  1. Do you think Bowden sees the bigs with the Twins? The bullpen is crowded (leaving quality aside, just speaking of quantity) and I think the 40-man is full, but do they find a way to give him a look?
  2. Realignment into two 15-team leagues makes a certain amount of interleague play a mathematical necessity where it wasn't before. If that were somehow not a factor, I'm not sure whether I would prefer more, less or no interleague play. It seems like it changes an aesthetic aspect of the game but at the root I'm not sure it really matters much to the experience of a fan. I don't think interleague play alone should push the leagues toward a universal DH. I do wish they would re-balance the unbalanced schedule, though...
  3. I don't really know anything about most of these amateur players, but did it seem like Austin Rei, the college catcher drafted right after the Twins picked in round 3, might have been a good choice?
  4. This is not directly related to the above, but I just was looking over the Chattanooga roster - do they really not have a single left-handed pitcher on that team?
  5. I agree that this will be an issue in the long term, but if they wanted to get Sano's feet wet in the majors later in the summer (and I don't think they should be in a hurry to do that yet), it can work for a partial season. If they think he's ready for a trial, Sano can be a part-time starter for a few months without it hurting his development. Rotate him in at DH and let him start a few games at 3B while Plouffe rests or takes a spot start at 1B or LF. Sano could take Nunez' spot and you wouldn't miss much besides a third-string shortstop.
  6. While it is true that the third spring training has almost passed since those trades, they were effectively two seasons ago. Everyone at the time knew that Meyer and May were about two seasons away, one of them has already debuted, and they're both likely to be in the majors for good this year. There are absolutely things to criticize about the player acquisition and management record of this team, but what is your point here?
  7. Now here's a money quote. This rivals Gardenhire - or anyone really - for saying nothing and needing a lot of words to say it.
  8. Hey Seth, fun to read your report, but one little thing - if you want people reading this to know what actually happened on that Pelfrey play, you may want to describe it a bit more - nowhere is it actually mentioned that he threw his glove. Fortunately the video was on mlb.com, but I had no idea what was going on from the description above (which isn't just on you, but has a lot to do with Pelfrey and Molitor giving talk-a-lot-say-nothing quotes.)
  9. My next thought on hearing the Maddon-Rays news, after the first thought of "obviously! go get him!", was that if Friedman's departure prompted Maddon to opt out of his contract, would he really want to go work for Ryan, not nearly as analytical a GM by reputation and perhaps a less savvy one overall? Apparently, Maddon's opt-out was only triggered when Friedman left the Rays organization, but Maddon claims he "didn't even know" of the clause in his contract. I'm skeptical, but it does seem like the emerging story is about Maddon deciding to explore his options because he could, perhaps follow the money elsewhere once the Rays org went into flux, and less about choosing to leave the Rays because Friedman was gone. That's the only interpretation that gives me hope that Maddon could be interested in the Twins job.
  10. Getting Adam as the trade return at first glance looks a bit like getting Gilmartin for Doumit last offseason. A pitching prospect who's fallen off the map a bit and could be tweaked or coached back closer to his upside. Since Gilmartin is doing decently this year I'm interested to see the results of this one too.
  11. I didn't know until yesterday about that unusual clause in Lackey's contract that triggered an extra year on his deal for $500,000 because he had Tommy John surgery. Gotta say, I'm kind of stumped that the Red Sox traded him, considering that they seem as likely to reload for next year as to rebuild from the ground.
  12. Apologies if this is a redundant post since I didn't read through the entire middle of this thread, but on the new site just as on the old I'm getting some of the sidebar ads automatically playing sound, either little split-second chunks or full extended sections. Kind of a nuisance at any time and especially not good for anyone reading the site at work (not that I'd ever do that...)
  13. Definitely would be interested in Jurrjens as a risk/reward flyer at the right price, Karstens as rotation filler and Torres as a veteran backup.
