  1. There is dialogue in Chinese with subtitles, but I think the majority was in English. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I was able to understand.
  2. There are all sorts of problems with this theory, I can’t even begin to enumerate them all.
  3. It’s charming and funny. The main character is the same actress who played the very quirky cousin in Crazy Rich Asians. Takes a very different role here, in a good way.
  4. The fact that he is (legitimately) in the conversation for this is kind of the point, and, in and of itself, quite remarkable. All that, and no one can really pronounce his name, either!
  5. I thought The Farewell was excellent.
  6. Actually it’s about 65-70% likely that they score a run with runners on second and third with one out. The average run expectancy with that situation is 1.4 runs.
  7. The toughest thing to stomach is that it would have been such a huge boost to walk off that game after being down two in the ninth against Hand. It’s almost like blowing a 9-3 lead to the Yankees.
  8. Minor a quibble with the recap. I don’t know if the catcher would have been going for lunch after filling his car with gas. Maybe a blue plate special dinner?
  9. That was tough. That was as close to a two-game error by Tony Diaz imaginable. How do you turn an amazing rally with a huge chance for a walk-off victory into a fizzle?
  10. Thank you Brian, that was an excellent summary of the season race between the Indians and the Twins. The one stat that jumped out at me was the team going 9-15 (now 10-15) with Buxton out.
  11. I was out of the country for four days, and the four run lead is gone. On the bright side, I’m back! So they can get back to winning. Going against Clevinger and Bieber is tough. Looks much better against Plutko and Civale. It really hurts to have Cruz and Buxton our fir this series. Let’s hope for at least a split over today and tomorrow, maybe even two. The was a tough week with seven games against the Braves and Indians. 1-6 would be bad. 2-5 would be unsurprising, 3-4 would be fine.
  12. AlwaysInModeration likes Only Here In Negative’s post and screen name. Welcome to the site!
  13. I wonder what the actual asking price for Wheeler or F Vasquez was. In general I am happy with the deadline, picking up two clear upgrades for the bullpen while not giving up any of the top 6-8 guys I was loathe to lose (Lewis, Kiriloff, Brusdar, Balazovic, Arraez, Duran, Larnach, and Cavaco.) Just wondering if something like Rooker and Gordon or Javier and Enlow would have landed either of the two guys I mention above.
  14. Interesting you write this. This offseason I really wanted to put $100 down on the Twins to win the World Series. The first line I saw was 100-1. After they signed Cruz and Parker (kidding) it dropped to 70-1. I never got around to it (and frankly, don’t really know how), but it would have been a fun thing to follow.
  15. Ok, there are eight hours left. I’m setting the over/under for new Twins by the end of the day at 1.5. What’ve you got?
  16. Is it bad that I’d never heard of Franmil Reyes before yesterday? Puig I’d heard of, but man, sure seems like the Indians traded out of the frying pan and into the fire there. I think I’ve said this before, but as long as the Twins don’t trade Lewis, Kiriloff, Graterol, Balazovic, Cavaco, Duran, and Arraez, I think they can get some really useful arms today. Some combination of Larnach, Javier, Rooker, Gordon, Thorpe, Smeltzer, Romero, Gonsalves and Enlow can net a nice return.
  17. Kind of seems like Romo has an impeccable track record. Good move. Diaz might have been something, I suppose, but seems like a good deal worth a shot. Getting a live arm in return, too, bonus.
