  1. Like say amateur ballgames where one can watch for 2-3 innings and leave early without feeling they have "overpaid" for entertainment.
  2. Both Steward and Gonsalves need to master an "out-pitch"--ex. Duffey--in order to become an useful starting pitcher. Burdi, because he is a relief pitcher, can succeed with a top fast-ball and a half-decent off-speed pitch provided he has character to withstand the crucible of "high-leverage situations". AB Walker has the most value of this batch (or for that matter all of the "prospects" cited to date). HR hitters are always in demand somewhere. If the Twins don't put him in the line-up this year (I think they should), then they need to bundle him in a trade to meet an urgent need. Polanco is in a tough position. Escobar is Ryan's #1 SS and Ryan hangs-on to his favorites like a dog and a bone. Similarly with Dozier (another Twins' favorite)--he's not going away either. Polanco is blocked. He has to be put in the line-up--or traded soon (this year). There is no sense letting players rot on the vine--play them or trade them.
  3. 1) Not yet. 2) I said "keep one, trade the other". 3) Twins are in need of a second (actually a second and a third) "big-power-hitter" type to complement Sano; neither Hicks or Buxton are that guy--they are in the traditional CF type of player, which though rather valuable, but different.
  4. Like $20MM/year. 10.5 (Hunter)+ 5.5 (Pelfrey) + Balance from team or a trade of Plouffe for youth.
  5. The Twins need a proven OF that will: hit, hit for power, play solid defense, and provide leadership--someone like Cespedes. The savings from Hunter's contract and Pelfrey's contract will cover Cespedes deal. Arcia? DH, PH, and emergency OF use only. Hicks/Buxton? Keep one, trade the other. Be realistic, we're not looking at two Willie Mays here.
  6. This thread brings back memories of a "Joe Benson Thread". Some posters had "adopted [him] as the 'Next Big Thing' " only to learn that the Twins had decided that [he] probably wasn't going to be and others had passed [him] on the list to be the "NBT". Hence, on to Palookaville. I understand it's difficult to accept that [you] made a mistake about the "NBT". But, take solace there are other candidates in the organization that have legitimate (better) claims to become the "NBT".
  7. Q: Why are posters so upset that a "no-stick" infielder might be claimed by another team? That type of player is as plentiful as grass in the suburbs.
  8. It's more than just a bar, ..."Catch, an all-exclusive club...of about 120 seats,...at $75-$85 per ticket". So, not just removing cheap seats for another bar--but for adding 2 bars, one of which requires the patron to purchases a premium-priced seat ($75-$85). I predict an increase in liquor/food sales as a result, not merely a shify from one venue to another. Thus, a pure business decision. Still concerned about "family-priced BB"--take them to any of the amateur league games in the summer. I bet some games are "no admission".
  9. "Family-friendly" and "child-friendly" are euphemisms that have decayed beyond the point of being a mere cliche`, so one shouldn't be upset that DSP uses "blunt" language to announce this change. MLB is a business (and always has been a business) and we all knew that. Quite simply there is more cash to be wrung from adults at a ballgame than from children. Also, there are many adults would prefer their entertainment in "child-free" locales (and horrors)--more exclusive (more expensive) venues to further their enjoyment. Adding bars and more premium seats is designed to do just that (make more profit for the owners). Cynical ? Yes. But MLB is not worthy of any less than the raw truth.
  10. But with the money they saved by not making any trade similar to Hamels, the will build a swell, new bar out in the Center Field Bleachers! Got to think long-term--that bar will be there long after all of the players are gone!
  11. Bautista's throw to 2B--was correct. Cain's continuation home would not have been expected--but Hosmer to 2B is expected. If the throw goes to 1st--Hosmer makes 2B, Cain is held at 3B, and both score on Morales's single! Score KC 5 Tor 3 For the record, I believe the called strike on Revere--was correct!
  12. Take a closer look at Palacios slash--he walked about once in a 100 PA's in E-town. Seems opponents never miss the K-zone when he bats...
