  1. Well whatever game Paxton is gonna start Schoop would probably be starting anyways. For whatever that’s worth.
  2. What about the fact that Duffey never pitches more than one inning and Baldelli never sends him back out after the end of an inning? I don’t think that has happened in this entire scoreless stretch of his (I could be wrong). What’s the reasoning behind that? I like the idea of condensing the three Ts in the playoffs into the odd games. So games 1,3,5, and 7, you alternated Berrios and Odo to start, but only ask 3 or 4 innings from them, maybe 5 if they’re going really well. Then follow with 1-2 innings each of Duffey, May, and Rogers. The even number games you start Dobnak and whoever else and follow it up with Littel, Graterol, and Romo in the same vein. This way you assure the three Ts are always pitching with rest on the odd games, and it has been shown before by someone they they do way better when pitching with rest, and they can each give you two innings on those days (though that doesn’t work if there is some reason that’s Duffey can’t pitch more than one inning). I think this an advanced approach suitable for the modern age of baseball, if you can do extreme shifts all the time and ignore large portions of the field no reason you can’t put all your eggs in the odd-games baskets in the playoffs. You only need to win the odd games to win the playoffs.
  3. I don’t think it’s unreasonable that there would be one less outfielder and 13 pitchers with Thorpe or Smeltzer being included. They will need all the pitching they can get.
  4. Hildenberger is not gonna be on the postseason roster. Smeltzer will be. I hope this uptrend is for real.
  5. I really admire your efforts to consult first hand with the people of knowledge.
  6. What does an upper tier reliever on the free agent market cost for a contract that gives the team three years of control? Whatever it is it probably makes giving up one or even two of the likes of Kiriloff, Wander Javier, Larnach, Lewis, Diaz etc. for a guy like this.
  7. I developed a shoulder impingement in my early twenties. Physical therapy helped and then weight training. However, I will say that the pain of going through it caused me to have a sort of mental block that to this day, 10 years later, prevents me from fully exerting my shoulder on a throw. This type of problem is more a product of personality though more than anything.
  8. Of the 106 100-win teams in MLB history only 12 went as fast the Twins have without a 3-game losing streak.
  9. 22 of the 106 teams to have won 100 games did NOT have losing streaks within the first 50 games of a season.
  10. Okay so the list below completes a look up of what I believe is all teams in history that had a .700 winning percentage or better. Only the 1902 PITTSBURGH PIRATES went without a 3 game losing streak; in a 142 game schedule. Also, amongst the teams I’ve looked up here, only five teams went without a 3 game losing streak in the season’s first 50 games. Certainly doesn’t mean this year’s Twins are the only other team to do it. But amongst the top regular season teams in history only the 1902 Pirates, 1927 Yankees, 1939 Yankees, 2001 Mariners and 1907 Cubs did. Next task I think is to look up the season’s for all teams that’s on 100+ games. 1927 Yankees 3 game losing streak in June 4 game losing streak in August 1954 Cleveland Indians Lost games 3-5 and 7-9 of the season in April to start the year 3-6 with two 3 game losing streaks. One more 3 game losing streak in June. 4 game losing streak in July. 1906 Chicago Cubs 3 game losing streak in third week of May. That was it. 1909 Pittsburgh Pirates Lost games 2-4 of the season to start the year 1-3. Had a 4 game losing streak in final week of the season. 1931 Philadelphia Athletics. Lost games 2-4 of the season to (to the Senators) to start the season 1-3. 4 game losing streak in June. 1907 Chicago Cubs 4 game losing streak in third week of June (ended by a tie). 3 game losing streak in September. One streak of two losses followed by a tie (to the Brooklyn Superbas?). 1939 New York Yankees 6 game losing streak in July. 3 more 3 game losing streaks thereafter. One streak of two losses followed by a tie. 1902 Pittsburgh Pirates! Did NOT have a 3 games losing streak in their 142 game schedule. 1887 St. Louis Browns Two 3 game losing streak in June and a 4-gamer in September, one loss-tie-loss streak in July. 1897 Boston Beaneaters Started the year 0-5-1. 1886 Chicago White Stockings 4 game streak in July. 1886 Detroit Wolverines 3 game streak in July and another in August and another 4 gamer in August.
  11. The 2001 Mariners did not have a 3 game losing streak until the third week of September when they had a 4-game losing streak, which came just after they clinched the division and home field advantage. Last year’s Red Sox team lost 3 in a row in April, twice in August, and once in September. Any other candidates I’m not sure of, my baseball memory only goes back to the late 80s. If I’ve committed a commenting faux pas by repeatedly quoting myself please accept my humble remorse.
  12. The ‘98 Yankees started the season 0-3, after that they did not have a 3 game losing streak until losing 4 in a row in the third week of August. They then had one more 3 game losing streak in September and that was it.
  13. Okay that Blue Jays team had 5 3-game losing streaks and one 5-game losing streak (last two losses of that streak to the Twins). Now I’ll check the ‘98 Yankees and ‘01 Mariners and leaving at that.
  14. I know the 1992 Blue Jays were never swept in a season series. Not sure about not having a 3 game losing streak though. This sounds like a visit to Baseball Almanac’s schedule page is in order.
  15. I was at the game where Lew got his first career hit. An opposite field single and I believe he was pinch hitting in the 9th of a game that was out of hand.
  16. The more they win the better that gold trim looks on the uniforms.
  17. No one ever talks about how his real name is Maximilian.
  18. The point is that Arcia's percentages could very well go down by the time he reached 201 PAs.
  19. Yeah, you are talking about 65 plate appearances for Arcia there vs. 201 for Joe though. That's 3 times as many.
  20. To whah extent do you think infield shifting plays into this? Maybe with runners in base teams are less likely to shift to keep the double play in order and hold runners on?
