  1. does any one honestly believe Ryan will sign any top line pitchers? I predict he'll get a Jason Marquis clone or two, resign Baker, Pavano and Capps and give Nick Blackburn every opportunity in the world to make the rotation and say they are all healthy and that the Twins will be ready to compete! Frightwig-- I think we have a lot of good 'exciting' prospects in the minors right now--just not a lot of pitchers in that category. Thanks TwinsDaily for the birthday wishes:)
  2. Interesting article. Things could play out that way except I really expect Span or/and Morneau to be traded this off season. Justin may have played his last game as a Twin:(
  3. "pitchers jailed for murder in their home country" It was only attempted murder. You should have included UUU-- just for his initials if nothing else.
  4. No Justin? I was hoping they'd give him chance to hit his 20th home run. Maybe Laffey is a tough match up for him.
  5. I think Cabrera will play all three games. I could be wrong-- but Detroit currently has a three game lead on Chicago. If they lose all three games and Chicago wins all three-- tying for first-- I believe that the stats for the game 163 playoff counts for the regular season--- as do the one game wild card stats. So Cabrera would have an extra game to try to clinch the triple crown if needed. The wild card won't come from the Central-- so that is not an issue. Could some one confirm that the stats count? It is highly unlikely this would happen---but stranger things have occurred.
  6. According to baseball-reference.com he was born in Hibbing. But he did grow up in Fargo. He was kind o the reluctant hero and was overshadowed by Mantle, Ford, Berra and the rest. I think he liked it that way! I started following baseball in 1961 as a first grader as it was the Twins first year! I grew up in Austin. Moose Skowron had played for the local amateur team so everybody followed the Yankees and Johnny Blanchard was from Minnesota. Baseball cards on the back of cereal boxes spawned our interest. I liked the '62 Topps baseball cards better! Wood panel with the picture curled up in the corner. I wish I would have kept them-- but they made a great sound in the spokes of our Sting Rays!
  7. I would try to sign him for two years at the 4 million mark and let Capps walk.
  8. It definitely makes sense to trade either Morneau or Parmelee and either Span or Revere. But what makes sense is usually not the Twins Way:)
  9. Major league baseball players have to be confident to be successful. When they struggle-- that confidence may appear to be arrogance. I don't think Plouffe shows any more arrogance than other players. You can never tell about injuries, but it does seem the Twins have more than their share of lingering ones.
  10. Misery loves company. That's why we are here and still following the Twins!
  11. Due to his health-- I don't think Ryan will be able to get much for Span-- even though he has all the positives that you mentioned. I would be very surprised if he is NOT traded, however. I sense that one if not two of Span, Willingham and Morneau will be moved. This would allow playing time for Parmelee and the others knocking at the door. The problem is -- all three have health questions that will affect what the Twins could get in return.
