  1. Maybe if the batter-runner disregarded the ump's warning, it could be considered as "confusing, hindering or impeding the fielders"?
  2. Thanks Mike. Actually it was another poster that said below average.
  3. While Berrios didn't throw many innings in MLB last year, I think he threw a lot of pitches. I would guess there is no restriction on his innings this year, unless his performance seriously fades... in which case it's probably a moot point.
  4. I've actually grown to appreciate the losing as well as the winning. A community like TD has been pretty great in that regard, it's fun to post here - win or lose (or draw).
  5. You mean, platooned him? I don't think most of the guys who passed him in my list are getting platooned, they generally just missed some time to injury (or a late call-up like Happ). And most are well above 200 PA. Agreed Dozier is not "below average" as that poster stated, but he is pretty much in the average bucket right now, with few teams looking to buy from that bucket.
  6. I was thinking more last offseason than the current deadline. Also, I didn't say the new FO did nothing, just not much toward the 2017 record which you cited as evidence of progress.
  7. From AA, you'd think there would be a decent chance of his selection in Rule 5. But then again, there always seem to be a bunch of relievers with big K/9 numbers at AA who don't get picked, or get chosen and then returned. Moya is younger than most, but maybe with less overpowering stuff? I would expect he would get protected. Maybe even get a look in MLB yet this season. We don't seem to like most of the relief prospects already in our upper minors.
  8. Still time for the Twins to activate Perkins and serve up another 3 run HR to Murphy when we play Arizona in August!
  9. Moya is leading all AA pitchers in K%, minimum 30 IP. (Drop the minimum to 20, and only Nik Turley bests him ) Although I am not sure how well this correlates to future success, for relievers at least.
  10. Hey, he's going to carry an above .900 OPS into August.
  11. And lost that opportunity because our shallow / shaky bullpen was repeatedly exposed. This is supposed to make us feel better how?
  12. True, although the new FO didn't really have anything to do with that. (And perhaps should have cashed in those vets already?)
  13. Didn't a lot of people say last year's team wasn't a true talent (or lack thereof) 103 loss team?
  14. Games played by players not qualified for the batting title matter too. If you set a 200 PA minimum, Dozier falls to 16th out of 37 in wRC+, and within 10% of 23rd. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=2b&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=200&type=c,4,6,11,21,-1,34,35,40,41,-1,23,37,38,39,50,61,-1,111,-1,203,199,58&season=2017&month=0&season1=2017&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=16,d The larger point seems to be, Dozier doesn't represent enough of an upgrade for enough teams to be a valuable asset in trade right now. Whether he ranks 12th or top half doesn't really matter.
  15. Moya was Rule 5 eligible last winter, and not selected. Which also means he will be Rule 5 eligible this winter. (And of course he is not on the 40-man right now.)
  16. To be fair, when we were 10.5 games behind Detroit in the division in August 2006, we were still in a virtual tie for the wild card.
  17. Gordon is having a solid season, but remember those ranks are in a 10 team league. And only among PA qualifiers, which eliminates guys like Acuna who have had midseason promotions. (It's also apparently the league that Gonsalves can dominate but still get crushed if he was promoted ) There are definitely some cautionary parallels between Gordon and Polanco right now, although perhaps nothing actionable.
  18. How do you get "should have won"? Because they once led?
  19. Do you also think the Twins could hang with the Yankees from 2003-2010?
  20. I think this is selling Polanco short. Here are his full season wRC+ figures after rookie ball: A: 127 A+: 124 AA: 111 AAA: 125 MLB: 101 Not quite his 146 at Elizabethton, but pretty darn solid for a middle infielder age 19-22. I was further encouraged by his reasonably low K rates those seasons -- this wasn't just a guy occasionally connecting off minor league junk who would be easily exposed, he seemed to be a professional hitter. Not sure what has happened this season, though. The modest power has disappeared, and he has gone from a .328 BABIP to a .239 BABIP, among the worst in the league. And I wouldn't be surprised if he is carrying some of that frustration into the field.
  21. Still too much to read into "it would have been nice to have Garver PH there". I don't think anyone is claiming Garver is a savior that is going to catapult us up the standings, but he is doing quite well in AAA and is worth a look, and we have some roster openings where we could give him those opportunities without much trouble. Even conservative Seth says it is time.
  22. How do you get "assume he's Barry Bonds" from "it would be nice to have him PH"? Garver would be the part-time DH, 1B vs LHP, backup catcher.
  23. FWIW, we are now as close to the second to last record in the AL (Oakland) as we are to first place in our division (5.5 games).
  24. How many relievers have been dealt with a 18.9% K rate? League average is 21.6%, for relievers it is 23.3%. Rogers had a nice run this year, and he could be useful in the future too, but I can't imagine many teams that would be excited to add him for their pennant race right now, especially with how he has looked the last week. Kintzler too, really (14.6% K rate).
