  1. Maybe if no one tells them it's a postseason game? We should sequester the team in 2021 too and just tell them the regular season extends into October.
  2. I'm going to have to disagree with you there. What was our record without Buxton and Donaldson this year? Certainly not bad enough to cause two consecutive lifeless losses at home, as the favored team, with a favored starting pitching matchup. Odds are, a healthy Buxton and Donaldson would have joined the malaise; at best, they may have occasionally reached base only to be stranded by their teammates. And it's not like other clubs aren't missing players. Houston was missing Yordan Alvarez, Justin Verlander, and Roberto Osuna.
  3. Not quite. The 18 *game* playoff losing streak was born on Oct. 6, 2004. So it's just getting its drivers license next week. The playoff *series* losing streak was born on Oct. 13, 2002, so that can indeed drink Canadian beer in a couple weeks.
  4. It wasn't clear from your post, but the Twins also won game 1 in 2004. Maybe the curse wasn't fully activated until the Red Sox won the World Series? But even before we released Ortiz, things were not quite right in the Twins universe. The 2001 Twins (TK's last season) handled the Yankees just fine, with a 4-2 record. 2002, Gardy's first year, 0-6 including this crazy game: https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/NYA/NYA200205170.shtml That 2002 playoff series win came against Oakland, which is only a slightly less cursed franchise in 21st century baseball (they haven't won a series except against us in 2006).
  5. Do we really think that would matter?
  6. Yup, that's what I was getting at! So we need to re-hire TK next year, and if that doesn't work, we need to re-animate Charles Schultz (unless he was cremated, in which case breaking this curse becomes much trickier).
  7. Curse of Charles Schultz? I guess he died in 2000.
  8. And TK is younger than Dusty Baker. Bring him back!
  9. Just by simple chance, with a single approach, they should probably have more hits by now -- maybe even a few extra base hits. But the Twins batters, thanks to the adjustments they have made throughout the game, have been able to continue hitting pop flies.
  10. Hard to say it's similar without knowing what was said. I imagine there are polite and impolite ways to question the calls...
  11. The camera just showed him cleaning his desk too. (And by desk, I mean the hood of his car.)
  12. Unwritten rules, nobody is supposed to go over the mound except the pitcher! Arraez was just trying to stay far, far away from the mound...
  13. Untrue story: when Rocco was a boy, his father told him he was going to start a baseball game and pitch 6 innings -- and Rocco never saw him again. Actually, maybe it was just his uncle. Or some guy on TV. Either way, the memory stayed.
  14. The camera just showed Rocco cleaning out his desk, collecting all of his Phish stuff, plus some odd looking glass pipes, not sure what those are used for.
  15. For those that don't like the runner-on-second extra inning rule, you can see Cincinnati and Atlanta play in extras right now without it on ESPN.
  16. Can you challenge the third base coach's call on the field too?
  17. Are scoring plays and changes of possession automatically reviewed?
  18. Brooks Raley is an interesting choice. Journeyman mop-up/AAA guy, the Reds traded him to the Astros in August, and the rest of the season he was one of Houston's highest-leveraged relievers.
  19. "Left work" in a seasonal context. Although I'm sure they punched the clock and did some stretching this morning too.
  20. Former Rochester Red Wing Brooks Raley, to be accurate.
  21. I wonder if some Twins are saying this right now too.
