  1. Hey, yeah! And I can see a gazillion of 'em at a time down at the Vikings stadium!
  2. How about, you've ignored the reality that they've been working a plan, that it's been a pretty transparent and forthright undertaking, imperfect for sure. And yet, you reject out of hand the entire plan you claim to not know about and in a broad stroke deride his execution of it. This is the epitome of an unbalanced and extreme level of criticism, my friend. How are we to take such criticism seriously?
  3. Sorry about the monsoon up there. Kidding. I'm kidding.
  4. I get all this and pretty much agree, but this is an entirely different argument than the "damned if you do or don't" one. People are entitled to their opinions, regardless of how well-based their level of "confidence" is. Most people come by their opinions honestly. It doesn't do a hell of a lot of good to appeal to authority or appeal for a bit of humility. I speak from personal experience. I've been misguided enough to make those appeals in the past.
  5. jimmer, you need to tell me and my pal mike wants wins what either Smith or Ryan had to do with this other than to heed the advice of the five dozen people sourcing and developing the talent and building the relationships with the international agents.
  6. Respectfully, blackjack, I think a lot of the criticism regarding Jepson was honest, and not what you're describing here. It was entirely reasonable for some to believe his acquisition wasn't going far enough, and for others to think it was an overpay, or both. I really believe that the "damned if you do or don't" comments are the exception around here, not the rule.
  7. Respectfully, Chief, I do question this a bit. After sitting out for as long as Buxton did, why wouldn't getting into a dozen games at AAA be the right tonic? I haven't heard reports first-hand from his AAA coaches, but isn't it reasonable to think he's been improving game by game down there?
  8. To your AA group, yes.
  9. 99% of us think Ryan's inaction had the effect of dousing any remote chance of staying in contention for the wild card. Ryan didn't deliberately think to himself, " now, how can I assure that we fall out of contention here?" which is the implication of saying he was lying to us. He's guilty of poor decision-making, not deception.
  10. I don't mind the criticisms, except when they are extreme and completely unbalanced. But I loathe it when people take gutless character potshots at Ryan or anyone else. Especially the subtle ones where he gets portrayed as dishonest, stupid, or worse. There are some commenters who specialize in doing this and are quite adept at it. I'd love to see less of this. The other thing that needs to go away are references to Ryan Haters and Front Office fans. Those labels are polarizing and unfriendly. I tend to cut the manager and front office more slack the most (although not when it comes to this disgusting trade deadline). I pushed back at a lot of the harshest criticism of Gardy. I was eventually convinced that his time here had run its course by reasoned and civil arguments by the good people here. I might be convinced of the same regarding Ryan, but not by the pitchfork crowd.
  11. Why do we have to go there? Most of the people commenting on this thread said the Twins would be out of contention by the All-Star break. Were they all lying?
  12. I fear the only thing callng up Where's Oswaldo would do for us is guarantee us the victory in a pre-game Knucklehead Contest.
  13. OK, no problem, as long as we give it a year or three before proclaiming failure too. Perkins was a starter in college though, right? And wasn't Nathan a shortstop?
  14. And congrats to the Twins for drafting a relief pitcher and successfully converting him into a starter.
  15. Thanks for looking back on your trips to see A-ball, Seth. In looking at the current Kernels roster, I'm struggling to get very excited about players there other than perhaps Gonsalves and Gordon, and even those two don't evoke the kind of optimism for me that guys like Berrios, Polanco or Rosario did. You say they have a lot of talent, and their record shows it, but I'm curious about who you think is emerging as possible MLB regulars in the future outside of those two guys.
  16. Very well put. I'm generally skeptical about the value of "leadership" as described by the beat writers because of the likelihood of bias, but it can't be dismissed entirely. LaVelle doesn't get good grades from me overall, but there has to be at least something to his strident opinion about Hunter's intangible value. I saw a tweet recently where he was asked what he thought was behind Aaron Hick's remarkable turnaround to becoming such a steady and professional ballplayer, and Neal replied with one word: "Hunter". Without knowing how to quantify this, I'd certainly include it in any proper analysis of the man's relative value.
  17. Haha, that's a little harsh. Let's turn it around though, OK? If you're just going to eyeball it with that kind of an analysis ("OPS+") , I'd guess you're going to conclude with absolute certainty the results of every MLB transaction, whether you're right or not. Do you completely reject qualitative analysis?
  18. If we buy Rasmus being worth a couple wins based on his baseball statistics and ignore his major suckage as a dancer and DJ, yes, he would have been a better choice. I'm wondering how we'd go about factoring the immeasurables though, and didn't Rasmus sit in his living room for a good part of the winter with no takers? Makes me wonder about his real value to his club as opposed to a hypothetical value based on the stats. At any rate, selecting Hunter instead of Rasmus seems to be about the least of this team's problems. I'd call it a wash, and passing on Melky was a decent decision.
  19. Would be great, and a bit surprising, to see him become a factor once again.
  20. Who has a higher ceiling, Kohl Stewart or Tyler Duffey? Now, who gives us a better chance to win right now? Exactly. Duffey gives us a better chance to win right now. No need to parse phrases here.
  21. Again, the truth of the matter is that the FO did NOT say Duffey is better than Berrios, ever. There isn't a person anywhere who believes that. You guys know that. Go ahead and argue that Berrios would have been a better choice, and I might be right there with you. But I'm sorry, to phrase it as if the FO actually SAID Duffey is better than Berrios is a deliberate attempt to shed them in a bad light, and that is getting so tiresome, OK? Why do we have to constantly resort to this kind of comment? It doesn't spur honest discussion, does it?
  22. If you can't throw an inside pitch six inches off the plate without hitting a guy, maybe a guy's standing too close to the plate. Drill 'em.
