  1. Personally I'm in wait and see mode. I could see a republican controlled Congress and President passing tax cuts and smart public spending bills. I could also see them starting another dumb war abroad that pays zero percent return on the investment. That is sort of the problem with the party today.
  2. Long term t-bill yields are in the twos. After inflation its basically free money. On a long-term basis I hope we pay down the debt but if there were ever a time to cut taxes and finance projects with debt, now is the time to do it. Its a lucky break for Trump but there are worse ways to spend money than public works, IMO, if that is indeed what he ends up doing.
  3. ON a P/E basis, Russian stocks are 80% discounted relative to American stocks. I'm looking at Yandex, and Russian banks. If Trump is buddy buddy with Putin, we could see movement on Russian sanctions.
  4. I'm sure you're right. I don't know the strengths of the Dodgers system as well as the weaknesses of the White Sox MLB team so I can't suggest specifics.
  5. A shortstop? An outfielder? Maybe Puig? CHI has holes all over.
  6. I'm suggesting that I was expecting to find civil political discourse in this thread but instead I found shocking racism- from you. That was mfw. But I like your suggestion too, thanks! It could work either way really.
  7. The thing about Urias specifically is he is so young the Dodgers could let the Whities figure out if he's an ace or not and then lock him up when he hits FA at age 25 or whatever, and in the meantime get 3 years of a proven #1 to pair with Kershaw. Assuming the Whities didn't lock him up of course but he is represented by Boras.
  8. I'm that annoying guy who hasn't owned a TV in years. But sports are still best live IMO, I usually watch NFL on TVs at other people's houses and MLB via mlb.tv. You? Speaking of which, my netflix queue probably has 50+ hours of programming in it, and its growing. I have more TV than I'll ever watch in there and its $10.99 / month. ESPN can't hold a candle to that value IMO.

  10. Prime at $100/year is good value IMO. I only watch a movie now and then but the free 2 day shipping on everything is nice. And if you still have an active .edu email address you can get in for $50. Also, smile.amazon.com throws a few coin at charity for no extra cost.
  11. How much is cord cutting and how much is declining interest in sports generally? Either way, doesn't look good for ESPN/Disney.
  12. Some talkers from the west side fish wrap: http://www.startribune.com/new-twins-execs-happy-to-keep-paul-molitor-at-the-helm/400348931/ http://www.startribune.com/twins-new-leaders-intend-to-pursue-experience-for-clubhouse/400417531/ Twins' new leaders intend to pursue experienced players for clubhouse “It’s a tall task to ask the manager to do that job and also motivate every single player in the clubhouse,” Levine said of the need for players who understand the need for a positive atmosphere. “If you have some clubhouse ambassadors who are veteran leaders, you’re a step up on most teams.” Falvey joined the Twins from Cleveland, where Mike Napoli and Rajai Davis (and later in the year, Coco Crisp) set the tone, while Levine comes from the Rangers, who have placed an emphasis on leadership for several years. Both testified to the need for such players on Monday, saying that while young athleticism is the most important factor in winning, employing a player or two to set an example can be important. “Those guys helped transform the franchise” in Texas, Levine said. The Rangers reached the World Series in 2010 and 2011, and “the energy of our team was the young group of players who were in their prime, exceptionally talented. And we always married them with the right veterans who could get the most out of those players.” Texas had more than most, Levine said, “and some of them were really extraordinary. Michael Young was where it started, but Colby Lewis was exceptional, Adrian Beltre was exceptional. Darren Oliver, Joe Nathan — we had leaders up and down the lineup and pitching staff.” You would have to think, if veteran leadership is a priority, that reduces the chance (or inflates the price) of a Dozier trade.
  13. This election:
  14. FG version seems to have the Twins in the mid-70s http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/instagraphs/come-look-at-2017-projections-already/ Why the difference?
  15. I'm with you, except in Plouffe's case the injuries were weird recurring intercostal / obliques, and he sustained them doing normal baseball activities like swinging the bat. You have to assume he'll be refreshed after an entire winter off but if/when they hit again, I hope they have a competent plan B.
  16. Oh I thought you were describing some raw egg misture in lieu of mayo.
  17. Jeez I thought I liked eggs. 8 raw yokes? Am I counting that right? I'm with you on a little dill. Chives are good too. Also a dab of mustard. And a little salt (of course).
  18. I think I'm at the age where I'm starting to turn into my parents. I used to boil my eggs all frenchy and underdone but lately I've been letting them cook longer like my mom used to make em. I like em that way more. So good. http://img.wonderhowto.com/img/38/08/63533546192501/0/make-amazing-hard-boiled-eggs-are-easy-peel.w1456.jpg
  19. LOL what a list. "Breakfast sandwich" gets no.2 but egg salad is a thumbs down?
  20. Excatly. People object to the term "career politician" but when you do something for 2-4 years and it demands most of your attention and is the primary source of income, that is your de facto career.
  21. If Mitch Moreland, Justin Morneau, Matt Joyce, and Adam Lind find jobs this winter then Mauer isn't a sunk cost. Is that fair to say?
  22. I'll check out the Crown fore sure. I don't have huge hopes just because it looks like it could be really subdued. But I got Season 3 of The Fall to watch first. Too many shows! Just wrapped up Narcos. That show's awesome. Wagner Moura is fantastic and all his movies on Netflix are awesome too. Also watched Chef and Swingers on Netflix. Both starring Jon Favreau and both great.
  23. One of the beat writers asked Molitor about playing the veterans instead of the kids in Sept and his response was "we don't' know who's going to be back next year."
  24. Molitor's September lineups were the final kidney punches of last season. Kurt Suzuki started 3 times at DH and James Beresford 4 times at 1B.
  25. My thinking is that given the business (writing law), lawyers are generally strong candidates for the job, and pay should be commensurate with that industry to make the job more attractive to good ones.
