  1. Fingers crossed that Nolasco pushes himself onto the roster. Santana could fill the backup Inf and PR roll himself. I think you gotta load up on BP arms. edit: Santana could also play OF.
  2. Aaaand we're tied at 42 games with Bob Allison.
  3. Yeah Mauer broke up Kluber's no hit bid back in August IIRC. edit: in the 9th.
  4. For starters you could probably axe the DEA. Stop putting people through the system, release anyone left in federal prison who is there on minor drug offenses. Beyond that I'm not sure, its a tough nut. Perhaps efforts to address addiction would be helpful although I would probably leave that to states personally.
  5. Call it buzzed or altered then. The point is, that's the only "merit" to smoking marijuana for 99% of people.
  6. Saying "parent better" to these problems isn't helpful. If everyone parented properly we wouldn't need criminal laws of any kind. The reality is that we a lot of parents - the point of our entire culture really, saying "do as I say not as I do" with respect to alcohol. Does legalizing weed lead us down that same road? And if you're not wasted after smoking pot then you're not doing it right.
  7. There are no merits, for most people, outside of getting wasted. I don't think anyone knows how good or bad the cure would be. I don't think most people have given it any thought. What if Snoop Dogg shows up on Sunday afternoon in your living room advertising some smokeless cherry flavored product while your kids and you are watching Serena Williams lose her next grand slam? Why would a company spend millions on r&d and advertising if all the people who would use pot are already using it? How might recreational use patterns change a generation or two after legalization? Nobody seems to be asking these questions.
  8. Welp we've destroyed the strawman who said pot was worse than alcohol. Can we move on to discussing weed on its own merits now?
  9. Walker was polling like 1/2 a percent. I love how he said he was "leading" by dropping out. What a douche.
  10. I said it was more insidious as in the side effects aren't as obvious with alcohol or tobacco. Its not a completely benign thing as some people seem to think. The culture around alcohol in north America is reason to pause before legalizing other drugs. As soon as corporate money, marketing and the rest of it get into the game we are going down a road we might regret. Decriminalize, absolutely. Legalize, I'm not so sure.
  11. At a minimum, I think it causes people to lose focus and motivation. I had friends in college, and myself, who changed majors or dropped out due to missing class or falling behind in studies. All of us daily pot users. I'd also argue it causes anxiety and depression for a lot of people. But these are harder things to prove than the direct physiological impact of alcohol on your liver, for example, so a lot of people are skeptical. Pot's more insidious.
  12. Step one should be decriminalization. The economic and social costs are undeniable but I'm too familiar with the negative side effects of pot to get on board with full blown federal legalization. Give states a generation or so to handle decriminalization how they want and then take a federal step if necessary. I suspect the results of that would prove that a middle ground is best.
  13. (SQUEELING FEEDBACK) hELLO? ZZZZZZZZZZZ (BANG BANG BANG BANG) HHHHHHRAAAAAAT-T-T-T-T-T-T-T hELLO?
  14. Reason # 410 to extend Sano: He is seeing the highest average velocity fastballs of any hitter in the game, from pitchers who are better than average, and crushing them. http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/just-a-bit-outside/story/miguel-sano-minnesota-twins-case-for-designated-hitter-to-win-rookie-of-the-year-091815
  15. I love Hunter, he's my favorite player ever. But sometimes you have to take your winnings and leave the table.
  16. There's a lot to like, I'm probably most impressed by how tough he bats against lefties.
  17. In the last debate Trump made everyone on the stage look weak. Bush and Paul especially. He has absolutely no substance and lies through his teeth but somehow wins almost every exchange. The Repubs need to find someone who doesn't look like such a pansy against him. Fiorina was the only one who "won" an exchange when she called him out for his 4 bankruptcies.
  18. Anyone know why Meyer isn't in Minnesota? Seth?
  19. Signing Jeff Samardzija (Shark) this winter would add needed fishing power to the rotation as well.
  20. That's exactly why a correction seems possible, if not likely. In the same way he regressed after 2009 which were all career highs. I doubt he's a 135+ OPS batter anymore but something in the 115 OPS+ range seems reasonable as a new mean. That's just my gut feeling about it. I can't believe he's fallen all the way to a league average batter from here on out. He's too talented IMO.
  21. I guess so, I just have to laugh at the timing. His last couple seasons have disappointed, I agree. He is not a traditional corner bat, but he never was. His 2009 was an aberration, clearly. He has since regressed into the player he always was and then some. I would not be surprised if the pendulum swung back the other way in 2016-2017. His track record is too long and consistent and he's not that old.
  22. Since Sano joined the team on Jul 2, Mauer has been batting right in front of him. There are 4 games Mauer hasn't reached base at least once. We all wish Mauer had 30 HR power but absent that, getting on in front of the big man is probably the next best thing he could be doing. And he's been doing just that.
  23. You are aware he has a 37-game on base streak going, the longest streak for a Twin since Bob Allison's 42 game streak in 1961.
  24. Its ironic because the Republicans are biblical about the Constitution but when the courts exercise judicial review they moan about activist judges. Their base is the problem. Look at the 2012 party platform and you will find the same circle jerking about American exceptionalism, gay marriage, voter ID, immigration - all the instant losers for anyone within shouting distance of the middle. That platform is written at the RNC by the delegates elected at party caucuses and primaries. Its a grassroots process.
