and earlier in favor of Escobar.
  7. Why do I feel like I'm overhearing a conversation in the lobby of the assisted living hovel my mother-in-law so deservedly lives in?
  8. Geez, how many bad pitchers can you HAVE in the back of a bullpen? That's right, now I remember. It's eight.
  9. Exactly. Unlike Danny Santana, Punto had tangible value, and I think all the talk about Gardy only playing him because of the intangible attributes got way too much traction. And Gardy didn't have Escobar as an alternative/ Gardy may have been guilty of overusing Punto and even liking his "blue collar" baseball skills more than he should have, but he took too much grief IMO. And now, Paulie has a clearly superior option, and we have a smattering of commenters wanting to pin things on Ryan? This is on Paulie, is it not?
  10. Them are fake. Birdwatcher
  11. Internally at the Hormel Brothers, the motto and aspiration is "98% of the pig." Understandably, the marketing people down there are rather quiet about this.
  12. And after a 4th bite, you're stopping at every Carl Jr.'s to use the bathroom all the way to Austin.
  13. First, let's eliminate the old, the injured, the mediocre, and the guys who started in A-ball. That leaves Taylor Rogers, who has been mediocre at best recently. This is not a list of prospects who would have added a win, and most would have added a loss or three.
  14. But which young guys would you have called up from AAA or AA, for either the purpose of getting them experience or winning an extra 2-3 games? I can't think of a single reliever down there that performed well enough to warrant a call-up (Burdi/Reed/Jones?) or who wasn't given a shot (Meyer/Tonkin?), other than perhaps Berrios.
  15. My recollection is that most of the discussions about Polanco have centered on the scouting report's revelations about his arm strength, and about the errors, both as indications that he may fail the test as an every day shortstop. The consensus seemed to be happiness that he was being given a shot. Very civil conversations, with only a handful of opinions (thrylos as I recall) that he is the ss of the future, and lots of doubt that it would work out for him. Hardly any ridiculing and ripping if any at all.
  16. Substitute Punto for Santana and Gardy for Paulie. And then be thankful we're not contending with all that rubbish about Paulie's little favorites and compromising photos. Yet. Better that people blame it all on Ryan.
  17. You know what the white stuff is in bird crap, don't you? It's still bird crap.
  18. And crows. Even monkeys know crows. Right Brian?
  19. Thank you, I'll seek permission.
  20. Cardinals are not found in North Dakota. They require trees.
  21. So there you sit with your bat on your shoulder. A veritable first-pitch Mauer.
  22. Never seen one of these on the ground like the one Sano killed. But in flight, the Altamira Oriole's call is a hoarse, nasal, rising griink. Repeated.
  23. I recommend putting out some Welch's Grape Jelly. And Baltimore Orioles don't chirp. Their song is a rather dulcet series of rich, clear, whistled notes: pidoo tewdi tewdi yewdi tew tidew.
