  1. Would May be 50% better than Phil Hughes in relief? Seems like the comparison to Fien misses the mark. Someone was going to get demoted. In hindsight, probably should have been Hughes, no?
  2. I think it would be foolish to keep May in the pen. He has the makings of a 200 IP/year workhorse IMO.
  3. Fun? There was a recent series (CLE?) where Gladden was out and Attebury subbed. It was higher brow definitely but Gladden's more fun IMO. Personal preference I guess.
  4. Ironically I think that's Bert's favorite stat too. He really goes out of his way to emphasize it sometimes.
  5. I get what you mean but if Dick says "90% of fielders catch that ball" it might sound like he's just ripping the guy. It kinda begs an explanation. Which would get back to the whole thing about advanced stats being kinda cumbersome. Just from a language standpoint, "error" seems about as clear and concise as you can get. But I definitely could get behind more statcast stuff, with the graphics showing batted ball data and routes, velocity, etc. That is all delivered elegantly and its awesome info.
  6. The thing about the word "error" is it doubles for "mistake" which is really all that needs to be said when describing the defense on those plays. I don't really need a dissertation from Dickbert on how 97% of shortstops handle a ball hit to that vector and misplaying those balls result on average in a negative run value of x-fraction of a run? Just call it an error and move on.
  7. I love off days.
  8. I agree but it wouldn't hurt to add an "advanced" stat like BABIP or something onto a graphic when its notable. Eg. Danny Santana in 2014. The problem is whenever a new stat is displayed the programmer has the announcer go into a long winded explanation which is just boring. If it were up to me, a few extra stats could be added where notable and just let the viewers who get it, get it, and let everyone else google it if they're interested and then let the announcers call the game as usual.
  9. Pre-draft favorites change every year. Turner was always a "speed" and "gap power" guy which is a low ceiling for #5 IMO and coupled with a leg injury I was glad the Twins passed on him. You have to draft for BPA, not need, esp. at 5. It is interesting to look back though. 2014 was thought to be a strong HS pitching class but the early returns suggest that the college arms (Nola, Freeland, Newcomb) and college bats (Schwarber, Zimmer, Conforto, Gillaspie) were stronger. Aiken, Kolek, and Touki have basically been busts so far while Holmes is looking like the only real HS arm to improve his stock unless I'm missing someone. FWIW I would have taken Kolek, Touki, Holmes, Freeland in that order.
  10. PLOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUFE!
  11. Oi. May's 3rd day in a row, no rest.
  12. Now I just want to hear Dan Gladden call a hockey game. With those names. Just last week he kept calling Didi Gregorious "D-day" Gregorious. That's not even hard!
  13. Yesterday Gary Thorne called Buxton "Burton." Today he called him Escobar. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he doesn't subscribe to BA prospect rankings that closely.
  14. What the heck did Molitor say to Pelfrey?
  15. Did you all rip off Skippy Handelman's act between games?
  16. Gotta love that mid-PA pine tar app by Escobar. He's definitely one of those guys who has a clear plan at the dish.
  17. Thorne: "Pelfrey is without a doubt the slowest pitcher the Orioles have faced." "Pelfrey can luuuulll you to sleep." "[hp umpire] Chris Conroy sways back and forth.. just to keep the blood flowing."
  18. Gary Thorne is just ripping Pelfrey and his tempo right now.
  19. First pitch: Herrmann puts down 2, Pelfrey shakes to FB Second pitch. Herrman puts down 4, Pelfrey shakes to FB. Hammered to right. Pelfrey FB% now above 90%. He should listen to Herrmann IMO.
  20. Twins 6-0hhhhh against the Orioles!
  21. What if there were an infinite number of RBs, an infinite number of LPads and an infinite amount of time?
