  1. Clearly Hitler was an extreme example (I believe I said as much). But we're gonna have to agree to disagree on the kid thing. Although, honestly, I've not spanked my kid in a LONG time. However, when she was little a swift pop on the pamper butt got her attention real quick. Again, we'll just agree to disagree inspite of what the research shows. Also, violence has been a part of human society and culture since the beginning. It exists in nature as well. I think we arrogantly believe that we must eliminate violence in order to be "civilized". But that debate is for an entirely different website altogether. So, I'll be done with that now. Thanks for the debate though!
  2. I guess I'm just in the camp that believes sometimes someone (including myself) needs to get punched in the mouth. Its like a reset button. I'm sure it doesn't always reset, but sometimes that's exactly what it takes. Violence CAN solve some problems (think Hitler, extreme example). A less extreme example would be that screaming kid who is throwing a tantrum because they aren't getting that toy at Walmart. Sometimes that kid needs a tanned hind end before they understand that we don't act that way when we don't get our way.
  3. So the fist fights in hockey are part of the way the game is played? Not talking checking. Talking gloves off, punching in the throat and face. FIST. FIGHTS.
  4. It seems like some folks want to classify it as a kids game simply because its termed a "game". Its fun (for those that have some skill), but does that make it a "game"? Under the broadest definition, isn't everything we do kind of a game in itself? Is there not competition against someone or something? Are there not obstacles to overcome in every job? Are you not having fun at your job, therefore, its not a game? Ever heard some guys retire from sports because it "wasn't fun anymore"? I've heard the same phrase (and experienced it myself) from people in the Military. Like mike wants wins alluded to, playing baseball at the highest level (or any level) is difficult and requires hours and hours of work (like almost any proffession or anything in life). Don't try to trivialize what those have done to get to where they are and do what they do for a living. Ultimately, if you don't like it, go watch junior high school janitors mop floors and clean toilets. Its a lot less violent, thus less childish AND it costs a lot less.
  5. Violence does not equal childish behavior. Sometimes things need to be settled that way. I guess no one here likes hockey fights, UFC, Boxing, Martial Arts, etc? I'm not advocating free-for all; it should be settled in a controlled environment and within reason. Nor am I saying that those involved shouldn't have some third-party imposed penalty (fines, short-termed suspension, etc). But for Pete's sake, stop trying to wussify every damned aspect of life!
  6. I think it would be closer to something like a competitor doing that rather than a co-worker. And in a highly competitive, testosterone-driven industry. I think I fall more in line with what you're advocating. Let the players sort this out. Anyone remember the Sano benching a couple years back, after he show-boated after an absolute BOMB? The coaches did that becuase you DON'T DO THAT. Destroy the pitch. Put your head down. Run your bases. Celebrate with your team in the dugout or on your way back to the dugout, or at the plate. DO NOT TAUNT THE OPPOSING TEAM. It's unbecoming and unprofessional. If you do, expect to get what's coming to you. Throwing at someone is the consequence; you want to avoid that situation? Act right.
  7. Keep it coming Seth and John! We ask and you guys deliver! Format is fun! Let's see what we can do in game 2!
  8. Maybe include some video/gif to illustrate your points? I guess were getting into more of a key play-by-play analysis much like I would expect from BIG NAMED NETWORKS of which we shall not speak their names. I'm sure you guys get enough of it on FoxSports North (oops) but I dont get that while on the road or even at home in the great state of Tennessee. I come to Twins Daily for all Twins news and analysis because you guys really are the best at it! Ever think about a live TV/Radio show where you guys break down games from both the MLB Team and the affiliates? Obviously that's pretty resource intensive, and I'm not sure of the demand, but, I would buy the subscription in a heartbeat!
  9. John, great post game write-up! I really like this format (as I don't get to watch many games). Maybe Twins Daily could turn this into a regular thing next year but maybe just do the top 5 plays/bottom 5 plays after each game. It might take a lot of work, but its kind of in the same vein as the daily Minor League Report (and wouldn't be quite as long I would think). Fun format! Perhaps you guys could test it out this next week and into the playoffs (PLAYOFFS?!?) if the Twins make it?
