  1. Got a chuckle out of Ruesse yesterday. They were talking about AJ, his longevity et al, and it was noted AJ has over 2200 hits. At 39 years old, he's liable to play one more year. So Ruesse says AJ will probably be on the HOF ballot for a number of years, and wouldn't it be funny if AJ made it and Joe didn't. That would be classic! On a side note, AJ had Sano totally confused as to what pitch was coming last night. He just toyed with him.
  2. Anyone hear Greg Gagne interview last night when asked what the key was for the '87 and '91 WS teams? His answer was a very good veteran starting pitcher, Blyleven, then Morris. I'd say the same holds true for any team having success and Santana is the only pitcher we have to carry forward.
  3. Could be the longest game thread in history! Looks like something was seriously wrong!
  4. Can Santana pitch again tonight? you know, just to up his trade value?
  5. Last night was a perfect example of one way to determine effectiveness. Complete game, 2 runs allowed. Wins get you to the post season, and I'll bet he gets more than 3 wins next year, he's our best pitcher. Build a rotation around him. Trade any of the others in the rotation, either way, we will have to go after pitching in the off season. And it'll probably cost more than what we are paying Santana. Brooks says; At his age, he's walking a tight rope. At some point he's going to decline severely, and it often happens overnight. It could be tomorrow, it could be in 3 years, I don't know. Agree to disagree on the return. I actually think that if we paid almost all of his remaining contract, we could get a pretty solid return. I don't expect this team to compete next year, so to me the question is, do you expect him to be this good for another full year? I wouldn't take that bet. So Brooks is guessing that Santana could decline severely next year, and admits he doesn't expect the team to compete next year. Also that we could pay almost all of his remaining contract. Why would we do that when it'll cost us much more than that to not only replace him, but to add at least 2 more pitchers to the rotation? Make no sense to me. Who knows how this GM situation will play out, but the Twins very well could compete next year, they've got worse to first before. Getting rid of your best pitcher isn't the way to go about it. I think Antony is speaking what he believes.
  6. Yes, and I'd take that bet. 3 wins? Easily more valuable next year. And cheap at that.
  7. I guess this series will tell us where we stand with the Braves, small sample size be damned.
  8. Well we should hang on to Santana. I can see Gibson going, along with Nolasco.
  9. You just answered your own question.
  10. That was a very good article. Obviously I don't agree with some folks.
  11. For anyone watching, did you see the guy with the striped shirt on that Molitor walked past as he climbed the steps to go on the field? He's got the best job in baseball. He's the team barber.
  12. And more action as my boy goes yard!
  13. Just a little action going on in this game.
  14. The first thing Antony should do is get rid of Plouffe. Not that that would save his job, just something that should of been done 3 years ago and it cost TR his job.
  15. I could never root against my team. Play your best and play out the season. The teams been watchable lately.
  16. The Strib had a poll on the new GM: Internal, or outside the org. 97% voted outside and 3% internal. I think it was Mackey and Judd I heard it on. It was something like over 1600 to 50. They joked that Antony and his friends and family voted along with Twins coaches. I'd say the 97% are likely tickets buyers and the Pohlads should listen to them.
  17. The players could care less about the draft pick. They want to win, as I want them to. Young guys getting experience is a great thing. But I don't see us catching the pale hose.
  18. He has been playing good defense. I'm surprised at some of the digs and dives he makes. Still painful to see the first pitch strike down the middle though.
  19. monetary repercussions. Now there's something that's never entered my mind!
  20. I got canned once after I'd given my 2 week notice. Bartending, and all I did was doink some chick in the basement, what the he........?
  21. I've read enough today that my eyes are sore. But just for the record, I want Molitor back next year. If that statement hurt your eyes, join the crowd.
  22. Interesting tid bits in Phil Mackey's tweet rant: I can't say I'm surprised that they allowed TR to craft his exit plan after being loyal to the organization for so long. I AM surprised that he chose it to be a firing. That doesn't surprised me one bit, as I stated earlier.
  23. Antony's phone is ringing off the hook!
