    A 50 pitch limit for May is about 2-3 innings--the entire bullpen will be run through twice this weekend.

    Post-season play a prerequisite for success? Of course Not--if this was April! It's August now, and it appears that post-season play is "a bridge too far". But was it really? I don't think it was given the situation at the ASB. Why weren't there plenty of "good" options for the bullpen? The Twins draft RPs every year, and sign several more candidates every off-season. The BP should have been a strength for the Twins--not a bleeding ulcer. The Twins have preached (and lived!) a policy of "no walks" by the pitching staff. Yet, the hitters are very free-swinging and pull-oriented, more HRs at the expense of OBP. I like HRs too, but a hitter has to balance his abilities and the situation's needs. There aren't very many Twins that have a "power-hitter's body"--yet most of them act as if they do! Why hasn't management stepped-in to change attitudes? In fact, it looks as if management is actively championing the "big fly" given its rewards to Plouffe and Dozier (and I should include Hunter!).

    I am feeling queezy about this upcoming series--winning even one game would be good. But, that upcoming ten-game road trip? Yikes! It had "Danger, Will Robinson" blaring and with flashing red lights. Things will like get really ugly over the next two weeks with this rotation. They will need to score 11 or so a game.

    I sure hope NOT! The purpose of signing him was: sell tickets due to a familiar name, provide someone that resembles a ML OFer because the Twins were 1+ years away from having three of them, serve as a "mentor" (shoulder to cry on)--whatever for young players (especially non-white players), and a link to the "good times" when the Twins were relevant. That link is unnecessary, the "mentoring" function has "happened"--it's old-hat now, The Twins have the necessary complement of OFers--they have no need for an "over-the-hill" players trying to relive "the glory days". that salary that Hunter would draw--use it to on the bullpen and on another Catcher.

    Do people remember how the Twins "protected" the first baby Jesus? Buxton is #2 and every little owwie he will have will result in "time off".

    Much Ado About Nothing. Buxton was slated to play in AAA for awhile anyway. Rehab assignments are time-limited--either he is returned to "active duty" for the Twins--or he gets optioned. This opens a slot for someone who either will play or is a bench player anyway. Buxton needs to play everyday--and that would not have happened with the Twins--so Minor Leagues it will be! It won't alter the Twins season meaningfully anyway--they will lose early and often with or without him. At least he won't have to wallow in the (bile) with the Twins for awhile.

    Yes, it does. Compare Cleveland's "young players" and Minnesota's "young players"--who played like professional BB players and who was "posing"?

    As the article states (and I agree)--it's not just one or two, or just the bullpen, or all of the pitchers--the problem is pretty much the whole team. Some have posted that Mauer is the #1 problem--NO! Mauer is one problem, but not the #1 problem. Examine the W/L records of the years 2011 to present. Basically pre-ASG the record is below par (exception: this season) and then things go South fast. Why?--That is the #1 problem. Character has to be an issue. Compare to Cleveland, they made major trades--SELLS, and replaced with young guys. Most of those guys hit like the CLE team of the 90's, Why the difference? Some very alarming statistics were in the article--but an explanation really was not provided. In today's and last night's game I noticed Mauer swinging on a 2-0 count when the Twins were way behind. I often notice Dozier fist pitch swinging--even when the team is way behind. True, recovering from big deficits rarely happens--but CLE didn't quite Friday. Give up a six-run inning, and your're a last place team--yet in three innings they are sporting a two-run lead! They didn't quit--and yet they know they are not going to the playoffs. Compare to the Twins' "efforts" Saturday and Sunday--huge difference. Fix the attitude problem or else!

    Shut this dog food ad up!! Amen to Jamiedude2's post . +1. I wanted to wait until these 9 games were played before I vote (Home/home vs CLE and with TEX. I believed if they won 6/9 they were a good team that got ambushed by a better team that is en fuego! 5 wins, a decent team that's better than the nobodies, but not up the elite, but they got en fuego for 5 weeks. Four wins means they are like the rest--and just got really lucky, but they won't die and finish last. Three wins means "They Quit" and last place is not only a possibility but a near certainty.

    Bremer compared the two rotations-- "CLE has 4 strike-out pitchers, while the Twins are still a 'pitch-to-contact' staff." Since Bremer only speaks "the party line", we may infer that not much change has happened in the Twins pitching philosophy--still PtoC.

    Acquiring Jepsen is better than nothing. It wasn't enough! Will the Twins have a bullpen problem next year? Of course they will! Obtaining multiple options for the pen was needed--but didn't happen. It's as if Ryan made the Jepsen trade ..."and called it Macaroni." More help is required.

    He needs to pitch inside more often. While Gibson won't be "an ace" (whatever?) he most definitely can be good. Even stars get "lit-up".

    Q1--I just posted positive--"A team that has hope...". But way too early to just sit back and expect things will just naturally get better. The management (top on down) has to fix holes--not just assume "the best farm system...will turn them into contenders. Will they? I have hope, but the silence from the Front Office (except for "the best farm system...) doesn't inspire confidence. Toronto isn't awesome--but "they believe"--and thus play like they are awesome (for now). The Twins didn't show much fight--but not long ago (pre-ASG) they had plenty of fight. Where did it go? I'm sure it's in there somewhere--but management hasn't done its part (IMO). The next 9 games (against "lesser" opponents) will tell us where that fight is. I have no doubt it will reappear next Spring (positive enough for you?) but leadership is lacking. Leadership starts at The Very Top. It was shown last fall by a commitment to better players (free agents) [another positive!]--but the players need to see more. May '15 earned them that from the Front Office--will they get it? Are there enough Positives in this post for you?

    Umm, More than that! Another power hitter (sorry Arcia isn't him!) to bat behind Sano. Sort of the Manny behind Papi, or Maris behind Mantle... . SS the Twins are seemingly always trying to fill that position. Only briefly was the position properly manned in recent times--and then for about 1.5 years only. Plouffe--is he staying? No contract offer in site. True, Sano can hit--a ton!, but he is unproven in the field. 3B has been another open-wound since Koskie left, except for Plouffe (barely). One hole gets 'fixed"--only to open a new hole. If Buxton the new Joe Bftzphlyk? I hope not--but things aren't looking so bright on the longevity/everyday "Eddie" front. Having the (2nd) best CF is useful if he's generally injured. A second "top" SP--Wow! Those guys grow on trees. Right now this team is a "hope"--which is a huge improvement over the "hopeless" of three years ago--but "good team" is a stretch to describe next year's Twins.