  13. This team isn't good enough yet to spend for a #1 pitcher--but a top hitter, definitely. Even if a combination of trades and money (say to make room for said hitter) is needed, I would go down that path. The 2015 success was based on one hot month and the effect Sano had in improving the offense. Some trades and the acquisition of a top hitter, would put the Twins on the brink of success. The two or three years to assemble everyone also "works-off" some of the "Pitcher contracts" thus permitting the acquisition of this (mythical) #1 pitcher. In short, improve the hitting (and hopefully defense) , work-off some high-priced contracts, then get the #1 pitcher and roll the dice.
  14. The premise of #1 starter to win win 2 runs while desirable has to be compared to "spending" the equivalent resources to improve the hitting. Care must be exercised in order to maintain defense/fielding effectiveness while upgrading the hitting. Other threads have claimed that the improvement in starting pitching [effectiveness] is the biggest factor in the team's improvement in wins--but omits to include the overall team defense improvement (nearly all by the OF) as a factor. We've seen the results of substandard OF defense despite better hitting and how negative is the outcome. To conclude: one star pitcher may not make as much of an improvement in "wins" as improvement in the hitting at several positions--for this Twins team. However, when (if?) the hitting is improved, the addition of that #1 pitcher can make a huge difference compared to even better hitting.
  15. It appears that to limit Buxton's service time he would need to stay in the minors next season for 10days plus the number of service days accumulated in 2015.
  16. Yes, I'd like to live in Fantasy World too--where the Twins draft, sign and develop all of the top stars of the game. But, they don't. In fact, they rarely get this type of player. When they do acquire one (or even a distant facsimile of one) the fans (including TD posters) clamor to keep this guy forever or complain long and loud about "losing him". Sadly, I resign myself to live in the real world where Twins players are no where near as good as their fans proclaim.
  17. "Trade or not to Trade ? That is the question."1 I need to know what the offer from the other team is in order to decide! 1) Hamlet (paraphrased), Act III, Scene I.
  18. So, why not research some fWARs from other teams to refute the article?
  19. So desperate.
  20. I can't envision the Twins spending for another SP when the pipeline is full--and more on the way. It is fantasy to think that Nolasco is going away (nobody will pay that salary for the Twins), plus it hasn't been proved that he can't pitch. 2014 was an aberation because the Twins asked him to change his style (2-seam FB and cut-FB replacing a 4-seam FB and a curve). Replacements for veterans (SPs) will come from within. There will be 5 starters and a "spot" guy/ long-reliever. Ryan have previously stated he "likes options". Berrios will begin in the minors and stay there for awhile, but Duffey stays! The pen will have some new names as well as some we saw last year. The "shutdown bullpen" will be built from the (hoped-for) "power arms".
  21. He won't even be pursued. Pohlad already stated "$120MM... after pay raises.." plus "...[i don't like] long-term contracts...". That interview excludes the addition of a Grienke, not to mention Grienke's personal preferences (maybe he fancies LA?). The thread makes grist for the posting mill, but little else.
  22. Ryan has already "laid the groundwork" for informing May of Ryan's "plan" for him--it will happen before Spring training, and it will be "bullpen".
  23. A set-up guy for a regular CF is not a good trade.
  24. The discussion about "5 weeks of hitting" reminds me of Plouffe. I find it comical how people will dismiss Hicks due to a period of concentrated success yet continue to advance Arcia after long periods on concentrated failure. It was painfully demonstrated that Buxton is over-matched at the MLB level. Combine that with a huge incentive for the Twins to reduce his service time in 2016 to obtain greater control it is axiomatic that Buxton starts, and remains, in Rochester until both the service time and "proofing time" contstraints have been achieved. Kepler will also start in the minors for reasons "learned" from Hicks and Buxton major-league "success". All of this points to the Twins actively trying to retain Hunter--for 1/2 of a season!
