  1. I sure wouldn't. I don't think Polanco or Vielma or anyone north of Rookie ball is anywhere near as good. This would only prolong the revolving door.
  2. Next year, please have Judge hit first in a round so we can see ust how many bombs this guy could hit in a full 4:30. He sure made it look easy. 519'?
  3. Lavelle had an article today - doesn't look like #11 is signed, or any of the guys we don't know already. http://www.startribune.com/twins-shift-draft-money-allotment-to-help-sign-more-players/432574743/#1
  4. Not sure about the rotation, but why the heck not the bullpen? The Twins never used to be shy about getting their guys in those 5th starter - relief spots: Perkins, Duensing, Swarzak, Manship, Robertson, Burnett, Crain, Mijares, etc. Most those guys debuted 23-24 ish, and some went on to fine careers. Bard should be up, and Curtiss too. Two of the better guys in the pen currently also follow that pattern, in Duffey and Rogers. Going to the scrapheap for retreads works once in a while, Kintzler, Burton, Fien, but I would give priority to the guys drafted and developed here. All the more so for spot starts: more Felix, less Tepesch.
  5. I got to watch Felix pitch an inning in that ill-fated move to the pen in Cedar Rapids. As I recall, he looked pretty smooth and easy out there on the mound. Rooting for him.
  6. So that 20 second decision he mentions, was that the agent asking if he'd sign for that slot?
  7. Granite is hitting .365. Next best BA in the International League is .316. His OPS of .931 is second. Given his speed and defense, solid looking prospect, no pun intended.
  8. Treat yourself to the Boston Pops 4th of July concert with fireworks, right on the banks of the river Charles. Hot crowded and messy as hell.
  9. Spent a year in Boston back in the day - the school I attended was near Fenway, and often on my way to Kenmore Square to catch a green line train, the game would be in the late innings in the case of afternoon starts. Pre-Papi Red Sox opened the gates after the 7th inning, so you could just walk in, which I did several times. Got to see KC Gary Gaetti his a grand slam off Clemens on such a day. I bought a ticket to see the Twins there, and after 4 innings the skies opened up and it poured and poured, for hours. I started walking around picking up ticket stubs, which in those days were rain checks, redeemable for a future game ticket, not a makeup game. I had about 30 in my hands, feeling giddy with all the ballgames I'd go to, when after 3 hours they restarted the game, 11:30 pm. Twins and Scott Erickson took the loss. It, well, it was a bummer man. I love me some Fenway.
  10. That Latroy Hawkins in the booth? Like what I hear so far after just tuning in.
  11. I thought that as well the other day - found his twitter, which made me feel better: Can't post a damn twitter, so he said: "Such an unbelievable feeling right now, a dream come true, thank you to the @Twins for this amazing opportunity! #Twins @MLB."
  12. There are a lot of MLB draft millionaires out there who never played a single game in the Major Leagues. NHL has a much better system with the Entry Level Contract, <1 million per for 3 years, no negotiations. The bonuses in MLB are absurd/obscene.
  13. Was just looking at the size of the bonus pools for the Al Central: Minnesota has 14.1 million. Cleveland - 3.8 Chicago - 7.9 Detroit - 6.5 Kansas City - 8 Had no idea there was that much divergence. St. Louis has a mere 2.1 million, about what the Twins 3rd rounder will get. It will be interesting to see if this leads to some sort of competitive balance down the road.
  14. 1st place in mid-June: signs that it is sustainable. I like it. Please tho Levine, no Capps, Jespen deals. Try our system. Can't be any worse.
  15. I think some folks' opinion of this draft depends a lot on who's opinion they are holding to, especially since most of us have seen very few of these guys in action. If you think Keith Law is the guru, then you probably think the Twins whiffed. Baseball America followers have much more to be excited about. MLB followers are probably middle of the road. Sickels, Fangraphs...I see these names and opinions all over the place. I'm guessing the Twins had access to much more detailed information about these guys on and off the field than you would get from any top 100 list pushed on the internet. Their strategy of mixing high-end signability at a savings with HS top talent seems pretty spot on to me so far. This is what I would do with the largest pool. Still some nice talent on the board tomorrow as well.
  16. Hear hear Nick. I do think the bat will come around, as well as the Gold Gloves. His range is just nuts, and he almost always reels in what he chases after. Just fearless out there: Bill Brown69 sums up my fears for his health quite well .
  17. That is probably exactly what they are doing, according to their list at least.
  18. I dunno, Johan Santana, Torii Hunter, Cuddyer...all were traded or let go because money was an issue. Even Ortiz was let go to avoid arbitration and the inevitable raise it would have brought.
  19. Wouldn't it be nice to have some high end guys waiting in the wings if that core is broken? Sustainability. Baseball is rarely about drafting for present needs. BTW, wasn't Target Field built so the Twins could keep their best players?
  20. Mike, I couldn't disagree more. Rebuilding, sellinig high, that is the philosophy of a losing team. Winnng teams keep their best players, then eat costs if a player goes south before the contract is over, or they let em go via FA. Santana is exceeding the value of his contract - as is Sano, even Dozier. Trading Santana = another losing season. Why even bother signing the guy if it just to flip him for more porspects? I thought Mike Wanted Wins
  21. Right on - right near ther gaslight district. SD is a fantastic place, especially to a beer ond ocean lover.