  10. And that AAA Lefty SP's name is Taylor Rogers...dominate against Lefties.
  11. Every game for the month of September has to be viewed as a Playoff Game...that may get mentally exhausting but if the Twins want to make the actual Playoffs (PLAYOFFS?!) then they should treat each remaining game as a must win. Focusing on Series Wins must now transition to Game Wins. Every game counts! Go Twins! Light up Kluber tonight and send Cleveland packing tomorrow with their tails tucked between their legs and the bitter taste of defeat in their mouths!
  12. I had put spaces in...don't think they took...it looks pretty ugly.
  13. Sign Wieters (SP?) in the offseason for 3-4 years. As far as the Bullpen goes; I think i remember seeing someone post that our Bullpen is and will be one of themost expensive in MLB. That needs to change. Perkins, Jepsen, May for sure. I bet Milone figures to be in the rotation or the long relief guy. Rotation of Hughes, Santana, Gibson, Duffey, Nolasco/Berrios sounds about right. I can't remember the name of the lefty starter in AAA who doninates Lefties but I wonder if he and/or O'Rourke could be our other lefties along with Perkins. Guys like Pressley help round out the rest of the pen. Then there is also Darnell, Dean, etc. who help provide some depth at SP. I also suspect Nolasco is the first one on the trading block next year (regardless of what we can get for him). That move is an addition by subtraction type move. Outfield will be a 4 person mix of Hicks, Rosario, Buxton, Arcia, and Kepler. Infield will be Plouffe, Escobar, Dozier, Mauer, Sano (DH), Vargas (Bench), Santana (Bench) Catchers Weiters, Suzuki Rotation: Hughes, Santana, Gibson, Duffey (will win 14+ games if he has 32 starts), Nolasco/Berrios Pen: Perkins, Jepsen, May, O'Rourke, Lefty from AAA, Pressley, Milone 92-94 wins Book it!
  14. At this point, it would be an atrocity if Duffey isn't in the Starting Rotation next year. That kid looks good!
  15. 100% agree. Its Mauer that kind of clogs things up a bit. Once Kepler becomes the 4th OF/1B in the next couple of years, the Mauer issue will become even more glaring. Add in Vargas (if he figures things out) and Arcia (see Vargas) and ABWII (see Vargas and Arcia)...yikes! Gonna have to figure something out.
  16. 6 man rotation with Berrios in it would have kept him within his innings limit. I think some team full of young pitching talent from somewhere in the great state of Texas implemented the same tactic.
  17. My question is, why weren't all three games sold out at Target Field this weekend?! That was essentially playoff baseball-must win-late-season meaningful games! What's going on?
  18. Mauer....Damn it. I think I'd rather see Plouffe at 1B and Mauer on the bench. He just doesn't do anything for me. With Kepler and ABW2 (whom I thought was originally a pretty good defensive 1B) waiting in the wings, it may be smart to hild onto Plouffe until one of those two are ready. Can you Imagine having a rotation of Buxton, Rosario, Hicks, Kepler ABW2, Plouffe for OF/1B/DH?! And I left out Vargas if he figures thisngs out. Where does/should Mauer fit? I say, early retirement and go join your brother on one of the Twins' coaching staffs somewhere. Earn that $23mm in another way for the Twins Organization. Enjoy your family, you're still a young man and there is no shame in hanging up the spikes and trading them in for those really comfortable managerial tennis shoes. So don't trade Plouffe. Trade Arcia instead. Especially if he has a strong Spring Training. And again, Mauer should step up...and step down.
  19. Not able to watch the game...how did Sano look in the field that first inning?
  20. Its almost like he reads Twins Daily....um, daily.
  21. And that ball was down around the knees...atta boy Brian!
  22. ABW II should be considered for promo to AAA. Elevated level of pitching and hit him either in front of or behind Arcia until one gets promoted. Probably ought to bring up Kepler to AAA, too (once he comes of DL). Harrison should be right behind them or start next year in AAA. Not sure who they have in the OF at AAA now, but, time to move these three up.
  23. Articles like this is why I live on this site! Parker, thanks for the analysis.
  24. Looks like Kepler could be a fantastic alternative to Joe Mauer at 1B. Call him up, send Mauer to post concussion DL.
