Skal Labissiere is terrible right now. I really like what I've seen from Ellenson, and he's probably more realistic where the Wolves will actually pick around #10.
I'm going to disagree with the original prediction of Berrios not being up until August. I would predict more in May or June at the latest. I'm very optimistic about this year. 89 wins.
I guess that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, but with Arcia already being the 4th outfielder, I don't know where another OFer would fit or be needed. If the young guys aren't ready, call up the next one- Kepler.
I don't understand all the add a veteran outfielder talk. That just adds another guy to block Buxton and Kepler, even if it was just a one year deal guy. This team has had a top 3 farm system for years. Let them play. That's where the improvement will come from.
There's a reason why they did nothing with the pitching. They have young guys in Berrios and Duffey ready to contribute, and there's reasonable hope that Phil Hughes bounces back, to go along with a solid Gibson and Santana.
This losing streak is frustrating, but the play of Towns is incredible. Rubio was awesome last night too. I'm also starting to really like Lavine in his current Jamal Crawford role, but I wonder what he would look like as the starting two.
Actually I agree with you on the second point, but that seems to be changing. Having one below average outfielder paired with two really good ones in an effort to boost the offense seems like a good idea to me.
Byron Buxton was also seeing his first major league pitching and having his season interrupted by injury and coming off a lost season. I think it's pretty easy to see an upgrade and CF in 2016.
And the Twins don't? Rosario and Buxton are top tier fielders. Plouffe is staying at third largely because he's a good defender. So you're saying that Schwarber is such a terrible defender, that it doesn't matter where they play him? I've read that he could be an average defensive catcher.
Arcia posted a better OPS than Hunter's just two years ago. Last year the DH spot had 21 HR and 82 RBI with a .759 OPS, I think that's a reasonable optimistic stat line for Park. Last year CF had a ..656 OPS, I think Buxton/Santana/Rosario can easily top that.
The genius Cubs are putting a horrific defender in Kyle Schwarber in the outfield because he isn't great at his natural position and is blocked by a slightly above average player at that position. Sound familiar?
I would say that Arcia has the potential to be a big upgrade over Hunter. Park at DH for a year is probably about the same or better hopefully as Sano/nothing for half the year. This guy named Byron Buxton has the chance to be a decent player too.
This year's offense should be much better than last year's. Eduardo Escobar for a full season, Byung Ho Park, John Ryan Murphy, Oswaldo Arcia bouncing back hopefully, and oh yeah two top ten prospects spending the whole year with the team.
I think the whole question of should it be Mauer or Sano who moves to the outfield is overstated. I'm sure they'd both be fine out there, but Sano probably has a chance to be better. I don't think that Sano is the type of guy who will let playing in the OF affect who he is at the plate either. And for everyone clamoring to trade Plouffe, this lineup looks really good the way it currently stands.
I don't understand how Sano's minor league stolen base numbers are a good reflection of his athleticism. How about referencing him topping 20 mph on a triple this year instead. As far as being an outfielder wearing him down, really? If a 23 year old can't stand/run around in the outfield for a few hours a night, then we've really got some problems.
