  1. Sure, the money was good, but would you equate that signing to a multi-year deal for a guy in his prime like Greinke or Sanchez that are being trotted out in this thread?
  2. Jack was 36, coming off 2 losing seasons, with an ERA approaching 5 when the Twins signed him. It was very typical Twins free-agent signing, taking a flier on a guy on the decline with a 1 year deal, not a "dollars and years" elite free agent signing.
  3. True, it's just my opinion. But it's based on years of observation. Name me a top shelf free agent from outside the organization who signed with the Twins. Then name me one who signed with the Twins when they weren't contenders. I'll await your response. As for Detroit, reigning AL champs, stacked rotation, likely to get to the post-season. You'll have a good chance to win with that team.
  4. Well, I am sure there are guys like him - frankly, he is a mercenary. On his 4th team in 4 years; if I am paying out big-bucks, I want a more solid citizen than Zack Greinke.
  5. Yeah, I expect to see a lot of signings announced this week.
  6. What about the man of mystery, Rich Harden? Will he pitch this year? Trading Correia may be a great example of buy low sell high, but only if they get something good. Pelfrey might be a keeper. Isn't he less removed from Tommy John than Baker, who has yet to pitch for the Cubs? He ran out of gas and got torched in the late-middle of games, but now he is getting further into them. I want Gibson to start some games for the Twins THIS season; Give him some some direct experience so he has a clue next spring what it's all about. 26 year old rookie, hurrumph!
  7. It seems to me that the Twins haven't exactly been in the position to sign high-end free-agents, coming off a couple disastrous seasons. I'll put on my Captain Obvious helmet here: Free-agents are a 2 way street - I get a lot of vibes from these threads that TR ands the Twins aren't trying. If i was a free agent, I'd be looking for a payday, but I'd also be looking for a chance to win. Two 90+loss seasons in a row are kind of a turn-off, to say the least. Sanchez, the patron saint of this thread (besides Perk), why would he sign here, when in Detroit he can join Verlander, Scherzer, Fister, etc.? He had a brilliant opportunity there to be part of a stud rotation. In Minnesota, he'd be expected to be the savior, and it's pretty obvious that the Tigers are the power in the Central. Guys like him and Grienke aren't gonna sign here. Period. Middle market, losing seasons, fly-over zone, what's the attraction? It's been said in this thread that FAs should be that missing piece when you are in a position, and I agree completely. Gladden, Chili Davis, Morris, that's how and when you add. Keeping Perkins just is good business unless you are looking for perpetual rebuild mode and competing for BA's #1 farm system.
  8. I wouldn't trade Perkins, mainly for the same reasons people say is good trade bait: he's good, and has a nice contract. I also disagree that a good closer is a luxury for a middling team - if you want to instill a winning culture, there is nothing more deflating than blowing leads.
  9. Yaay - maybe the Twins will have another surplus: CF, now 3b. Keep her going Trevor.
  10. Pretty good - there are teams that would be thrilled to have your HMs.
  11. I am sooo glad that Molitor is part of the Twins organization. He has always been the consummate professional.
  12. Very nice read - thank you Seth.
  13. Ah, missed him; was looking at the top ten picks. Cool, another one to keep an eye on. That is an odd coincidence on the roommates thing ... or is it???
  14. ESPN ran this story - sound like it's all but signed sealed and delivered: 2013 MLB draft -- Kohl Stewart to sign with Minnesota Twins, passes up Texas A&M football - ESPN
  15. Eades with LSU, and Slegers and DeMuth with Indiana. Gives me somethng to root for anyways.
  16. Great news all around. This will be a good test for him.
  17. So, did anybody watch him vs. Oklahoma yesterday? I saw one inning, and he looked okay, fastball sitting around 90, good breaking ball. Then the rains came and I turned it off.
  18. Bert Blyleven would not approve of this thread I agree with the OP in that Pelfrey often has a hard time in the 6th inning and ruins what had been a very good start up to that point. It's probably more problem of make-up and pitching savvy on the part of our starters than anything Gardy is doing.
  19. Man, 4 pitchers and a catcher. BPA and need seem to be converging here.
  20. I like having some pitching at all levels - hopefully this kid develops and we got ourselves a live one here.
  21. Adding Bryant to the Twins' offensive stable could render pitching irrelevant. A few years from now, the Twins will just bludgeon their opponents into dust. 11-10 might be a common score. As long as you have one side of the game nailed down.... How good is Bryant on breaking balls? Any TV coverage tonight?
  22. Mills seemed like a real safe pick at the time, son of a pitching coach. great college career, lefty, good size. Sometimes good picks don't pan out.
  23. 4 times this season Pelfrey has had the wheels come off in the 6th inning after 5 very good innings. Sometimes Gardy leaves them in too long.
