  1. I can't believe I'm saying this as I was strongly in the DFA camp for he and Gallo about 6 weeks ago, but if he can provide a relatively strong finish the season, not necessarily as high as he is now, I think he's worth the option, even if only as a trade piece. If Gallo can fetch $11M, Kepler coming off a WAR of 2-3 should be worth $10M. I wouldn't be too keen to commit to another multi-year contract though unless he finishes really strong, and they plan to move Larnach.
  2. Yes....please. If this were a stronger overall team that looked like a potential WS team, I would say no, but the hope is to: 1. Win a playoff GAME, and 2. Win a single series. I don't see any chance it goes beyond that...the bullpen won't allow it. As stated, we only need 3-4 starters in the playoffs, and Keuchel is fine as a #5 for the rest of the season (10-11 starts).
  3. Keirsey, Lee, and Severino all need to be in St. Paul this week...or part of a trade (excluding Lee).
  4. So if they spent the extra $717,280, they'd pay $537,960 in tax and lose out on about $882,000 in revenue sharing (based on 2022 overages). That extra $717,280 actually costs about $2.14M if I'm tracking correctly. Not defending it, but I understand the Twins' side of things a little better.
  5. If he was raking as a DH, I would say to leave him be, but we aren't getting any value there. I would get him back out there and if things go poorly, shut him down...completely, until he can either play the field or we know that he will never play the field again. This has dragged on long enough. If you have to shut him down AGAIN for the season, we really aren't our much. No way Chris Williams can't provide what Buck is giving at the plate.
  6. In my opinion, the deepest market left in free agency is relief pitching. I might consider adding 2-3....Chafin, Fulmer, etc. Maybe even a 1-year "prove it" deal for Taylor Rogers. Those and similar others should be available for $4-$8 million per season. If things go south, at the trade deadline we'll hopefully have some chips to replenish our prospect pool that we drained some last year.
  7. I'd have to add David McCarty to the biggest disappointment discussion. Taken 3rd overall in the '91 draft, he was a "can't miss" college bat that would carry the Twins into the 2000's. As a teen, I couldn't wait for him to get to get to the big club...man did he miss...a lot!
  8. It looks to be the minority opinion, and while Lewis has looked fantastic, it's a small sample size. "IF" he is the future at SS, he needs to play SS...everyday. He's missed 2 full seasons of development...timing, footwork, throws, etc. doesn't come back in just one spring training and a month's worth of games. If Correa is ready to come back and play, he'll have the majority of the time at SS, so I'd send Lewis back to St. Paul, knowing he's full of confidence and just on the other side of Mississippi when he's needed.
  9. It's a tough pill, but I'd actually make the Castillo deal. Controllable front-line starters won't come cheap and to get 3 years, for Royce and Kepler seems reasonable. We don't know what Royce will be, and that was prior to the injury. There are plenty of skeptics on how much he will hit. Kepler is who he is at this point and with Kiriloff, Larach, Wallner, etc. coming along, we should consider him as a valuable trade chip. I don't like what's left on the FA market, and while I hate giving up prospects, I think having Austin Martin now helps ease a loss of Royce.
