  1. Catcher Drew Butera was called up from Triple-A Rochester to take Mauer's place on the roster. Outfielder Oswaldo Arcia, who was also a possibility to replace Mauer, left Tuesday's game with Rochester in the third inning, but it was because he felt dizziness. 2. In the last 7 seasons, Garza has never finished a season with an ERA that started with a number greater than 3. During that time he's never had an ERA+ under 100. If he stays healthy, he'll give you close to, if not, 200IP. Texas wanted him last year, they got him this year. I wouldn't be supriised if they extend him. He's a very valuable starter.
  3. We got this cult thing going on with this team where walking batter to start the inning is like the worst thing ever. As if a leadoff single in an inning isn't as likely to score as a leadoff walk. Actually, it's any walk, but a leadoff walk? THE HORROR!
  4. This is how it works. Correia is a success because of his April...so we can look at his season ERA so far and because of that ridiculously nice April, it looks (relatively) good. In other words, only slightly below league average for the season instead of way below league average since May. Pelfrey has been a success because of what he's done the last month. The parameters slide back and forth to fit the argument.
  5. My issue has less to do with the time he sent someone he shouldn't than the time he didn't send someone he should. Too conservative. Need to force the issue more. Then again, being aggressive isn't exactly the coaches and upper management's ways.
  6. 3 YEARS FROM NOW, People will still be saying it's not the right time to spend to get quality FA.
  7. Could it be that he's just not that good? I mean, when you give up more hits than IP AND can't strike out anyone, isn't it possible that eventually that will catch up with you?
  8. A team should always be looking to get better. Even the very good teams look to get even better.
  9. Braun has been suspended for remainder of the season.
  10. We don't know they are actually doing anything yet. Kicking tires isn't doing anything. Do, or do not. There is no try.
  11. Going the extra mile...thanks, man!
  12. here's an article with him saying he's love to go to Baltimore. Much has been made about Saunders’ Northern Virginia roots and the pleasure he derived last season pitching at Camden Yards in front of friends and family. “First and foremost, I’d like to come back to Baltimore and do some great things in 2013. But, from my standpoint, my hands are kind of tied. I pay my agent to do his job and hopefully it all works out.” “Obviously, I’d like to go to a contender,” said Saunders, who allowed just two runs in two postseason starts for the Orioles in 2012. “That’s what I want to do. That would be the most important thing, to compete for a division title and get another playoff burst like we did in 2012.” Joe Saunders says he'd 'love to come back to Baltimore' - Baltimore Sun
  13. Interesting. Thanks for the insight.
  14. Well, I was just just joking, but want to elaborate? The guy is from Virginia, went to VTU did he not? Didn't his wife also go to VTU? What family reasons were there?
  15. I don't know, maybe. I don't remember hearing that, but it's certainly possible...I wouldn't doubt it. Maybe we should try and get Smyly. I have a feeling he'd be our ace and he can't crack the Tigers' rotation. :-)
  16. fair enough, though Ryan traded Castillo just to save 1M in 2007. I appreciate the facts check, though. I hadn't considered Hughes salary.
  17. I didn't say you said it, I was just asking what you thought. With that pokerface, not sure what you think :-)
  18. Why? You don't end up paying 6M of Morny's contract and you have a window to sign Hughes no one else has.
  19. Obviously, Saunders preferred to go to a team that's been going to the playoffs a lot more lately than we have. Better chance to win over there...
  20. You think he's better than Smyly?
  21. If you were counting on Norris to not kill your team, there were other problems on that team. just sayin' :-)
  22. A little off topic but since you brought up Detroit's rotation, why do you think Leyland sticks with Porcello when they have Smyly?
  23. They likely weren't interested until this happened :-) Anyway, his WHIP suggests that ERA is a mirage. Even so, he moved to the AL and his ERA+ is better than he's ever finished a season with. So that's something I guess.
  24. Maybe he dropped the 4th one.. Moses: The Lord, the Lord Jehovah has given unto you these fifteen... [drops one of the tablets] Moses: Oy! Ten! Ten commandments for all to obey!
  25. Pitchers, pitchers and more pitchers. When we're done with that, then let's go get some more pitchers :-)
