  1. I'd say Todd Frazier is more in the top 8-10 range among 3B. The Sox better hope that he's the guy from the first half of the year because the guy from the second half is below replacement level. I'd say this trade is probably worth the risk though.
  2. He was terrible in the 2nd half last year: .220/.274/.390 (.664). He only posted a .309 OBP for the year too.
  3. I totally agree. Especially when Danny Santana can be the 4th outfielder, but Benson should not be on an opening day roster, even if he goes all Hicks on spring training.
  4. May, along with Duffey, are the only starters who have the potential to strike guys out. May was probably better than his ERA as a starter showed last year.
  5. I really doubt that one of those bullpen guys will open the season with the Twins.
  6. At least he's got a good mentor on how to professionally handle a demotion in Tommy Milone. Oh wait...
  7. This is disappointing news, but it might be the best short term plan. Now if the Twins already had or do make a significant addition to the bullpen later this offseason, then I would want May in the rotation where he would be an upgrade to the current no. 5 options.
  8. I've read that he's fairly raw (I know it's shocking to read that a freshman quarterback is raw), and that he will probably redshirt. Leidner has shown some progress, but I'd rather see Demry Croft or Green get a shot.
  9. I'm looking forward to the day when the Twins bring in guys from the bullpen who aren't described as "he's got a good low 90's sinking fastball and a nice changeup." I want to hear "he's got upper 90's gas with a wipeout slider."
  10. Johnny Cueto signed with the Giants for 6 years and $130M. I think that counts as a bargain. The NL West is stacked.
  11. I'm not opposed to Beltran making the HOF because he will have over 2500 hits, 400 HRs, and 300 steals, with good defense. The argument against, though, is that he wasn't really regarded as one of the "best of the best" players currently playing, as evidenced by him only having two top ten MVP finishes.
  12. According to BBref, Mauer has a 47.8 career WAR. The average of the 13 catchers in the HOF is 52.5. He should easily get up over 2200 career hits and maintain a BA over .300. His three batting titles as a catcher should be enough to get him in. Plus, there's still the chance that he turns it around and have another season batting over .300 or something.
  13. I love listening to interviews that he does after games. He seems really driven to be great, and he seems like a great guy too.
  14. I didn't realize his playoff ERA was that high. That being said, winning one of the best baseball games in the history of the world makes up for it in my mind. If I wasn't a Twins fan though, I probably wouldn't like the precedent that having a guy with a 3.91 ERA in the HOF sets. I like the exclusivity that it has.
  15. I'm hoping for several 40 and 50 HR seasons, so I'll predict an 8 year, $225M contract.
  16. That's fair, but his counting stats were boosted some there. I like to look at that for HOFers and I think voters do too.
  17. Those are some interesting and kind of surprising stats. Still, I would have hoped that Morris' playoff heroics would have counted for more. And c'mon guys, Morris pitched to the scoreboard.
  18. His batting and RBI title was won in Colorado, We've seen how easy those have come by for Rockies players lately.
  19. I think Cano is a good bet. Already with 2000 hits. Should finish with over 3000 and over 350 HRs with good defense at second.
  20. I think Holliday is more of a Hall of Very Good. Not going to be enough counting numbers to get in (maybe 350 HRs and 2500 hits) with below average defense and a little help from Coors.
  21. No chance for Mark Buerhle. If Jack Morris can't get in, then Buerhle and his 3.81 ERA shouldn't either. David Wright isn't very likely either. He's only got 1700 hits, no MVPs, and probably is on the decline.
  22. You mentioned something that I'm confused by. Why is there so little media talk about David Ortiz and steroid use? That suspicion and him being a DH should make it a really tough case for him being a HOFer.
  23. I'm going to start with some disagreements from the original post. Pitchers: Justin Verlander is not a HOFer. The MVP and Cy Young was great, but the 3.52 career ERA isn't. 20 % chance Tim Lincecum has two Cy Youngs, but a 3.61 ERA and too short of a peak. 1% chance. Jered Weaver was very good, but not a HOFer. 0% chance. Hitters: Josh Donaldson is already 30 years old, has "just" 104 career homers. 5% chance. Victor Martinez. Less than 1% chance. Jimmy Rollins. Less than 5% chance. Ryan Braun. Negative 100% chance. Matt Holliday. Less than 1% chance.
  24. Shawn Kelley signed a one year deal with the Nats. He probably would've been another good guy to add.
  25. At least not signing someone is better than signing someone like Tim Stauffer.
